zappa was the lil wayne of his day. some good stuff but not much quality control.

Not sure if you\'re referencing my or Al\'s supposed dislike of Zappa...
I happen to think Zappa is a genius and I\'ve probably made better music in high school on computorz than half of Daft Punks catalog.
Just blown away by the comparison, is all.
A world without Zappa might be a world without Breakfast. A world without Daft Punk = +7 IQ points :P

OMT and ATW are both great dance tunes, and thats about all you can say about \'em. On the record I can understand them coming across as boring/cheesy, Daft Punk records can be a bit repetitive at times, but that is the name of the game in House Music. You should check out their ALIVE 2007 Album though and see what they do to those two tunes, really top notch.

so yea, part of the genius. The same way "Bobby Brown goes down" is part of Zappa\'s genius but when listened to on its own has a tendency to offend some people.

Big picture aside, can you tell me specifically whether "Around the world" and "One More Time" are exceptions to or are part of this genius?

Daft Punk is great. Genius withoutadoubt. I put those two robots up there with Zappa as far as musical prowess/understanding/ability to follow through on musical concepts. I guess its not for everybody, but they definitely have complete control of their sound at all times. STS9 wishes they were Daft Punk, especially with all the Live PA stuff they have been up to. And they are definitely more adventurous and fearless with their live show than shpongle, who are also great don\'t get me wrong, but Daft Punk **** with all of their samples continuously during their sets. And they make it sound so easy that even people with "superior taste for music" don\'t get it! brilliant!
Oh and having a "reliable opinion" does not make sense. you can have "reliable information" about facts, but an opinion is not a fact.

You\'re not alone in your amazement mr zurflu.
I love these guys (Nick and Zuke are two of my favorite robots IRL... as for Igzy lol... gotta admit I\'m a little suprised ;) ) but I missed out on the government robot ear installation experiments. Then again I may be biased from hearing my little brother play One More Time on repeat while gherkin the pickle all night long to MMORPGs or whatever the **** kinds of online games steal all household bandwidth and take weeks to play. I drowned that **** out with some Island Tour back in the day.
Love me some STS9 / Shpongle but Daft Punk is like the Kraft of cheese factories :P

its nice to have robot ears. face to face was/is my favorite, but still got love for One More Time and the likes.
OMT and ATW may be cheesey, but if that cheeseyness is what affords them to travel the world playing to 100,000 people at a time with the most advanced stage/lighting set up out there, then more power to them. why overanalyze a good time?

different strokes for different folks i guess.
I saw them at Lollapalooza and it blew away most everything else i saw that year. \'07. maybe it was just the atmosphere, but 50,000+ people getting down to two robots in a pyramid is pretty fun if you ask me.
