Wonder if the Iron Horse people put a squash on their music room?
this

I remember seeing a kickass one in your basement ;) Thank you!
-
... they must be entirely acoustic - no amps.
:( Oh well - but this still could be done... an acoustic Breakfast show isn\'t all that bad. I remember seeing a kickass one in Ridgefield last yr. The no alcohol thing might be trouble, but there are prolly ways around this too :?: Either way, it\'s still a great idea BD! Thanks :)

we should do a silent breakfast party with Adrian on electric drums
adrian should start using e-drums at every show.
he would just want to use the warm up bands e drums.

sad to hear another record store in noho (especially one the caliber of dynamite) hits the dust. I used to make weekly trips out there while attending umass. I hope Mystery Train is still kicking.

I put flyers up all around that place yesterday for the freakout show. Good thinking asking about the room by the way.

That said, I don\'t know how the **** they plan on a Dubstep/Techno band??
acoustic techno = drum circle?
seriously, i\'m not sure how they\'ll pull that off. maybe a silent disco party?
-
Well, I pretty much got shot down before I even finished cleaning my weapons...
"I\'m afraid the Dynamite space is not available for live band/dance party events any longer. Thorne\'s management is very strict about live music venues, allowing only one or two per month, and they must be entirely acoustic - no amps. There is also a no-alcohol policy which is strictly enforced and we try to end events by 10 pm, so it doesn\'t sound like the space is right for you.
Good luck - I hope you find another place for your party!"

It\'s just the influence of corporate bullshit that\'s taken over America.
There\'s a monopoly on the music scene in Northampton.
If there is a room in Northampton free of this, I would go with it.

i think the iron horse is fine. i dont really understand the hate
in terms of the psysical layout of IH, its a great venue. i guess its just the way the staff treats tapers/people involved with the band....and if i remember they have a very limited beer selection and its expensive.

Hurray for forward thinking and proactive fans!

Okay, so in the basement of Thornes Marketplace, where the old Dynamite Records location used to be, there is now a large open space called the "Dynamite Space".
Concerts are held there from time to time, along with various exhibits and artistic showings.
Anyway, they request a "donation of $10-$15 an hour to use the space"... wtf?!
Here is the link for some info on the Space: http://commonwealthcenter.org/
as you can see it is a rather large room.
I filled out an application basically asking about some details about using the space, if they can provide PA, if we can BYOB, stuff like that. And asking about NYE availability as well.
Either way, we all know Iron Horse sucks. And Northampton area Breakfast/Kung-Fu turnout is certainly not dependent on IHEG\'s weak advertising efforts. This is largely a grassroots / word-of-mouth / word-of-Facebook fanbase, and actually I bet a lot of people would be interested in avoiding the Iron Horse\'s bullshit anyway.
Stay tuned. I said I\'m interested in possibly hosting one or two bands on NYE, depending on what they tell me in their response, and also depending if Breakfast and or Kung Fu is even interested in this, or has other plans. This, I do not know, and haven\'t asked yet. But if all seems good with Dynamite Space, I shall find that out.
peace
Also, if this pans out, according to current tour schedules, this would be my 100th show ;)
Here is their facebook page:

Apparently they are having a Dub and Techno show tomorrow night. I don\'t see why hosting whatever band I want with a reasonably sized fanbase would be a problem at all. Even if BYOB is a no-no, there are tons of bars within a 5 minute walk. Also, flasks are a good invention, I reckon.
I\'d like to see TPalms solo acoustic make it up to Northampton as well, this might be an easy spot with low overhead for such a thing. I can personally handle booking / ticket sales / wristbands / getting cool lights set up / finding a PA if need be, most likely. Well, I have some friends, too :)
I may invite a local jam band with a good following, such as "The Big Sway" or, possibly "The Whipjacks", or both, depending how much time we can fill, and also depending if Bfast and/or Kung Fu even wants to do this.
With such low overhead and $15 tickets, I\'m pretty sure they will be paid more or less the going rate. Sure would be a great thing for Northampton and probably most Breakfast fans who come out here for shows, especially if it means NYE gets booked one way or another.
