Buzz ShareThis In a surprise move, concert promoter Don Law and his partners are seeking to take over Harpers Ferry nightclub. The 340-capacity Harpers would become a so-called feeder club for the Paradise, which is owned by Law and his partners, Joe Dunne and Declan Mehigan. ?We need a club that is a first step, and we think this would work so acts would then grow into the Paradise,?? says Law. (The newly renovated Paradise now has a capacity of 850.) Up next for Law, who is acting apart from his affiliation with Live Nation: a series of meetings with the Allston Civic Association and Boston Licensing Board. If all goes well, says Dunne, the new club ? tentatively dubbed the Brighton Music Hall ? would open in mid-December. As for renaming an Allston club the Brighton Music Hall, Law says: ?I don?t know if it?s Allston or Brighton, but it?s close enough for rock ?n? roll.??

interesting read. I guess the Landlord routinely stomps on puppies?

I like Middle East up or down, and whatever Buquebus was saying sounds heady too.
they played downstairs before around the time real radio came out i think. It also was spring break for a lot of schools around here, which definitely hurt the turnout... this then led to many packed and some sold out shows upstairs... a co bill with the indobox would help fill either downstairs, or ::gasp:: even the newly rennovated Paradise.... I\'m still way down with the magic room gallery on word of mouth alone.... either way I got to get out to a show one of these days...:disco:

I have only been once, but I liked the upstairs at the Mid East. Rock that place out and then move on to the downstairs. Or conquer bigger things. Just keep on playing!
-
magic room is where it\'s at... somehow it isn\'t as known as most, but I have heard nothing but g00dness about it.... definitely got the vib3zzz lol:inky:

There\'s the Magic Room Gallery I think it holds between 300-400

Johnny D\'s is also around 300

North of town there\'s a place the Brew used to play all the time called the Grog, not sure if it may be too small tho, they have a decent sized downstairs

My vote goes for the Middle East. Any place with framed Mark Sandman inspired artwork gets an A+ in my book.

Paradise is too big.
isn\'t there a smaller venue right next to/connected to the paradise? i think i saw u-melt there a couple years ago, so i\'m sure it would be an appropriate size. something tells me it may have closed also...
I saw Timmy do a solo show at the \'paradise lounge\' once. too small for a bfast show.
-
middle east upstairs is perfect for TB...they pack it tight every time and rage hard. No need to look for another venue.

i think they closed that room.
the new Met Cafe in Pawtucket RI is my choice.

Is the Middle East still a venue? I saw you guys once in the upstairs; isn\'t there a downstairs also? the Paradise? Thats about the extent of my Boston venues. Is Bill\'s Bar in Boston? too small?
Middle East is there. Upstairs is still a great option. Best room in town for The Breakfast IMO. Downstairs might work like Sequoia said, but it\'ll take some big promo.
Paradise is too big.
Bill\'s Bar is okay. Prefer the Middle East.
Basically, I just don\'t know what Boston is gonna do without Harper\'s Ferry. The world really needs more venues with mediocre sound, no working lights, half the venue behind the stage, no green room, lousy staff, crumbling walls, and no parking. I think I\'m going to cry.
-
You got it man. I\'ll keep thinking, you guys keep playing!
-
middle east down stairs might work. lots of room to grow. if we play there, we would have to do some strong promo. thanks for your \'ser-ious\' response frolf.

What a sad day *snarf*. Harper\'s Ferry is closing on Halloween. (boo hoo). I think I\'m gonna skip AC to pay my respects to the last night of this great venue. Who\'s with me?
Share your fondest Harper\'s Ferry memories in this thread. I\'ll start:
1. Breakfast gets their van and all gear stolen the day after 9/11
2. Freddie and Nikki throw burritos and get banned fo life in 04
3. Post-Phenway Breakfast show they make everyone stand outside for an hour while the band is playing and the club is empty. Several sober kids are turned away for being drunk.
What a great venue.

Getting to sit down with Robby Krieger after the boys opened up for his band back in \'01... I remember Tim coming off the stage all excited and saying I threw in my best Doors licks...
