whatever dude. you keep seeing lack, i\'ll keep seeing abundance.
No, I\'m being a realist... As long as the current big boys are still around, bands like TB, KF, RAQ need to get out there and bust their ass wherever they can enjoy the large crowds at the festivals they play... Ken had it right, there\'s a lot of splinter groups among this current group of musicians... But if they don\'t get their **** together and start treating this like a business rather than a band having fun, it\'s going to be tough to get ahead... I\'m not saying they can\'t, because the talent is there... Focus and build a plan for success...

you\'re missing my point which is that there are more than enough potential fans out there.
I get the point that there are potential fans, but assuming that they\'ll all get it is the tough part... There aren\'t that many bands that make this type of music that fill up stadiums...

I\'ve said it before: most people don\'t "get" it.
but there are enough people that would "get" it to fill stadiums.
Let\'s not put the cart before the horse...

As Todd Stoops said, Kung Fu may be a great vehicle for
The Breakfast & RAQ to get more exposure.
Evidently these bands mean a lot to the musicians & many of their fans.
Kung Fu may be the attention getting band for everything these musicians do.
A day may come when The Good Time Boys is held at Fenway Park!

I was bored & felt like stirring things up.
Nice thought out responses guys!
Life is a crap shoot on how you do things.
Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.
Along the way you choose what puts the odds in your favor for the win,
& go with it. That too changes along the way. The key word is being fluid.

Excellent thoughts, Chris. Thanks for posting them. I\'m always hesitant to add to the "band should do this" or "the band should do that" threads, but this is a good positive suggestion.
I would offer that live downloads on bt.etree.org and archive.org are a very good way to get people (like me, for one) interested--and those seem to have dried up lately...--but I agree that it doesn\'t get too far without saturating other media.
Especially a band with the talent of The Breakfast. I\'ve said it before: most people don\'t "get" it. This is not your average bar band, and the shows aren\'t the usual wookfest.
I could go on, but I won\'t. As they say, opinions are like ****...
We all know these guys rock, and wish that they can be very successful doing it.
Oh, and I\'m partial to Gladys (which didn\'t make the cut). Then I\'d have to say Mayfly. I\'ve noticed that there are a lot of votes for Sundance, but I think the one from Sully\'s Thanksgiving show is better.

There are hundreds of Breakfast shows for free download.
Live As Is show was previously released as a free download.
How come so many shows were offered for free?
All the free downloads could have generated thousands of dollars for the band if they were sold.
Years & years of shows were offered for free.
Every few years a live show is picked to try & sell. Sales are few, the band goes in debt.
Charge for downloads or mail order CD\'s of recorded shows.
Money could have been made. There is little sense to how things are done.
a factory pressed cd would have sold more at the merch table than a download. it would be nice to have both options to purchase the album.
i dont think its right to hold back live (non-soundboard) tapes so that people are more inclined to buy an inferior product when its eventually released. that is just a way to get more money out of the most loyal fans who have stuck around this long.
part of the problem is the band/management are 10 years behind in utilizing the internet to promote themselves. live audience recordings on archive.org do not help or hurt the band at all. it just something to tide over the **** fans to keep from losing them and give n00bs a way to quickly stream some audio to sample the bands music.
Bands these days need to be constantly posting content on their official web sites, facebook, twitter, and myspace, and others to give fans a reason to keep going to the their websites
twice a week bands should post video blogs, storys from touring and playing gigs, podcasts, an exclusive studio track recorded at a band rehearsal, or even just a video of one band member slapping another in the face with a slice of pizza. anything to keep them in direct contact with the fans on a regular basis. the management cannot do that for bands, they have to do it themselves so it is personal and the fans feel a connection to the band members. if a casual new fan forgets about a band for a month or two and misses the local show they may be lost permamently.
in 2010 people have very short attention spans because of being spoiled by youtube, access to free mp3 albums before they are released in stores, ipods thats hold 97348593798345734958346953456473658345783468576347 songs, on demand television, hulu, netfix, cell phones, etc. Fans will forget about your band the second something else interesting comes along. Its a lot of work but something that every serious band needs to be do unless they dont mind working a day job.
EDIT: and my fav track on Live As Is = Sundance

guitar-Jim
???
new nickname?
lol
-
I\'m with guitar-Jim. Mayfly rocks!
-
i got pretty intimate with this show (obviously) and i think that the mayfly is just stupid good. the jam really hits on some very distinct directions and nails each one with a perfect climax as it returns to the head. i thought it was the perfect mayfly.
that said, all the performances on this record are superb versions each song, making this a very hard question to answer.
-
I\'m partial to Sundance

thanks for replying folks. I thought there would be a lot of posts on this one. :hscratch: guess I know how to write \'em up!
I must agree though, there are moments and jams in each track that are amazing. The decision is not an easy one and I relish the pondering of it.
-
I\'ve tried to answer this myself, but I\'d be more likely to refer to excerpts of musical epic moments within each song.

Hey y\'all,
I couldn\'t start a formal poll, not sure what, if anything, that I am doing wrong.
Anyhoo, the release has been out for a little bit now so I thought maybe folks would like to share what they think is the best track on the new album.
I can\'t start this poll without sharing some thoughts. This is a tough decision because I honestly like all of the tracks. I think I have to go with Tunage. The jam is just pure liquidity and takes me there every time. Sundance was my other top choice, a superlative version which is extra nice in dank sound quality. That also goes for Mayfly. But Tunage I believe steals the show.
What do you think?
