? Terence Winter, who won for writing for The Sopranos, said the winning episode was of Adriana\'s killing. He said it was more difficult to write her death than other violent scenes: "The death happens off camera. ... I didn\'t want to see it. I didn\'t need the image in my head of an actress and a person and a character that I\'d come to know and love all these years." On theories she isn\'t really dead: "I\'ve heard that, too, but she\'s dead."

However long it takes, as long as it\'s worth it. I felt it was more than worth it this season.
I think The Wire and Deadwood are both quality shows and Carnivale is interesting, but managed to go the entire first season without revealing key details about the show\'s premise and plot, which I found frustrating. I\'ll watch the upcoming seasons of all these shows.

Title: \'Sopranos\' Won\'t Be Back Before \'06
Post by: davepeck on July 26, 2004, 07:41:13 am
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) "The Sopranos" is up for 20 Emmy Awards this year, but it looks like it won\'t be in the competition at all in 2005.
HBO chairman Chris Albrecht told reporters at the TV Critics Association press tour Thursday (July 22) that the mob drama\'s earliest likely return date is the first quarter of 2006. On the plus side, it\'s possible that creator David Chase will deliver more than the previously announced 10 episodes for the show\'s final season.
Fans of the show are, by now, used to long delays between new seasons of "The Sopranos." They waited 16 months between the show\'s third and fourth seasons -- a delay that kept the series out of Emmy contention in 2002 -- and 15 months between the fourth and fifth.
The gap between season five, which ended in June, and season six will probably be between 18 and 21 months. "It\'s like the Harry Potter book," Albrecht says. "You\'ll wait for the sequel and be very happy to get it."
Albrecht also says that there\'s "an inside chance" Chase will come through with more than 10 episodes for the final season. "We\'ve talked to him about it. He hasn\'t said no," Albrecht says. "And with David, that\'s always a very good sign."
In the meantime, several other HBO dramas will fill the gap. "The Wire" is set to open its third season in December, while both "Carnivale" and "Deadwood" are expected back in the first half of 2005.

Landed 20 of HBO\'s 124 Emmy nominations
The key ones for a Drama Series:
Outstanding Cast
Outstanding Directing: "Irregular Around The Margins" Allen Coulter; "Long Term Parking" Tim Van Patten
Lead Actor: James Gandolfini
Lead Actress: Edie Falco
Supporting Actor: Michael Imperioli, Steve Buscemi
Supporting Actress: Drea de Matteo
Outstanding Drama Series: against CSI, 24, Joan of Arcadia, West Wing. The Sopranos has never won this award.
Outstanding Writing: "Where\'s Johnny?" Michael Caleo; "Unidentified Black Males" Matthew Weiner; "Long Term Parking" Terence Winter; "Irregular Around the Margins" Robin Green and Mitchell Burgess
It should also be noted that Deadwood, another stellar HBO program, garnered 11 nominations, and Six Feet Under, one of television\'s finest, did not receive any because it aired only one episode, the finale of Season 3, during the period of elgibilty.
Pitch
Personally, I thought Season 5 of The Sopranos was very strong with a quality finale. Overall, I consider it better than Season\'s 3 and 4.

Friends and family gather at the Sopranos\' for a not-so-surprise 75th birthday party for Carmela\'s father, Hugh. Meanwhile, Johnny Sack shows off his new wheels, Phil Leotardo pulls into ****\'s old place for some auto repairs, and Tony B. considers accepting a familiar job on the side.

good ep. not great, but good/very good.. finally starting to get back on track with continuing storylines, rather than start new ones.. starting to find out a lot about Tony B... very funny episode as well.. junior had some great lines, as always... and meadow =.

not a bad standalone episode, but i dunno.. call me crazy, but there are exactly 16 episodes left in the series. why are we devoting full episodes to indroducing new characters week after week??
All of the established storylines are totally stagnant and have been for weeks. Instead of introducing two new characters who are irrelevant and will be forgotten about next week, further the existing plots. Six episodes left until another year-and-whatever hiatus, and little of importance has happened this season. Oh wait, a bear walked by the pool. Great.
i\'m just getting tired of coming up with excuses for every episode. we get a great episode, then we get 3 straight weeks of ****.. that\'s becoming way too normal with this show..

I like how the principal said, "It\'s not like Tony is going to break my legs or anything." Right.
And for the record, I thought this was a very good episode. Splitting up Tony and Carmela was the shot in the arm this show needed after an average Season Four and I thought it paid off big-time this week. The show is going places no mafia-related fictional drama has ever gone with the seperation. They\'re breaking ground, much like they\'ve already done with Tony\'s visits to Melfi. I thought this week\'s episode was the funniest of the season, in addition to the Carmela drama, which I thought was great work. To me, season Five is almost already better than last season.

With her son\'s future at stake, Carmela puts in some extra time with his college advisor, Robert Wegler. Meanwhile, Tony Blundetto realizes it\'s hard doing business with strangers, and AJ concludes there\'s no place like home.
definitely a step down from the previous few eps. not sure i liked Tony B. peaking and hitting rock bottom all in one episode, especially after working so hard to get his license. the whole carm/bob thing peaked and fell as well (and got WAY too much air-time, imo)..
the previews for next week look promising, but they\'re never accurate, so we\'ll see. not a big fan of this ep, though.

I thought the juxtoposition of Tony saying that he would "never" do anything sexual with Adrianna because she is going to be part of the family. And he was so so so adamant. However, I feel that if he would have scored some blow with her instead of running off the road, they would have **** like rabbits all night (even though Adrianna said she was going to clean). So Tony in a sense was probably lucky because if something would have happened he would never have been able to deny the whole situation the way he did....

bobby: ROADIES??? rotfl
the landscaping scenes were great, and the feud between paulie and feech is hot. feech is a tremendous character.. paulie trying to put the lawnmower in the trunk was also hilarious..
"The guy jumped out of a tree with a chainsaw! I have a right to defend myself."
hey pitchie, "Lay off the Snapple!" :D
the phone book scene with loraine was also great... a little info on her:

Saucy Patti D\'Arbanville, now on NBC\'s Third Watch, has a **** scene in a coming episode. She\'s 52....
....D\'Arbanville auditioned nearly six years ago to play Carmela Soprano, but lost the competition to Edie Falco, who has since won three Emmys. The newly minted guest star says, "I\'ve been wanting to do this for a long time. And I like the fact that I get to play nobody\'s bimbo. I get to be one of the boys."
overall, this was really a fantastic episode. best in a long time. it had all the elements that made me fall in love with this show in the first place - the action, the emotion, the drama, and the comedy.. the show is back, and i\'m excited!

Funny, I don\'t remember Meadow being in the episode at all? WHen the heck was that? It would be real juicy if the fish n game people are feds AND Mrs. S starts messing around with one of them! Then Tony really pisses her off and she starts ratting him out and the season finale is just him and her on a boat (eerily reminiscient of the season 2 finale w/ Big ****) and he has to decide what to do with her. Oh, juicy! I should be writing the scripts!

fair episode. i\'ll cut it some slack seeing as the season premiers usually aren\'t very hard-hitting.
i find the lack of meadow disturbing already. aj\'s horrific drumming gets more screen time than meadow?? come on..
i do like the way aj is developing though. he\'s showing that he\'s really bitter towards mom & dad about the seperation.. not sure where that will go, but it\'s good development nonetheless. and seeing him cave at the sight of the bear was amusing.. \'MOMMY!!!\'
definitely not melfi\'s ass, but hey, she can dream, right? it\'ll be interesting to see if she can keep her cool with tony, or if she\'ll let herself go..
interesting to have paulie and chris talking about pine barrens, even though it\'s been confirmed that that storyline was over and not coming back.. hmm..
did janice and bobby get married?? looks that way..
are the fish & game guys feds? could be..
looking forward to next week. previews look strong, though last season proved that the previews can be very misleading... but is this season\'s episode 2 is half as good as last season\'s, look out!

The bear thing is stupid, and the Paulie/Christopher tension thing was also kinda corny.
