Title: does The Breakfast have a policy for videotaping
Post by: Vassillios on July 14, 2009, 02:03:08 pm
If you have a PC, windows movie maker should be on your computer, if you have a mac, imovie should be on your computer. both programs can be used to cut up the video so you can upload to youtube.

you can put it to a dvd as raw video and mail it to one of us, or build a dvd menu and host a torrent, or slice it up into songs / segments of less than 10 minutes and upload it to youtube.

haha, vallo wrote that. basically that\'s the formal form. In reality, talk to tim/adrian, preferably both. As long as they are ok with it, and the venue is ok with it then it\'s basically do what you want. the only thing we really ask above and beyond that is if there are multiple video tapers at a venue the work is colaborated. Hence, Ken can set up his tripod and shoot whatever he wants, but if matt and me are also shooting that night, we discuss how many cameras there are and placement and what they are all shooting so that we can maximize the efficiency of the shoot and don\'t end up with 10 cameras all pointed at chris\' amp during a drum solo. After that Ken does what he wants with his tapes/hd drive footage and then gives us a copy of the master footage so that we can archive it and mix it in with a final edit of the show.

This of course only happens on the rare occasions when there are multiple tapers. You also can have over-riding factors. Say, breakfast plays a festival and they have a camera crew on the contract. then you\'re out of luck to tape, etc, etc. That\'s an example of why the formal piece is written that way but overall it\'s just a matter of getting there early and communicating with the band/venue/other tapers 99% of the time.

I don\'t think it\'s actually in force.  There\'s plenty of video taping going on with the permission of the band.

Speaking about videotaping policy, I just found this on archive.org (http://www.archive.org/details/TheBreakfast).  Perhaps "the management" should revise/update this...

Taping Policy

http://www.thebreakfast.net/content.php?music=taping <-- The .net domain is just parked these days

The Breakfast Taping Policy

The Breakfast encourages the taping and trading of our live performances. We feel that each show is unique and want to extend the ability to our fans to recreate the live experience long after the show ends.

Audience Taping is permitted at almost all The Breakfast shows. When The Breakfast is performing at a festival or other events featuring multiple bands, that particular event\'s policy may override The Breakfast\'s customary taping policy. When The Breakfast is opening for another artist, that particular artist\'s policy may override The Breakfast\'s customary taping policy. All taping is limited to audience taping only. No soundboard patches will be given. No video will be allowed ever. Still photography without flash is allowed and encouraged at all The Breakfast shows.

All participants in audio recording exchange (regardless of format) acknowledge and respect the copyrights and exclusive ownership of the music and performances by the performers, writers and publishers. All taping must be for personal use only, which may include trading (via analog or digital tape, CD, or digital file transfer). Recordings may be traded only for an equivalent amount of similar media (cassettes or CDs, pre-recorded or blank). In no case may any officially released The Breakfast recording (live or studio) be duplicated or otherwise traded or offered.

All Audience Taping at The Breakfast concerts is authorized for non-commercial purposes only. Unauthorized sale, duplication and / or distribution are strictly forbidden. All The Breakfast\'s performances and recordings are the exclusive property of The Breakfast. All rights reserved. The rights to record The Breakfast performances set forth in this policy constitute and express, revocable license. We reserve the right to withdraw our sanction of recording, tape trading and / or non-commercial digital audio file transfers on a case specific basis or in general, as we deem necessary. No waiver of any copyright or trademark right is intended.

The enjoyment our audience in attendance at a The Breakfast concert is always our first and foremost comment.

O.K. ... I\'ve got good video/audio of most of Set II (through most of metropolis) and low quality rcrdg of whole show.
The good vid I have is a 4 GB chunk and my laptop won\'t touch it, just sits there spinning its wheels ("waiting to import...") which is very atypical
I do have it on VHS now ... what a joke ...   I\'ve got a few more ideas!

Does anyone know an easy straight-forward way of getting an AVI video off of a MacBook and onto the internet so y\'all can see it?

Set up a YouTube account
Upload the video file (unless it\'s over 10 minutes long, should be no problem at all)

Done!

thanks Ken ... I ended up having free reign the whole show but had some camera problems. I am presently trying to figure out what I have and what I don\'t.

I Usually Talk To Somebody In The Band Before I Video,
If I Don\'t Know Them.It Only Takes A Minute & There\'s
No Problems After With Any Video They Might Not Want
For Some Reason. Some Players Are Afraid A Badly Played
Song Might End Up On YouTube. Some Bands Have Management
Who Want Control Over What Gets Out.
The Band Should Be Given A Chance To Let You Know What
They Want Done With The Video.
Most Rooms Don\'t Mind Video If You Have The Bands Permission.
It\'s Best To Be Out Of The Way & Not Interfere
With The Crowd(Block Peoples View,Pushing Through A Crowd,
Extensive Video Of The Audience...).

Not the official policy, but please tape away and post a link back here!  There\'s usually one of the crew here recording audio and/or video at most shows.
