Title: Who Will Jump Out As The New: "Kings of Jambands"
Post by: leith on May 26, 2004, 09:37:29 pm
GSW was one of those bands from back east that some of my friends got into instead of Phish. They were around when GD was in full touring force and never got a real big following out West, even after JG died. I had Red for about a month and tired of it. I did not think they were all that in comparison to other bands coming out @ the time. As the years have gone by my opinion of GSW has grown considerably though I still consider them one of those bands that are cool to listen to but do not offer anything drastically different from other Improv bands.

ARU on the other hand totally SMOKES!
That is a band I was bummed to see fold it in. Glad to hear they be jammin\' sum more.

Holy cow, the GSW fans just keep coming.  Anyone else?  Anyone want to start a GSW cover band called $1.99 Romances?

Wow Wolfy,

You nailed it! My favorite band went from Phish>GSW>Breakfast. GSW, in my opininion, was the most incredibly talented, tasteful band ever (prior to PB of course!) They were simply amazing live, and had elements of so many good things in their music. I only saw them 3 times including their final at Wetlands, and kick myself for not going to more. But then I thought they would always be around.

ARU kicks butt too!

Wow, look at the GSW fans coming out of the woodworks!  I hope one of them reads this!  They\'re up there on my "bands I wish I had gotten to see" list.  I wouldn\'t say that they\'re passing Coltrane, Miles Davis, or Led Zeppelin, but they\'re in the top 10 and #1 for jambands.  They had all the talent, songs, and the cult following to make it.  They didn\'t have the management though.  Let\'s start a GSW fan club and see if we can bring them back!

That\'s pretty cool to hear a British perspective on the whole matter.....

And I disagree that this will not impact this industry of ours.   I feel that a lot of music fans that USED TO devote 95 percent of their time and money on phish (yes even in the limted touring of 2003-2004) will be now ready to hear something new.

It\'s what I\'ve been wanting for a while now...

hehe. When jordan heard the news yesterday, the first thing he said was "so how long before jambands has a \'who will be the next band to break through\' list?"

:P

Let\'s not hope it\'s too huge that I can\'t get to hook up with the crew when I finally get to Staven for a show... (looks wistfully up to the heavens, praying for a miracle!!)

We all want the breakfast to be big, but I think moe. might well get there - I also expect the biscuits to really break it, maybe even internationally.

moe. are coming here supporting Little Feat in July, but are also headlining "An Evening With moe." in London, which I am 90% sure of getting to. Just hoper they don\'t bomb like sci did on this last tour. Union Chapel last year was packed, but they had to move the Astoria gig to the Mean Fiddler as they\'d not sold enough tix. However, a summer show ensures lots of Americans, so we can only hope for a good show.

wolfy nailed it. Phish has not played much lately and tix have been hard to come by. Taking them out of the touring scene does not affect everyone that much. All of the recording collectors now get to put a bookend on their collection.

I think God Street Wine and Aquarium Rescue Unit are gonna come out of the blue to make HUGE comebacks.  ;)  If it weren\'t for Phish, one of these two bands would have been that band, probably GSW, oh my god were they good.  If you look at it, Phish has hardly played in five years.  Other bands will grow at the rate they are going to grow, nobody\'s going to get huge just because Phish quit.

Ahhh Marcial, I would expect nothing less than that.

Awesome subject actually... But I think your choices are a bit "off".

I think maybe the whole scene will change a bit, and maybe people will start to get back to the basics of going out locally and seeing some smaller acts.

I could see moe. taking some big strides right now...
