. yea, professionals do. for everyone else you are your own pit crew, carrying everything you need on you on the bike and also being ready to fix it all yourself when something breaks.
nothing worse than being 40 miles from home and snapping a derailleur line (cable that goes from the shifter to the gears on the wheel) and basically tells the bike what gear it\'s in. without it I was stuck in the highest gear I had so I could still pedal but only really, really fast and not moving. good for going up a big hill, bad for 40 miles of level riding to get home. I jerry-rigged it back together using a bandana. Looked pretty ghetto but it allowed me to shift gears and I was able to ride home ok.
for those who never saw the ink:

Do some folks have a "crew" that have back up wheels etc following like I have seen on TV for some races ?
Also when you finish a race like this are you completely drained or high or both ?
really awesome that you can do this and do
congrats

you\'re gonna have to bike over to the tanning salon as part of your training regimen

yea, there were a couple of ambulances and iv drips given out yesterday due to the heat and people not planning properly. luckily the run had a lot of shade and they had water stations every mile.
however that didn\'t prevent my arms from becoming completely sunburned despite suntan lotion

i would probably die somewhere along the bike route. and if i somehow survived that, i would without a doubt be found passed out on the side of the road during the run. totally ridiculous, paul ryan.
-
congrats, paul. that\'s sick. and congrats to you, too, wolfman! quite the athletic crew we\'ve got over here!
Congratulating me would be totally inappropriate consdering Paul\'s insane accomplishment. Way to go Paul!

7 hours 11 minutes
minus 15 minutes aprox to change a tire.

Half Iron Man...pffft...I just got home from running a 10K! 52:48! I could do a Half Iron Man while drunk, stoned, blindfolded, hungover, one hand tied behind my back, in a potato sack, suffering from swine flu, ulcerative colitis, and the plague, no food for 3 days before or after, and got home from Phish at 2am the night before. :)
Go Paul!
-
I know for a fact that I can\'t do any of these stages on their own, never mind all in one day. Best of luck to you.
-
Awesome feats of strength are inspiring! Great job.
-
maybe i should do this also...paul...is it too late? and does this mean you\'re not going to jakes?
