Food for thought: Will the chances of getting laid at Rock n\' Roll Resort Fesetival be higher than an "average" festival?
beds would make me say yes, limited atendees would make me say no...
depends on your standards too, gnarly wook chicks are an easy bug riddled lay...
I\'m going to say no because the whole resort/hotel thing definitely lends itself to "couples retreat" much like Jamcruise does. While the presence of beds and BYOB does increase your likelihood-of-getting-laid-per-available-girl, you have to consider that the available-girls-per-capita is going to be significantly lower than it would be at a lower maintenance event. I think your overall chances are either a wash or slightly lower than at your "average" festival. The optimal strategy is probably to play aggressively early on while the limited options are still available.
-
Starting to appear harder to say no!!

The Rock n Roll Resort will take place at the Hudson Valley Resort & Spa in Kerhonkson, NY on April 1-3. (Granola Funk Express), The Breakfast, Break Science, Caravan of Thieves, Sam Kininger Band and Kung Fu. Beyond this however, there will special events each evening, starting with the Scott Murawski Super Jam Spectacular on Friday, followed by Deep Banana Blackoutʼs Funk Mob Family Reunion on Saturday and finally The Royal Family Masquerade Ball on Sunday. camping out with a shitload of people is half the fun :)
good investigative reporting
While I agree wholeheartedly, you have to think of this in a different context IMHO. Think of it in the context of something like Jamcruise, and it has more similarities to that than a traditional Music Festival. Not too mention this is in April.
After having chatted with my friend last night briefly about this I think I am def going to go. There are some announcements planned that I think are going to please a lot of people.
The Spa will be open so that will be a nice plus. the BYOB is a very nice touch. I have known one of the people involved for over 10 years. He definitely knows what he is doing, I have personally worked festivals with him, and other business ventures over the years. I think this is going to end up being epic.

I just got a response from the reservations specialist at the resort (I cut & pasted some of your questions...)
Here\'s what she said:
Thanks so much for those questions. There are several great ones in there. As well, i\'m taking these questions and posting them into the Travel Tips / FAQs section. Were you able to find that section on the website earlier?
Please feel free to contribute any more questions that you run into, as I\'d like to keep the FAQs section up to date the best i can.
A few things to keep in mind to pass to your friends is that WE ARE NOT the same promoters as Rock the Resort. I\'ve been coordinating festivals for many years, as well I\'ve worked on every Jam Cruise (one of only 27). I\'m familiar with what\'s going to make this event work and you\'ll never miss another one after you experience your first. THAT I can guarantee! It seems like a pricey ticket, but when was the last time that you were able to rock out to your favorite bands with less than 1,000 people in attendance?
****
Why does this event cost so much compared to your average festival?
The answer is easy, this is NOT your average festival. You have a bed to retire to at the end of the night, you have your own personal shower & toilets, you have room service, maid service, full bar services and you also have all of the other perks that come with any resort. You DO NOT have to pack a tent, setup a tent, sleep on the ground, pack up a tent and most importantly, you don\'t have to deal with rain! From the moment that you drive onto the property, our number 1 goal is to make YOU feel pampered.
Will there be bars on site?
There will be multiple full liquor bars open on site, as well as satellite beer stations.
Can I bring my own alcohol?
YES! One of awesome perks of The Rock n Roll Resort is that it is BYOB if you are 21+! We understand that this isn\'t a cheap ticket, but when you factor in all the savings by bringing in your own alcohol vs paying expensive venue prices you end up saving A LOT more money!
Can I bring my own alcohol everywhere?
You cannot bring your own alcohol into the music venues, but you will be allowed to bring in your own alcohol into the venues after the bars must close, as per NY State law. You can bring your alcohol anywhere else throughout the property at any other time as well.
How many beds per room?
Rooms either have 2 double beds, 2 queens or 1 king. If you add in a third person to your room you will also have a rollaway cot in the room.
If you come in a group of three (3) people, you will have a rollaway cot brought to the room that you purchased.
If you come in a group of four (4) people, it will be assumed that there will be 2 people sleeping in each queen bed.
There will be a maximum of 4 wristbands allowed per room. Rooms with king sized beds will have a maximum of three (3) patrons in them.
What is the difference between ext balcony and a balcony room?
Extended (Ext) rooms are rooms with queen beds, whereas rooms that aren\'t labeled \'Ext\' have double beds.
cheers,
shannon

looks awesome, but again so pricey...
snoe.down is the weekend before too. i got my vip early birds for that for $150 - and am spending 150 - 200 for a huge house.
i think the biggest issue is the way the packages are being communicated...
what are the differences? how many beds per room? what is the difference between ext balcony and a balcony room? only 2 in a room? are they all queen/king or rooms w/ two single beds? all are ~$500 / room for 3 nights? what are dining options? bars?
on its face that $500 isn\'t bad for a room for 3 nights, but if i were booking a hotel, i would have 4 friends (me+3) in it. that makes $150 ticket + $125 hotel each... $275 for music & lodging isnt bad.
the $400 price point before food, beverage, party favors, etc is too much for a "local" weekend. in retail, i would put it that the price point is wrong.
-
i dont know about you guys, but I\'d pay ANY amount of money to go to a festival where Granola Funk Railroad are playing. I\'m in VIP. Everyone can crash in my room!
-
can we get this conversation back to soft drinks please. Jeez, focus people.
-
Like, I\'m probably down if its low 200s
or free, ideally.
-
A little pricey. 300 - 400 per person w/o food
I know a person involved in this so maybe I can work it or get a friend discount.
-
oh 10% off aint that much cheaper... this is looking like a maybe.
-
this thread took an awesome left turn...

I gave up bringing "work" to festivals a long time ago. You spend too much time worrying about making money and not enough relaxing and enjoying the music.

LIIIIIIIIIIIIIKE
I will try to find a miracle, a few jobs, whatever. Would love to hit up a resort spa for a few days. But, it\'s probably gonna be a sooooooary chip. Best Wishes! <3 good vibes to L Boogs
-
the food situation seems to still be a mystery also
thats what i am thinking. 1300 with meals included. like what kind of meals?
i need more than a muffin in the morning to sustain me for an entire weekend.
It just seems expensive even with a 10% group rate discount.
Thats only like $70 bucks off a room.
Still a great idea though.
-
i just think its a lot of money to pay to see a festival where Granola Funk Express is one of the bigger names on the lineup. I saw them at the Living Room a long while back and it was the first and only show i\'ve ever walked out of because it was so horrendous.
-

In all actuality, it is a lot of money, but the place looks nice and it is for 4 days/3 nights, so it really is not so bad. This is going to be heddie!

I contacted someone to find out some info about the group rate - here is the response:
"We\'re still trying to work out the specifics, but it\'s looks like we\'ll be offering 10% discount off if you plan on reserving 10 or more rooms, including all but the suites."

Wow. I want to go so bad but the costs:jawdrop:
-
yeah, ouch for sure on the cost. but i think the same thing when i see how much jamcruise and all those destination festivals in the carribean cost, yet people go. thing is, those festivals are in the friggin carribean, not upstate new york. fingers crossed this goes well....
-
thanks gluft... unfortunately, their site doesn\'t have any bands listed...
but at those prices, i don\'t think that\'ll be our big outing this spring...

i wouldnt quite call this a disaster...:)
i just said it has the possibility of being a disaster. i know some people have the money to throw around, but a couple has to spend $720 just to stay at a festival in upstate new york. i can buy tix to moe.down, camp bisco and let it roll for less than RNR Resort. I just wouldn\'t be surprised to see this burn a giant hole in the promoters pocket.
-
I was about to consider this.....but then discovered the actual info. Prices do seem a lil steep.
$800 for a weekend??
"VIP" package for couples, which includes meals, is $1300.
I am in the middle of booking an all-inclusive vacay to mexico that is that much (with a flight). I think if the prices dropped to about $400-500. It would be more economic for some. And more sensible.
But it does sound like fun for whoever does go. But I can\'t imagine a huge turnout unless they discount those prices.
-
the lineup was listed yesterday, don\'t know why its gone now. all i can remember on it was the breakfast, kung fu, deep banana, and new riders of the purple sage.
-

So the dates are 4/1-3 for this? I am assuming both the Bfast & Fu will be playing either the 2nd & 3rd. Is there a schedule for the line up or is that still TBA since they haven\'t done the second announcement yet?
-
Yo.... wtf is up with these prices????
I didn\'t realize this was the place that had Rock the Resort.
I\'d love to go but this **** in unaffordable. Rich kids have a blast!
..
It\'s kinda like... I could go to this festival... or with the same money go to like 4 other festivals...
-
i hope everything goes well w/ this festival, but it looks like a recipe for disaster. any idea whats the maximum # of tickets to be sold for it is? to me it just seems like a good idea in theory(kinda like communism), but it may not necessarily work out as well as planned. the price of tickets alone might sway some fans from going here when they could hit up two other festivals for the price of RnRResort. Plus the lineup is a bunch of decent bands(as far as the size of their fanbase), but nothing that reaches out and says \'YOU MUST COME TO THIS FESTIVAL.\'
The Breakfast/Kung Fu/DBB/Creek
I disagree.. BUT.. 2nd round of artist additions coming soon!
-
