I too used to include a pb/breakfast show with every trade I did with new trader, but only once did I get a positive response. It has reached the point I have almost given up. I think exposure through touring is probably still the best way, but touring is just so damn expensive these days.
the story with the keyboardist is he left the band because he couldn\'t fulfill the touring duties, and they found a new keyboardist, who left the band because he couldn\'t fulfill the touring duties, but went on to other bands where he could fulfill the touring duties, so they went back to original keyboardist(which i\'m happy about), but that doesn\'t change the fact that he still can\'t fulfill the touring duties.

The amount of shows one has seen, or the amount of years having been a fan, doesnt make one fan "bigger" than another in my opinion. All you need is to have a passion for the band and their music. It truly makes me smile knowing that there are kids out there willing to open their minds to the music of the breakfast. You guys are the ones that are going to turn this around.
Some of the biggest fans of the band I know aren\'t even on .info and have probably seen a half dozen shows or less! Strange Creek and the last Iron Horse show melted many a young mind!
Grow up, get over it and let the boys do whatever the **** it is their doing. When their ready to fully commit to this thing again, you\'ll know it, and it won\'t be because you guys tried to have a jerry lewis telethon for them.

I could think of a couple people... then again regional weekend shows are mostly all I can attend anyway so in a selfish way I can\'t really complain as long as the band is having as much fun as I am :)

Ken, something that has always eluded me is what is your profession?? How does one have the time to work, go to as many shows as you do, and make all those crazy dvd\'s as well. My guess is selling children internationally, make a couple phone calls, book a couple flights. 6 or 7 solid transactions and your set for the year.

Reminds me of a young Stevie in terms of enthusiasm and front-row ragin\' it.
True, his ideas have been done before.
Most of the old heads have given up on even really trying to promote the band anymore.
Psychedelic Breakfast actually did start to gain momentum for a while back in the days when a lot of you long-timers had this kind of enthusiasm and positive outlook.
I\'m not innocent in this either.
Nobody wants to bring first timers to a show to have it turn out to be an underattended dooze.
The new argument seems to be "it\'s not our job to make Breakfast successful". Yeah, true.
Fans like Kevin are the future for this band. Actually there\'s a bunch of kids like a half-generation younger than me around here who share this kind of enthusiasm and would probably go to twice as many shows if so many weren\'t at 21+ venues.
There\'s a reason Northampton is one of the best places for the band to play
It would probably be more appropriate to give Kevin, his buddies, and a few other groups of younger fans around here credit where it\'s due.
We\'re lucky there are still people with the positivity and energy to keep our favorite band on stage.

also they\'ve had great sets at moe.down, 10 thousand lakes and camp bisco, but the large festival sets are sparse, and they generally play local lowkey festivals year to year.

Yeah I really do hate horns. Maybe running finger nails down a chalkboard could be an instrument? I don\'t know. Not my dig. Don\'t think I\'m really missing out. I used to listen to Ska when I was like 11 years old. I enjoy Reggae but not Reggae that\'s loaded up with too much horns. I like some classical music but only if it\'s not chock full of horns.
Good luck finding a guitar player who compliments Tim Palmieri as perfectly as Bobby Weir did Mr. Garcia. I\'m a huge Bobby fan though so what can I say.

Im not sure whether to take some of these posts serious or not. There is a lot of dumb **** being said here. Does anybody on this board understand what is happening to their "favorite band"? Adding new musicians wont fix anything, donations are cute, but will have a very minor effect, and my favorite suggestion is playing bigger rooms. Just cause you play a 1000 person room doesn\'t mean 1000 people are gonna show up. You know what happens??? You look like a douche bag when 100 people show up. Im convinced that 90% of the people on this board have their heads so far up their asses they can see their small intestine. Grow up, get over it and let the boys do whatever the **** it is their doing. If they aren\'t there then they are missing out. the people who are there want to be there and enjoy the music. its okay that theres a small fanbase, that just means the shows arent as expensive and I have more room to dance around. I understand that it would be good to spread the music and have more people at shows but the music should be what you go for. I just want The Breakfast to continue what they are doing. As long as they are happy playing then Im happy listening. And look I\'m a pretty recent fan so its catching on some how. the growth of this fanbase may be slow but it is growing.
at 7 new fans a year, we will sell out toads by 2525......if man is still alive of course....

Yep she\'s back and we\'re not fuckin around when it comes to Breakfast these days.
I agree the breakfast need to expand.
They should add another drummer, add a rhythm guitar, percussion. They should get a HOT female vocalist as well perhaps a horn section.
I think with all the defunct jambands in the North East the breakfast should draft a bunch of folks and create a serious Super Group. This super group would draw on existing fanbases, it would generate some press / buzz. It will get folks familiar with their bodies of work interested and perhaps motivated to come out and check out this new organic entity.
Perhaps ska / funk based. Something that will get people shaking their asses.

I feel like getting people there for their first time is the hardest thing. I\'ve brought plenty of friends to thier first experience and a good number of them come back on a quasi-regular basis. It\'s hard to go to something for your first time if you don\'t know what to expect... or even if you think you do because recordings do absolutely NO justice for the energy these guys put out at a show imo. Almost everyone that ever I\'ve brought to see a show or any number of their side projects gets blown away by them. But its the convincing them to go their first time that I find the most difficult... after that it\'s pretty easy.
Not too mention, that I\'ve been around long enough now that I\'ve established some relationships with a number of people that I see regularly at shows. We are pretty much a welcoming bunch of heads (for the most part) and I always make it a point to introduce my friends to the people that I know to make them feel comfortable. Who knows what their success or unsuccessfulness is going to hinge on at this point? They are what they are, they play when they play... I just try to catch them as much as possible, in case there is that day that they may not be around anymore.

Again, nothing against the ladies that already embrace the sausage....uh fest that is....we are truly blessed with their presence......and i have been rarely let down whilest in search of recreation at a breakfast show.........i am just spewing bullshit, but am realizing something as i type.....we know it\'s not the music. there are hot chicks and drugs at shows....so maybe its just us. maybe we all, and i\'m lookin at the entire registered memberbase of .info and beyind, just suck.......that can be the only other conclusion......you, you, you, you, you, and you, and me, we all suck. Especailly Ken Ralfowitz, who takes sucking to a whole other level.......to the suckiest bunch of sucks who ever sucked.

There is a reason why telling people and giving them discs to listen to hasn\'t converted people to fans.
Think about it.
Because when they go to the shows, there is nary a female to be found, let alone not much in the area of "recreation" unless you bring your own....
The headiest females I know are Breakfast fans and their energy and presence is a blessing to the otherwise sweaty sausage-fest. As for "recreation"... well granted there\'s not a shakedown but I\'ve rarely been let down with a little poking around. Besides, plenty of shows especially in CT and Harper\'s Ferry (quick call the undercovers before we let ppl in to the show that\'s already started!) are straight up narc fests. Who really wants to be that guy hookin it up in a crowd where it\'s impossible to blend in? Lucky for me I guess, the music is heady enough that I rarely feel compelled anymore to recreate myself beyond a couple drinks and maybe a phaddy boom batty.
IMO the main reason is that most people are simply into shitty music. Like 2/3 of my friends are going to The New Deal tonight. LOL, you know. Do what you love, right?
Again, nothing against the ladies that already embrace the sausage....uh fest that is....we are truly blessed with their presence......and i have been rarely let down whilest in search of recreation at a breakfast show.........i am just spewing bullshit, but am realizing something as i type.....we know it\'s not the music. there are hot chicks and drugs at shows....so maybe its just us. maybe we all, and i\'m lookin at the entire registered memberbase of .info and beyind, just suck.......that can be the only other conclusion......you, you, you, you, you, and you, and me, we all suck. Especailly Ken Ralfowitz, who takes sucking to a whole other level.......to the suckiest bunch of sucks who ever sucked.

Lighten up Stevie. Kevin\'s not as weathered, jaded, and pessimistic as many of us around here seem to be. If you saw Kevin at a show you\'d see how positive his energy is. Reminds me almost of a young Stevie in terms of enthusiasm and front-row ragin\' it.
True, his ideas have been done before. But most of the old heads have given up on even really trying to promote the band anymore. Psychedelic Breakfast actually did start to gain momentum for a while back in the days when a lot of you long-timers had this kind of enthusiasm and positive outlook. For various reasons, most of us dropped the ball at some point.
I\'m not innocent in this either. We all know the history, some times have been pretty uncertain for the band and discouraging. Nobody wants to bring first timers to a show to have it turn out to be an underattended dooze.
The new argument seems to be "it\'s not our job to make Breakfast successful". Yeah, true. But if you love the music and experience of going to Breakfast shows and you want to share something great with your friends, more power to you!
Fans like Kevin are the future for this band. Actually there\'s a bunch of kids like a half-generation younger than me around here who share this kind of enthusiasm and would probably go to twice as many shows if so many weren\'t at 21+ venues.
A lot of these kids actually are sharing tapes, praising the band on Facebook, and rounding up their friends to go to all the shows they can. There\'s a reason Northampton is one of the best places for the band to play, and why Strange Creek cabin was totally overflow this year and created more local chatter about the band than I\'ve seen in like 5 years.
It would probably be more appropriate to give Kevin, his buddies, and a few other groups of younger fans around here credit where it\'s due. We\'re lucky there are still people with the positivity and energy to keep our favorite band on stage.

Just think about this one. When PB gained most of its long-standing fans, it was at a time when they played a lot of colleges in New England. Those have grown up and either lost interest or have othe obligations that keep them from making many shows. Starting in January \'08, the boys have played 3 shows on a college campus. Why not go back to the well with that plan of action.
I\'m not complaining about where they\'re playing, just offering a suggestion....

This **** aint easy. I have definitely taken a step back this past year in the TB preaching, it gets exhausting when results are almost nil.
I hear you Gordo.....It\'s definitely exhausting, and that is just from a fans perspective. I cant even imagine how the guys in the band haven\'t already gone on widespread killing sprees out of sheer frustration.......Ah well, the fact that The Breakfast still exists as a band, is proof to the intensity and dedication that have as musicians, as well as a steadfast belief in the music of the Breakfast, which is at an all time high as far as sound and style.

PB4Life is just straight n00bin it.. It\'s okay though, at least you\'re optimistic and active, errr at least plan to be. I remember in \'05 spending a bunch of time and money making a few different TB mixes and giving them to a couple hundred different peeps. There was an Epic disc, a Rock disc, and a Funk disc. They went over well early (at least with people I saw more than just the once) but never seemed to have a lasting effect. I couldn\'t get these cats to show up to a $5 show either. Tell them what you think, i know its good. If there not there there square!

This post angers and frustrates me.....not that it exsists, but PB4Life thinks that over the past 11 years, that all of us Breakfast fans never tried to spread the music of the Breakfast. I believe this was one of the first and most widely spread practices used in spreading the gospel of Psychedelic Breakfast. Trust me when I tell you I have friends that have threatened to smack me if I kept talking Breakfast. So PB4Life, I am not trying to discourage you in your attempts to expand my favorite bands fanbase, but lets get real and smarten up. You said it in the last line of your post, use your mind.....

My favorite techniques these days are, 1) kidnapping, 2) promising there will be fields of nitrous and proper headies available on lot, and 3) blackmail / other forms of manipulation.

screw bringing back to the PB brain sticker. i want to know who/where they were printed. the life of those are/were unreal. i just junked my old car last week, it had a fair amount of stickers on the back of it, and after years of neglect and abuse, the brain sticker was the only one that was still in tact as the day it was stuck to the car.

Quit bitchin and moanin... just go rage some shows and get as many people as you can to go.
Looks like a nice schedule coming up in the next month or two to me, especially if they fill in a couple weekends in early October.
Negativity aimed towards other members of the board with retarded opinions is fine. But seriously bitchin\' about a band as epic as The Breakfast and the fact that they are still playing better than fuckin ever after all these years ... well it\'s gettin old.
Either be part of the problem (****, moan, accept defeat, skip shows that are well within your radius) or be part of the solution (offer up some positive energy and rage the **** out of the undoubtedly epic shows coming up).

the breakfast needs to expand and get out there and start playing bigger venues and bigger festivals! they have the potential but they tour at very limited places and could definetly be known better out there then they are now. agreed? posssibly marketing more? i mean i see they are coming out with a new album which is going to melt peoples faces off but who knows about this cd? they need to tour at bigger venues and play there stuff.
