housellama. great post.
no offense, rujah, but this dudes story sounds pretty believable. i bet u could still get your money back if you\'re nice
-
nicely said Jay, you are the man, that\'s bascially how i wanted to explain the situation but couldnt for lack of the amout of words i knew it would take. You guys were awesome and I couldn\'t tell you that enough, I had too much fun and have been thinking about it everyday since:) Jay it\'s Andre, it was good chillin. thanks for the great times and allowing my drunk ass to ramble. Smoking out the cabin while listening to you guys was more than fun. Hope to see you soon in burlington, peaceee.
o yeah i took that pic, booyah

Alright...lemme preface this by saying I\'m NOT one of the organizers, and I say "organizers" instead of "promoters" for a good reason. However, I know each and every organizer personally, and can speak from their point of view pretty assuredly.
The reason why I say "organizers" is because NOT ONCE in Cabinfest\'s 6 years of existance have people EVER made money off the festival, and in most instances, have lost significant amounts of cash putting on music for increasing amounts of (incredible, smart, fun, and interesting) strangers. Free beer and food does not equal anyone making profit, let alone sound expenses, travel costs, etc. The festival/party/show (whatever you want to call it) has gone on for 6 years with no issues, and probably due to a miscommunication and some neighbors with some big-ass fireworks, this was the festival\'s first snafu.
Cabinfest started as a family/friends/music party that got bigger and bigger each year, with this year being the biggest. Most of the organizers, as well as myself, have been seeing the breakfast since 02 or earlier, at places in and around NYC that don\'t even exist anymore, so to have the Breakfast come up and rage meant the world to all of us...it was an absolute dream come true. WBT opened for TB last year at Mercury Lounge, so to reunite two bands with similar ethos was a simply devine connection, and one we were proud of. Trust me, no one was more upset, sad, angry, disapointed, or bummed about the situation than the original cabinfest folks. Especially since we\'d never had a single complaint in 6 years, and that includes Brothers Past, Consider the Source, Timbre Coup the night before Breakfast...all loud bands, let alone WBT for countless hours, and dj\'s well into the night.
We\'ve never needed or wanted more of an "official" permit to play, because everyone involved has always wanted to keep this on a great fence...somewhere between wall to wall music festival, and the best house party ever, annually. So there\'s the answer on that...nobody here is trying to be Superfly, or Bonnaroo, or whatever. Nobody is making money, let alone a career, off this. The breakfast were a great fit, and we had some personal connections to them, and quite frankly, the stoppage of music had nothing to do with what band was playing; but do realize, the organizers were more upset than anyone at the turn of events, cause they all take great pride in riding the aforementioned fence and putting on something different than any other small festival, or large house party, out there. They\'ve done it for years, and including this year\'s first 2 nights and half of Saturday, have imo pulled it off tremendously.
That said, I can speak for them, in that any positive vibes expressed on this thread are appreciated. For the 80 or so minutes the breakfast played, it was euphoric. Like I said, a dream come true. The breakfast had a good time, seemingly, and in talking to them afterwards, in their thousands of shows, it was nothing they hadn\'t seen before. If anything, watching Adrian and Jordan play on the piano while things were being figured out might have made everything worth it. And considering how much Adrian apparently loves marshmallows, he had to have left happy:)
Now that said, I can understand some negativity towards coming up, and paying, with the expressed interest in seeing the Breakfast, and having the set cut short (for info\'s sake, it was 1 two hour set, not two sets, and it was never advertised any differently than that).
For instance:
"Totally **** BS IMO, but props to the Breakfast for playing so hard. Not sure how much they were paid for the gig, but I paid $35 to listen to a music festival. By far, the most I\'ve paid for a one set Breakfast show. I would have gladly given that money to the band directly and not the festival promoters."
Now, I\'m pretty sure me and you spoke after the stoppage. My name is Jay, and you were fairly bitter, and not really understanding that we had to A) shut down any loud music right then to avoid issues, and B)that we were indeed setting up to play more live music, in a quiter setting, to make sure folks had some tunes to listen to all night long. The breakfast had a time frame they needed to stick to in terms of travel, and had already done the festival a great service by making it up and playing their asses off.
However, I also fully understood your bitterness, and implored you to relax, drink a bunch of beers and eat some food for your money, and settle up in the morning. Not sure you were hearing this too well.
The one thing I can say about the organizers is that they are good, rational people, with no interest in ripping people off, or making you feel like you were treated poorly. I\'m positive, having spoken to the folks since then, that had you gone up to anyone wearing a Cabinfest crew lanyard the morning after and requested a refund, you would have been accomodated. I mentioned this to you pretty blatantly, and you weren\'t really having anything of it. Instead, you brought your complaint to a message board, which is fine and good, but not really helping your situation any.
$35 was for a full day of music (5 bands, btw), along with FREE BEER and food. And still, all you had to do was politely, or hell, inpolitely, request a refund for the shortened set, and you would\'ve been compensated the next morning.
Anyway, the bigger point is: much love to all who did make it up, and who had a good time. It was an amazing 3 days despite the issues on Saturday night, and we were able to get more music in this year than any other. A ton of love and thanks to the Breakfast, the Breakfast fans, and none moreso than Di (Galenas), who is a champion of live music everywhere, and whom without, Breakfast at Cabinfest would\'ve never happened at all. Hopefully we\'ll get some more Breakfast/WBT shows together soon, and we can all rage the night away proper. Thanks for listening, and...how bout that first **** jam, eh? Beautiful music...I believe the set was taped, so hopefully archive.org soon enough!
-
well said cannontrip and i agree fully galenas, that\'s what it\'s all about. man that was fun, i cant stop thinking about it.
-
From what I\'m reading more than likely these folks throwing this "party" probably did not have the correct permits to do so.
if you have a permit to have a music festival then the noise ordinances and etc are cleared with the town well in advance. Neighbors can go and voice the opinions and concerns and then time limits and db levels are set etc etc. This is how it is always done
if they couldn\'t tell a neighbor to go screw at 10PM they were basically having a big party that they chose to charge for.
Just like if I threw a Huge Party at my house. if the cops show up for a noise complaint then I have to shut it down or turn the music down as I have not clear the event with the town.
If the event has a permit the police get a noise complaint, they may check the noise levels and tell the staff to turn the volume down but the event goes on.
Also if these folks didn\'t have a liaison to deal with police and fire chief etc etc then again it was a huge illegal party basically.
-
hey, i can see my tent in the picture!
i dont really think the cops would have arrested anyone at the event. it was a very well behaved gathering of only about 100 people max. Probably they would have just said to keep it down and no more music. I was thinking at the time they could have just shut all the doors to try to minimize the noise leaking outside, but i wasnt about to call any shots.
The food was great. IMO, 35 bucks for about 14 beers, 2 veggie burgers, a ton of homeade italian food and 3 servings of great homeade soup, not to mention a cool outside atmosphere and a decent amount of music is a good deal.
-
why didn\'t someone just turn down the pa??
-
who organizes a music festival, and doesn\'t clear the logistics with neighbors? Rinky - freakin\' - dinky.
-
I guess it was all about making the best of a chip of a situation
The "promoters" were truly looking out for everyone\'s best interest. Nobody wanted a police presence (especially me) and these guys were going above and beyond to make this a great time. This was less festival in the traditional sense and more of a backyard gathering; similar to Family Jam, I\'d imagine: Great food, free beer, and awesome vibes.
The Breakfast drove a long way there (and back!); and rained fire from the very start of the set. I\'m very grateful to have seen a delicious slice of music from the Cabinfest pie, with tPB as the headiest topping....

p.s. Thank you Diana (galenas)! I would have missed this if it weren\'t for you :)
-
listen, sometimes **** happens and you just gotta deal with it. in my personal and professional opinion, it\'s the people who overcome setbacks that succeed in the end. not the ones that **** and moan that it didn\'t go their way. the guys in the breakfast handled this situation more than cordially, and yeah stevie, i heard the van antics were hilarious. i\'m ready to move on to the next thing and stop dwelling on that which we cannot change.
-
I guess it was all about making the best of a chip of a situation....i heard the antics in the van were completely new level shennanigens on both the rides there and back.....
-
well the dude who made the decision, one of the guys in wounded buffalo theory, told me after cutting it off that he thought it better for the cops not to come to a place with a bunch of spunions and dunions and take that chance, and that it was the hardest thing to do because they were raging and he was loving it. WBT opened for the breakfast last year i think and they all know how sick TB is. they were all pissed about TB getting the boot. I definitely thought the whole situation weird and impossible especially since the time but i felt helpless in trying to rectify the situation; it was out of my hands. I just raged to mary jane for the rest of the night, bless her uber soul.
I def thought something else could have/should have been done but like i said it was pretty much out of my/a lot of our hands. Makes me even more pumped for backwoods
-
it seems shitty and disrespectful to The Breakfast to not let them keep playing to the last possible second
especially when it was not even a noise complaint in the first place??? thats what I really don\'t get.
What was the thought process?
"Oh damn neighbor #1 is pissed because neighbor #2 is setting off fireworks....better cut the music!"
just does not make sense but maybe I am missing a piece of the story.
-
I agree with Klout based on the info provided here ... it seems shitty and disrespectful to The Breakfast to not let them keep playing to the last possible second ... use every strategy, every idea and angle to keep them playing !!!! obviously whoever made that decision didn\'t know who they were turning off ... sacrilege... all you have to do is LISTEN to the music.
-
i totally agree with rujah\'s frustration and i was not very happy either obviously but i was trying to make the best out of the situaition. But i knew people like rujah and frolfer and my buddy cannontrip got there like right before breakfast and drove awhile too, so i knew that was completely shitty. I drove 5 hours and paid 30 bucks to see the breakfast but luckily i got there late friday night and had time to rage meet a lot of good people drink a lot of beer and eat a lot of food. Because if i hadn\'t i would have felt like Rujah does about paying 30 bucks for like not even a set, i thought about that instantly after it got cutoff. Rujah did you stick around for the low key WBT set, wasn\'t that bad, too bad they couldn\'t go all out.
-
Textbook "You see what it is.........is..." situation.
-
Wait they pulled the plug at 10 pm???
On the breakfast???
Because ONE guy was THREATENING to call the police???
That does seem like a pretty **** up and extreme course of action.
Call the guys bluff!
Worst case scenario the guy calls the cops a half an hour later and the cops show up in another half hour and fart around for a bit and the breakfast get another set in. Not like they would have arrested anyone, just shut it down. Furthermore, if it was the last night of the last year anyway why would they care so much about one guy\'s threats at 10 pm over something they were not even doing in the first place (fireworks)?
Gotta say sounds pretty clown shoes. No offense Diana.
i wasnt there, but i have to agree with klout.
for that to happen the way it did the promoters must have had tanks going and doing other illegal things so they didnt want the cops there at all to bust them for it. people like rujah who got there that night should have been issued refunds.
if the fireworks really were not set off by people at the festival then pulling the plug on the music would not have stopped them from setting off more.
if i went to the festival on saturday nite and paid $35 and was then told to go home id probably call the cops and narc on them if they refused to issue me a refund.
-
Rujah, your frustration is understood and I will talk to the organizers about what can be done. I can\'t promise anything, but I will pass along the sentiment and see what comes of it.
Klout, your response is laughable. I\'m not even going to waste my time writing a logical response. (Sorry, dude.)

Glad I didnt attempt to get the time off from work, or try to race over there after closing the store, because I would have been ripshit pissed at having the set cut short..........a sorry chip to the higest degree in my opinion.....
That\'s exactly what I did. They advertised music until 2 a.m. and they stopped it at about 10 p.m. on a **** Saturday night.
Sure, they had music on Thursday, Friday, and most of Saturday, but I wasn\'t there until late Saturday. I went to rage, and did for an hour of The Breakfast, but would have enjoyed listening to another set of Breakfast as well as some Wounded Buffalo Theory. BTW, from what little I heard of Black Mountain Symphony, they rocked.
Totally **** BS IMO, but props to the Breakfast for playing so hard. Not sure how much they were paid for the gig, but I paid $35 to listen to a music festival. By far, the most I\'ve paid for a one set Breakfast show. I would have gladly given that money to the band directly and not the festival promoters.
A refund would have been nice. I arrived about the same time the Breakfast did. (7:30 p.m.) $35 for less than 3 hrs of music is a rip-off, regardless of the unforeseen circumstances. Sure, the people were cool and I\'m sure the festival was chill, but I didn\'t drive 4+ hours there and back to hang out at a cabin fest with no live music. Honestly, I am **** glad this was their last year, not that I would ever go a festival run by this guys again.
What a **** joke. Maybe, this post belongs in the this thread (http://thebreakfast.info/forum/showthread.php?t=13940&page=8)

Cabinfest is the **** ****. Nothing but positive vibes and everyone is just smiling and having a good time. Great food, lots of beer. I give much respect and credit to the cabinfest crew. It was def a shitty situation and the last thing they wanted to do was stop the rager, cuz thats what it was . This long as set or 2 sets would have been epic(i dont even really want to know what they had in store...it would have been dirty) the 45 minutes ish they played was all energy, all songs well played, yeah that mayfly. Soooo 100% worth the 5 hour trip for only less than a set of breafast. Too many good people and good times. It sucked for the boys, just another one of the many bumps in the road. Adrian with the marshmallows was absolutely classic though. Galenas, I know you feel really bad about the whole situation but that was **** sweet and you\'re the **** so it\'s all good, we can only blame old people. Rujah, frolfer, dave, and of course Diana it was fun chillin. Supposedly last one, so glad i made it.
glad you embraced it! classic meeting you at 5am!

One question.......how can the neighboors stop a music festival? This would be the number one issue while planning a festival at a cabin, "what are the neighboors going to think/do when there is music raging throughout the night?"
Did anyone, while planning this event, go see the neighboors and let them know what was going on?
Did you guys forget to invite the neighboors to the festival? That move usually goes a long way.......
of course. this has been going on for six years now and this is the first time the plug was pulled. all the other neighbors actually enjoy that this goes down and i\'ve heard that some have requested to have the music louder so they could hear it better. apparently it\'s just this one guy that has a problem with it. i don\'t know the whole story though. this is just what i\'ve heard.
whatever the case, it is what it is and the breakfast has been getting props for making the trip. something like that is not taken for granted, ya know? everyone there fully appreciates the fact that the breakfast made the trek in the name of owning face. it\'ll all be paid forward, i\'m sure.
-
the closest neighbor i saw was about a half mile away

I don\'t understand why people call police over fireworks. From what I hear, the Northeast has been a rain forest this year so fire danger can\'t exactly be the primary concern. You\'d think people living out in the middle of nowhere would enjoy a little festivity on occasion to make up for the boring environ.
Not that it\'s the same situation, but I\'ve called the cops on people in the neighborhood over fireworks when they\'re going off well after midnight and constantly waking my baby up.
That being said, this is crap, but Steve is right, did anyone talk to the nieghbors or throw a couple bills their way to stay quiet?

Another cool thing I just remembered was Tim and Jordan trading verses of May Fly.
Oh yes, the karma will be paid out in full, I am sure of it.

boo on the uptight neighbors. You\'d think they could just deal with it one weekend a year. Sounds like you managed to make the best of it though.

First of all, my very sincere apologies to The Breakfast for driving all that way only to have your set cut short. The vibe around the camp grounds was just starting to lift off to that magical point as the announcement came to shut down. At first the thinking was that it was due to a noise complaint, but it turns out that the whole thing was a bit more complicated. Essentially (to make a long story short) it boils down to the fact that a neighbor thought we were shooting off fireworks when it was obvious that the fireworks were coming from another nearby household. So lame to threaten to call the cops over fireworks, but yes, this was night three of a festival that raged well past sun up Thursday and Friday and maybe he was just looking for any excuse. I don\'t know. But the bottom line is that it sucked terribly to end so abruptly and everyone from the Cabinfest crew feels horrible about having to pull the plug under what were rather stressful circumstances. Add it to the list of "**** me now" moments this band has suffered... (And no, this has not happened before in the six years of Cabinfest. Of course it **** happens during a Breakfast set. Of course.)
Nevertheless, people liked what they heard and were disappointed that it had to end, so at least there\'s some sympathy points out there. Taking this mishap like champs has to count for a future stroke of good karma, no?
Second of all, more apologies go out to the dot info crew who made it up hoping to rage out with The Breakfast a bit longer. I honestly don\'t think anyone could have been more upset about this than me. You know how much I love this band and how much I want new heads to love this band as well. But you guys are the best for taking it as it is and making the most of it. I hope you enjoyed the overall setting and still had a good time nonetheless. Great to meet some awesome new friends through this experience. Definitely a plus there!
As dour as this may sound, Cabinfest raged like a motherfucker the two other nights. (Just for the record.)
-
apparently someone nearby was shooting off fireworks, and the neighbors thought it was coming from cabinfest. Also, this was the 3rd day of the fest, so maybe people had just had enough of the noise.
-
wow, that sucks. has this ever happened thre before? the neighbors calling i mean. i mean, if this is yearly, you would think they could get over it for a little
-
yeah it was a big bummer about the neighbors...they were just getting warmed up...the Mayfly jam was insane
You all were blessed with some great music. So happy you were able to experience SER-ness
-

Jam > Hard Luck Harry > Cut Me Some Slack, May Fly Disarray(am I missing anything folks? I don\'t think so but you never know) set time was about an hour(?)
Well now,
just got back home from cabinfest. When I woke up early this morning the bonfire crew was still rocking out, much respect.
from a fan\'s point of view, seeing the Breakfast in such an intimate venue was such a treat. The cabin was a big loft style room with sliding glass doors all around. The guys were practically on top of each other and the sound was loud. Out on the deck things sounds crystalline.
such a chill place. just a nice little ol\' pawty. This felt like such a free atmosphere and I think it was reflected in all of the little jams that the boys cooked up for us.
Unfortunately, the neighbors complained about the noise at this point and I think threatened to call the police. They had to cut the jam short and never got to Ahoy!
Such a bummer. We were all primed for two sets and then..:holyshit: :banghead:
What are you going to do? Just a bummer.
That being said I loved every second of what we got to hear.
Thank you guys for coming all that way and laying it out there. You guys are simply the best. Music of the gods.
Awesome to meet some dot info-ers, Rujah, dredmonkey, cannontrip and diana(I think you are one of us, right?) And always good to see dave. As soon as I got there yesterday I see dave with his Breakfast shirt on and I knew I was in the right place!
It is a shame that we couldn\'t of figured something out and we could\'ve still gotten that second set. They were just setting us up for the meltdown, I just know it. Maybe Jordan on that old piano that was in there and Adrian with some brushes or something. Ahh well, still a great time. Cheers.
-
I think I have to roll out for this one. The Chaffee trend will continue with a hot show tonight, guaranteed.
-
Pondfest has been killer for two years running now. Can\'t wait to go again this year.
I\'ve been slacking getting my tickets, are they still $40? If not, Lindsey can you see me that extra for $40? Let me know and how I can get a hold of it?
The tix are @ $50 as of now. Melyssa snatched \'em up early bird style. I\'ll ask her what the dealie is and let you know. Basically it had been offered to Dave already, but not sure what his status is yet.
Even if you downstaters/CT people met up with us on the way, we could do a sweet ride up in style. I\'m getting my Dad to go hopefully-- he loves the Breakfast.

on the fence. Jeff you drivin?!

Backwoodspondfest will be sweeet. I had so much fun last year, and i got my ticket this year for 40 bucks.
-
i have a feeling this is going to be one of those shows where there are like 5 total .info people there and the show is insane.
TRUE! Have a sweet night. Let me know if you\'re in for Pondfest Sep. 11-12 in Peru. We have an extra for $40....
and I need to be there with him to give him what he needs to pass on through this realm. It\'s a bit sad, but I\'ll be thinking of you all ragin\' it late night, and I\'ll get a great smile indeed.
wow, that\'s really heavy. takes a special kind of person to be able to do something like that. i\'ll be thinking of you and throwing out vibes of strength and compassion for you and your patient....
Thanks for the love! It\'s been a slow, four year decline and he\'s at the end. I hope he doesn\'t suffer much longer, so I just sit with him and give him vibes of light as I hold his hand. I say my prayers and meditate, and ask the powers that BE to set his soul free.

im getting excited now that im in the mindset that i am going

upstate queeb? :D

100 mics LSD IM; Aldous Huxley style? That\'s how I wanna go.
That sounds much more appealing than the end stages of dementia/Alzheimer\'s. Strangely, there may be similarities, but the latter has way less CEV\'s...

I\'m sure, at this point, that would be way more appealing than dealing with the end stages of Alzheimer\'s disease. Btw- I am a fan of Aldous Huxley. ;o)

well thank god you\'ll be there, rujah. this roll call is depressingly pathetic right now. calling all bfam... helloooo??? are you out there???
regardless, the cabinfest crew gets down hard. just want some b-****-fam by my side. sheesh. is that too much to ask??
I would totally be there, but the trek to Pennsylvania/Chaffee Gathering last week bled me out of funds until next week. It was well worth it though... It also happens to be that I work thursday-saturday, and one of my clients needs 24 hr. hospital coverage-- and I need to be there with him to give him what he needs to pass on through this realm. It\'s a bit sad, but I\'ll be thinking of you all ragin\' it late night, and I\'ll get a great smile indeed. Then off to my sistah\'s 30th bday partay; We\'ll be going metal for the night.
-
hey rujah -- obviously if it was OK to publicly post the directions i would have done so myself! organizers do not want these out for the whole to see, which is why i deleted your post.
my bad. just didn\'t want people to miss out. hopefully, no **** show up. you know, besides me.
-
allright im going
happy happy! sent ya a PM!!
-
damn they wouldn\'t have let me in anyway
i would have vouched for you -- despite my better judgment..... ;)

b/c that\'s the way they want it. it\'s pretty much an invite only type of thing, loosely speaking. they don\'t want **** ruining the vibe. that\'s partially what makes it so great to be there. everyone\'s awesome. very communal. tough to experience anything like it, really...
-
..6^..
-
why would directions to the site be privileged information?
-
They are gonna have illegal fireworks and glass bottles so they don\'t want the po-po to know! :D
I hope you all rage this ****... I will partly be there in spirit and hopefully catch the next Break/fest ... peace+rage!

Could I get directions also?

^ nice, dude! i\'m so pumped!!
-
i am officially in for this
-
I believe single day tix are $30.
At most, they\'d be $35. still pretty good for as much beer as you can drink, food, a full day of music and an extra long breakfast set.
They\'ll be availible at the door. See you this weekend!
-
i can only go for 12 noon saturday, thru the night...any way we can get a discounted single night ticket? 50s a little steep for only going that one night.
-
if this wasn\'t the same weekend of vibes the 4 of us would be there for sure
-
I would so totally be there and you know it!!
Only reason I keep bitchin is because I really want to be there... but this **** quantum human cloning device schematics have taken longer to finish than I originally planned. We tested the prototype on some animals with only a 78% success rate, a little risky for human use. Once it goes into final production I\'ll be able to attend everything at once ... oh yea and make trillions selling these things to the military :P
-
well andes is in the middle of nowhere
isn\'t that exactly where you want something like this to be?
honestly, i don\'t mean to exert pressure here. i\'m just looking for some lovin, ya know? :D
-
klout, that **** like right down the road from you
but i can\'t make it either- gettin saturday\'s off of my job is a danglin\' doo\'
-
well andes is in the middle of nowhere
-
well thank god you\'ll be there, rujah. this roll call is depressingly pathetic right now. calling all bfam... helloooo??? are you out there???
regardless, the cabinfest crew gets down hard. just want some b-****-fam by my side. sheesh. is that too much to ask??
-
Okay, well I go to most of them but not all. Looks like I\'m only make it to Saturday/Sunday for this festival. Gotta work Saturday, but hopefully I can get there by 6 p.m. At least I won\'t miss the Breakfast or Wounded Buffalo Theory. Will Jordan be on keys for this show? I am so **** pumped.
Rage is the name of the game, the name of the game is to rage.
-
well that explains it -- i don\'t get upstate much. rage is the name of the game up at cabinfest, so rage i\'m sure we will!
-
sweet, rujah! haven\'t seen you around much lately -- looking forward to throwing down!
Waht? I go to all the upstate breakfast shows. Either way, can\'t wait to THROW IT DOWN. Probably be there all weekend. At least I\'m hoping so. BFAM represent.
-
I think some of my friends from oneonta might be going
excellent. who are these friends? fans of the breakfast or one of the other bands? think you\'re gonna make it?

If I may, let me say that a bfam presence at this little get together would honestly make me happier than ever. Cabinfest is organized by really close friends of mine each year in a beautiful mountain setting, isolated from the daily troubles of the world. It really is a "friends and family" type of event, and I know 100 percent that the bfam would mix perfectly with the Cabinfest regulars.
Please, contact me with any questions or concerns and I\'ll do my best to help you sort them out and get you up to Cabinfest.
