I\'ve been having a good ol\' time here!!!!
Lot\'s of fun, lot\'s of laughs!!!!
Lot\'s of info on The Breakfast and all they do & all that the fans do.
Sometimes we get really serious here and express deeper feelings within ourselves.
If some of you out there are turned off by all this, I feel that\'s quite a shame.
It\'s a great board on many levels. If there is a problem with people joining .info I suggest it be fixed ASAP!!!!
I would love for a few hundred more people to post their thoughts and feelings on .info.
My feeling is, people are embarrassed to express themselves before others and tend to shy away.

The site is already accessible via blackberry or pda and has had a stripped down version for years (it is auto redirected )

Freddie I donate the space. It doesn\'t cost me anything except hassles and hearing it from my boss from time to time. I work at an ISP and one of the perks is free hosting for stuff on my account. So that is why I have been able to keep this place running all these years. Dave took care of the day to day and I took care of the hosting.

never knew you host this site. thanks! I check it several times a week, because it does contain good info. I think a simple solution would be to add a few mods & admins to lessen the load on the current ones and to help keep track of all the different projects and dates. I\'ll do my part to post whatever info I can.

interesting read. im jealous down here in nj. i dont get much of anything breakfast related lately. we need another donegal show or something. thats for sure.
as much as i love Kung Fu, i still want to be able to support the breakfast as much as possible. and i dont want to see this place go anywhere, either. its a shame pec dont care anymore. ive made tons of friends through this board and will third the motion for gabo as prez.
im trying my best to make whatever shows i can this winter. as long as they are posted ;)
i too am not in on the facebook revolution. though it seems most bands are using that as a tool moreso than their own websites these days which to me is just silly balls. not old balls.

Stublatt...completely correct. It would be a shame if this board ended. It does however need to be revamped and taken care of. BTW - Diana, you\'ve done an awesome job as a one woman operating machine here. Don\'t apologize for anything! ;) Seriously. You don\'t get enough credit. I completely volunteer myself. all i wanted to do was point out.... again(i\'ve spoken with adrian and jordan about this on numerous occasions) that they should put their other gigs up. they don\'t want to or they don\'t care. i\'m wondering why i care about it more than they do. didn\'t mean to start all this. the time adrian took to tell me why he doesn\'t, would have been enough time to put up all his gigs. he obviously doesn\'t want to. (and it\'s NOT cause he doesnt frequent this board) i will continue to use this board to find timmy shows but thats it. i\'m obviously a negative influence. funny though......i feel i\'m correct about this and none of this would have gone any farther if adrian had just said "yeah....you\'re right." if it can go up on facebook, it can go up here. sorry for the negativity. won\'t happen again. you\'re all doing great. keep up the awesome work.

From my marketing perspective I think Stublatt has the right brain cells firing around in his cranium, here.
- PT does have a larger audience, but it\'s also designed like ****, full of complete morons, and 90% of discussion goes down the shitter upon inception of the thread. For this reason, I suspect a good fraction of the people who post here don\'t and won\'t post on PT. I\'m one of these people, anyway. As much as "it sucks here", I actually like it.
- This board is not bad for business. It just isn\'t doing much good for business. That said, this is a fan board::: and giving the fans a board where they can pretty much say whatever, **** and moan if they feel like it, break balls freely, and exchange misinformation about the band and possible upcoming shows is now part of Breakfast Culture.
So, any possible new board, which I am still considering giving a go... will remain a board for the fans by the fans. Except it would welcome in a more diverse audience of fans, attempt to section off the bitching and moaning, and not "work for the band" because of any particular directions... actually I think a new board should be broader than just Breakfast / Kung Fu as I\'ve stated... and this would allow all jazz-rock-fusion fans to simply discover that Breakfast and Kung Fu pretty much dominate this kind of music, if they didn\'t already know that. Also, people here are looking for one-stop-browsing ::: it would make sense to have contributing editors / moderators from all over the USA so we could mutually spread the word about our respective regional favorites. Yes, the calendar would be essential that it be a very good, comprehensive calendar. This would have to be a team effort. You simply can\'t rely on any band to send in their information. Although, if they were *smart*, they would.
- New Users Here: Still a problem. I\'m still waiting for my ghost account to be activated ;)
- FACEBOOK: Yes Facew00k is huge right now. But to assume everyone is using it is a marketing mistake I see more and more people and businesses making. Recognize this as a social trend, one that not everyone is following or going to follow, and it could easily and quickly be replaced by something better. Or there could even be a cultural fall-out, for various reasons.
To market *only* using Facebook, like Kung Fu is pretty much doing right now, is a great way to take a coiling steamer on any kind of respectable brand recognition you might get otherwise, with like, a quality web site, or really robust and self-regulated online community.

yeah i dont know who gets the requests sent to them for newbies at this point... when dave was doing the day to day handlings, i\'m pretty sure he took care of all that. im sure it gets sent to one/some of the other admins, but i don\'t know who. someones been doing it though because we\'ve had some new peeps around here in the past few months...

Yes for this! That was one of the reasons that group was started... I love when a good Breakfast/Fu thread gets goin on the green board. Although its funny to me that many of the people that post on them say things like "yeah I remember those guys back in the day" or "those guys used to shred but they don\'t come around much anymore". This is definitely a place expose, accumulate, cultivate and try to expand the fan base. Granted alot of the people maybe the same... but I think PT has a much wider pool of people to pull from... and then when they want more detailed info, refer them here... and it would "hopefully" expand the community here...You just need a little bit of accelerant to turn a spark into a raging fire!

please shut this board down. its so bad for business its shocking. borderline psychotic, and extremely un productive. people....seriously.....find a new hobby and leave these people alone. especially the band. i cant believe this site is even still up. its the same group of twenty or so people bitching about nonsense that pretty much no one could give two **** about. honestly. you\'ve all ruined this board for any "new fans" thats for sure. no one wants to read this negativity over and over and over again. and to the band.....its a bigger waste of time for you to be reading it, let alone respond to it. you\'re all incredibly talented people with alot on your plates as it is. and i feel you all do a great job with everything that you do. screw this board. pretend it doesnt exist. :)

No need to \'shut this board down\'. Show reviews, setlists, etc are quite entertaining and informative. And yeah, there is gonna always be some negative **** amongst the positive vibes. That\'s life in general, man, and we all have to deal with it, I suppose.
The overall issue within this post is pretty basic: We would all like to go to a site that we could easily see what shows are coming up in the days/weeks/months ahead. Duane is not the only guy that would like a one-stop web site that will give him all of his live music options - preferrably in a nice calendar format (which .info offers) - and see exactly where Adrian, Tim, Chris and Jordan are performing - in all shapes/flavors/sizes (Breakfast, A-Z, K Fu, GTB, and any and all of their other side projects). And from what I\'ve seen amongst the posts on this particular thread, there are quite a few \'superfans\' amongst us who would be willing to help the guys out andpost all of these shows as soon as they\'re booked.
Forget the negativity for a second. Making this work makes total sense for both musicians and supportive fans alike. We all know that Facebook is now the go-to site for most of us - and the boys post a lot of their stuff there - and on their band-specific web sites as well. But most of the Facebook promos work as a post on peoples walls - which doesn\'t stick around long once people get 80 other wall posts from friends during the day. Breakfast.info, on the other hand, does and can bring fans of all the different projects together in one specific location - and if we know that all upcoming shows WILL be posted here - on the available calendars, this site can continue on - and be a major asset in promoting and sharing what we all come here for in the first place - info and blogging.
If one specific person steps up as \'that guy\' - the one that will be responsible for posting all of these shows on the calendars, then each of the musicians e-mails or texts them with their freshly booked shows as soon as it happens. And if it is done consistently by all, then the guys could and should be able to go to the calendars here when they are going to book future shows - to see what dates are available.
Could and should work - Just my 2 sense

i will say that as someone without facebook, its tough to find out about gigs in general without it. however, i realize that 1) i\'m in the minority for not having facebook, and 2) it doesn\'t really matter anyway, since i\'m not in the touring radius anymore anyway.
i am surprised there\'s not a kung fu board, but if its being done via fb, then i suppose that works just as well if not better.

Since the other band members posted I might as well.
The Breakfast is 12 years old. Our balls are older. Our fans older. Are we megastars? no. Are we happy musicians making great music? yes. How have we been able to keep this going? People still like our music, become fans, and come to shows.
I am grateful, I know the band is grateful, and maybe that gets lost on this site a little for it hasn\'t been a smooth ride but when is life ever a smooth ride? it isn\'t. its the tenacity and endurance that is needed to keep consistent and stay alive.
I do my best to keep the site updated and have helpers who do the same. If a gig doesn\'t get posted, somebody post it. Dave Pec (MKDEVO) no longer comes to shows or posts on this site. He is no longer a fan. We have let him down as a fan. He is still our friend, but he takes what we have done personal somehow. I don\'t know why. We still thank him for starting this site though and his support over the years.
Mike Deary - thank you for helping us out with this site! really you and many others have done lots for this band and we appreciate it.
This site will have its positive/negative threads - the main thing is do we want to foster a open minded scene and appreciate all things Breakfast in 2010 and on, or be critical of every move we make and throw a dark cloud on the fanbase?

Not to sound like a total fanboy, but
...absolutely rage! No matter who they\'re playing with or in what no good NoHo venue.
It certainly is nice to have them playing in our local area--and too bad that it\'s not more worth their while to tour farther and wider.
Clearly, these are some seriously talented guys that we are lucky to know and appreciate. They deserve to be playing to larger crowds, but the music business is a strange one indeed.
Thanks for all you do, guys. Keep playing and we\'ll keep coming back for more. I for one am sorry that I\'m not able to get out more often, but I\'m doing the best I can juggling work, family and other responsibilities.

Well, I\'ve been researching forum software and different alternatives.
There are none which are substantially better than vBulletin. However vBulletin is proprietary, paid software, which means I won\'t develop with it. Conversion to phpBB is possible but I would need a backup of the MySQL database. But, I don\'t really care about doing this. I\'d rather make a forum for all fans of jazz/rock/funk Fusion music, so it attracts a lot of different people and brings various communities together. Obviously The Breakfast and Kung Fu would get a lot of focus, and existing admins and moderators here would be welcome to retain their positions. Why not?
So, this means building a new forum into some kind of content management system, which could be based on something like Joomla or Wordpress.
And honestly, after looking at all this, I don\'t really think these CMS systems are all that mature at the moment, and phpBB really doesn\'t have much advantage over vBulletin over being free and having better community support.
There is a new version of vBulletin called the Publishing Suite 4.0 which will give an upgraded version of vBulletin that is tied seamlessly into a content management system, which will give you a nice front "news" page and be able to post articles, and have contributing members post articles as well. Basically you could make a full site with this which people could log into, and then click on "Forums"... this costs $300 though.
So, can I do this stuff, sure. Am I going to invest like $500 and several weeks of time to really set it up professionally right now? No.
I may reserve my domain space, however, and keep a close eye on the evolution of free & open alternatives.
Until then, the best thing for http://www.thebreakfast.info would be to add one or two more people as "Admin", or at least make a few of the more active members "Moderators", so we can share the reponsibility of adding threads to "The Chase" and updating the calendar. vBulletin 3.x doesn\'t have amazing themes, so don\'t expect this site to get a major beautification overhaul the way it\'s currently (and probably will remain) set up.

I could be wrong but other than holding the domain name because he\'s paid for it through said date (i forget what it is), he hasn\'t officially posted since NYE of 2009, I don\'t think he\'s officially been managing the site for a while. I thought it was the other mods/admins that had been chipping in to do alot of the updating... That being said, I\'d love to help out anyway I can.

Biggest problem I see with this message board is that it\'s based on vBulletin and not phpBB. Upgrading vBulletin is expensive. phpBB is free and packed with a lot more features.
I might go ahead and work on a new phpBB forum, see how easy it is to migrate content. And then see if people here like it? If not I\'ll use my newly acquired domain for something else ;)
I am thinking a forum with better integration of The Breakfast, Kung Fu, and other fusion-type music, and bands that a lot of members may be enthusiastic about otherwise, as well as side projects. Hopefully this would gain some fresh fans and foster more diverse discussions.
If my forum proves to be obviously way-better, I\'ll leave it up to whomever if they want to hand over http://www.thebreakfast.info domain to me ... otherwise I\'ll be working off another domain.
edit:: actually, for me to do this, it would have to be much better. Including a Front Page "News" section with a good CMS system, and widget-able Facebook integration. If I find what I\'m looking for in a free and open source GPL package, I\'ll land this sucker on http://www.fusionfans.org :)

Okay everybody take a dixie cup, here, and toss it back.
We\'re going to sit in this old sweat lodge, here, for the next couple of days. Work out our problems, you know. I promise you, by the time you crawl out of this sweat lodge, you\'ll all be different people.
On a more serious note, this site is surely old balls. And that is why it hangs so low and proud.
Also, I don\'t think the band really is responsible for updating this site and its calendar. That responsibility falls on Dave Peck :lol:

Sure, by URL. But in reality this site does have a side projects calendar. Sort of surprises me that Adrian wouldn\'t want us to check out his "money gigs"... I mean, we\'ve got money too. And probably your most enthusiastic fans come out of the Breakfast scene.
Regardless of the URL, here, I think Kung Fu has established itself as serious-as-**** and totally-kick-ass as well, and honestly I\'m putting a little more energy into trying to make it to Kung Fu shows than Breakfast shows in the near future. So my vote goes towards "The Breakfast and all Side Projects". After seeing The Breakfast like a hundred times or so, it occurs to one that there might be good other music out there as well? And maybe even you guys are playing some of it.

I have been hosting this site on behalf of your band/s since 05/10/2004 for FREE.
If you guys cannot be bothered to update this site or find someone who will then perhaps it is time to take this old balls site down.
You guys need to check yourselves. People do stuff for you guys all the time for free. Hosting this site and maintaining it is just one example. Keep burning those bridges and eventually you\'ll be on an island.

And duane is a very loyal fan and I see him at events 8 out of 10 times. He meant no harm by his comments. Also show me one person who doesn\'t complain on this board. =p

you know gregg, you got me thinking that i\'m spending way to much time thinking about this crap and way to much money as well. i always thought this would end up being something bigger and that in some small way i could help with that. time to focus on other things. see y\'all around.
so you thought long and hard about it, but did nothing besides complain, got your balls broken by adrian, and now you\'re taking your ball and going home?
i\'m not trying to be an ****, but you\'re criticizing the band for wanting to play different areas besides toad\'s and sully\'s every two months? thats pretty weak. i don\'t have the privelidge of seeing the breakfast/timmy tour/kung fu/beatles a to z within 20 minutes of my house every week of the year, so i don\'t know what its like to be so overspoiled with it that i get whiny when the band notices that their bringing in bigger and more diverse crowds in different areas then the one i live in.
but i suppose if i didn\'t have to drive over 2 hours to see the breakfast or timmy tour over 150 times and i knew they\'d be playing in my backyard in a couple days, i\'d be pissed if i found out adrian was playing timbales in a michael bolton cover band on a random monday afternoon and he didn\'t have the courtesy to warn me about it.

remember when the only member of the breakfast that posted here was tim and it was only on rare occasion for special purposes, show cancellation, etc.?
so now you\'re gonna complain that the band doesn\'t post info on a show for the 7th day of the week when there are breakfast, kung fu, beatles a to z and tim solo shows posted for the other six?
glad you can handle the 5 dollars to get into the show and reap the benefits of everyone else on here supplying the info on your favorite means of entertainment.

my contribution comes more from showing up and supporting the venues and the musicians. you know, tipping my bartenders and the like. it also comes from dragging people to shows. posting shows isn\'t really one of my strong points. complaining on the other hand is. i do use this site to plan my social AND works calender and it\'s now been pointed out to me that the shows i\'m wanted at ARE posted here. good enough. i just thought that professional musicians wanted people at their gigs. my mistake.

no offense duane, but if i come across a breakfast or breakfast related show that i know about that isn\'t on here, i tend to post it myself. quit being a monday morning quarterback and contribute.

um.......this was directed at dangles also. alright. i\'ll stick to the breakfast (when their not in ma nh or upstate ny where the "heat" is, but i\'m not) kung fu (whenever one of the members doesn\'t have another gig) gtb\'s (now thats laughable) solo tim (since they\'re the only gigs i can find) maybe i should start looking around black rock for stuff to do?

mmm....the words lazy and unmotivated! i make a real good living at music believe it or not.the gigs i do on the side are usauly privite or just shitty bullshit gigs i don\'t wan\'t you at anyway because you\'l just talk **** about it anyway...i use facebook for the other stuff! this site is old balls..not a shot at duane.haha

.....other gigs that are not posted on here. (this is NOT a shot at you dave) i find it down right incredible that working musicians don\'t use a website, deadicated to them and frequented by their actual fans, to promote any and ALL gigs that they are playing. i know, i know....it\'s a lot of work to post on the internet. who\'s got time for that.
