Referring to 5.31.09 more so than the past. Should have been more clear on that.
This is more like I only want to see Phish on 5.31.09.

So...it looks like DMB will not be making a guest appearance at Fenway w/ Phish afterall. They are scheduled to play the CBS morning show 5/31 and then a CD release show @ the Beacon Theatre on 6/1.
Lexington is pissed!
thank fuckin god for that
Absolutely.
Let Trey play with DMB. Let Phish play with DMB.
I can live with that.
Do not let DMB play with Phish.
Not sure I would want to hear it.
Maybe some of you would want to hear it.
Might be good.
Might not.

There are a couple of songs that Trey could sit in with... LIOG, Recently, Ants, 41, Two Step...
Who knows what will/can happen. I\'m just hoping something does. My girlfriend is the DMB fan. We orginallly only had Friday night seats, then I landed my Phish tix. So I figured it might be a shot in hell but if anything might go down it would be Saturday so I scored tix throughthe Instant Ticketing on her Warehouse account. Now I\'m up there for the whole damn weekend!

Sorry. Love Phish, love DMB studio music, can\'t stand the band live... I know that I\'ve said this time and again, but I saw DMB on 6/11/96; a friend of mine worked at TGSAC and I gave him $10 to let me and date onto the lawn... I wished that I could have those 2 hours and $10 back...

Yeah but what about the other way around w/ Phish sitting in w/ DMB on Saturday?
I would not be surprised if Trey sat in w/ DMB. Probably on "Lie in our Graves", which they have done together a few times. It is also my favorite DMB song.

oh god....lol. was this ex of yours from mechanicsville va by chance???
:scared: the internet is far too small of a place!!!
for the sake of full disclosure, he did have a good voice, but since most of what he was singing at the time were dmb tunes, he was using it wrong. i remember listening to a 4 track demo of a song he\'d written. it was cheesy as hell, waaaay dmb-ish, and far too poppy, for me. however, it was also well constructed, catchy, and obvious that the girls would love it.

all he knew were dmb songs and he kept trying to sing just like dave. well, one day i **** flew off the handle and let mraz know that the only reason dave sings like that is because he has had no vocal training and most likely can\'t hear himself. he sings like mary matlin (the deaf chick) talkes!!! dude, nasally is not a positive attribute when it comes to singing. neither is pulling the back of your tongue up to your soft palette and trying to sing through that. and if you think those are good techniques, then you deserve every bit of ridicule you\'ll get for the rest of you\'re **** life!!
I was never fond of his voice either.
Anyone else a hater of studio Umphrey\'s vocals? I hear their tunes on my various Pandora stations and can\'t stand the vocals.
Brendan Bayliss definately gets to me after a while. Still waaay better than dave though.

I like DMB music. Too bad going to their shows makes you creepy if you\'re older than 23.
Something nobody has ever been able to adequately explain to me is why people taped and traded tapes of DMB shows, just like Phish tapes. I don\'t know if this still goes on, but it was definitely happening from 97-99. What were these people thinking?
they were high.
the one dmb show i went to, i was with a kid who called the opening song, the segues, the cover song, closing song, and encore. that was his 5th or 6th time seeing dmb that year. wouldn\'t it get boring to see the same set over and over and over and OVER???

And the Phish phanbase is any better?
I was just talking with co-workers this morning about how most genre-specific fanbases are made annoying by the poser scenesters who draw the most attention. As unconventional as they believe themselves to be, they fit perfectly the stereotype of the purpose-seeking loser of their respective scene:
DMB frat boys, heady flakes in the jamband scene, the posers in the punk crowd, the snotty hipster turds donning superslim jeans and played out black-rimmed specs in indy rock, rastafari white kids.........and the list goes on.

a few things...
first i\'d like to thank the moderators for making me author of a thread with more than one page. thats a first for me.
second, i\'d like to say that i wasn\'t trying to offend anyone (except all the goddam bro-rapists... you guys really suck)
third, i agree that the band is very talented, I have heard their good **** ("the headie days") and i know of, have heard and do appreciate their improvisations and musicianship.
fourth, i\'d like to mention that in addition to DMB, Trey is also a big fan of Bug, dope and several other things not worht mentioning that make his opinion not very important in my eyes. sorry lieth, but just because someone i like likes someone i hate, doesnt make me want to like them too
fifth, people on this board hate on many other things as well as DMB, ranging from really great Bfast tunes (Spunk comes to mind), Phish tunes (YEM comes to mind), and music artists (Zappa comes to mind, in fact I may have addressed all three references in a previous post/rant somewhere, i\'ll leave it to Yoda to dig it up). people hating things on this board should come as no surprise to anyone.
I\'m not sorry.

they did used to be great in 92-93. i\'d go see them most tuesdays for $3. but then they started rehearsing their \'jams\' and trying to be great big stars. hell, i even told stefan (when he asked me) that unless he was ok with not playing exploratory, improvisational music, that he may want to get out of the band and continue with his free ride to college while trying playing with other bands. of course, three or four months later he was on mtv and not on campus anymore... that\'s when i stopped really paying attention, because they weren\'t playing the type of music i was most interested in - the stuff where mistakes can happen, because its live. but yeah, they\'ve been great musicians and seem to be trying to be so again. the addition of tim reynolds i like, but mostly because i like his solo stuff better.
but as for dave himself.... he still owes my buddy josh $5 from a party we were all at in 1992. that was the same party where i was playing with him and tim on the same couch and even though i was keeping up and jamming right along, he said i was throwing him off, because he didn\'t like the sound of my ovation. screw that guy!!
but in the end, you wouldn\'t catch me within twenty miles of a dmb show, solely because of the fanbase. same with bisco... if you being wasted is the point of you benig at the show, please don\'t stand anywhere near me, thanks.

DMB kicked some major ass up until Crash. They then became very mediocre until about 2 years ago when they remembered how to jam.
Oh and Carter Beauford is one of the best drummers out there so they have that going for them.
I am actually very excited for the new album.

I think people\'s irrational hate for DMB is hilarious. It\'s almost never predicated on the music, but instead on the generalization of the fanbase. I\'m sure most of the people on here who have declared their hatred have never been to a dave matthews band show or are familiar with their "headier" days. THe fact is they used to be great. The\'ve played with John Popper, PHish, Bela Fleck, Herbie Handcock, and several others. To this day Carter Beauford is still my favorite drummer and I will put Dave himself up there with any great lyracist. Without DMB I probably would have never gotten into PHish, Disco Biscuits, the Breakfast, etc...They were my "gateway band".
I\'ve probably only seen 3 or 4 shows since 2000 and on the whole I have not been moving in the same musical direction as they have lately, but that doesn\'t mean there wasn\'t a time they were my favorite band. I would dig up some of my old stuff and post it here, but it probably wouldn\'t be worth the effort for this crowd.
The obnoxious frat boys, drunken ****, and absurd ticket prices don\'t make it any easier for me to get out and see them these days, but under the right circumstances I would be excited to check them out again.

this thread almost made me vomit.....and definitely came close to bringing me to tears......come on guys....leave dave alone. he\'s not nearly as bad as you\'re making him sound. and the band members are among some of the best i\'ve ever seen!! i mean carter?? boyd?? hello?? they\'re incredible hands down.....and they also have a hand in writing the music as well....it\'s not all dave. so....BACK OFF! I say that with love :)

I remember going to see DMB back in 96 or 97 at PNC arts center and getting in with a date for $5 because one of my friends was working the venue. Let\'s put it this way... I paid $5 for two people and I feel like I got ripped off. They played "Too Much" for too long...

Dave pre 2001 was really some good stuff. I have a show from the Meadows back in \'96 or \'97 where Bela Fleck and Jeff Coffin come out and jam with them for 6 or 7 songs and it is great. Back in the day where he would play songs like #41, Two Step, Jimi Thing, Lie in Our Graves, and Seek Up all the time was great.

i like the music but hate the 2 minutes between songs where everyone is going ape **** and Dave is just up there eating it up. just play another song dammit. no segues, it\'s all about the accolades.... pisses me off.

my drummer loves dave. to this day i still verbally emasculate him any time he mentions it.
What is with the dave hatred on these boards?
He\'s not that bad, though his more recent (last eight years) have been getting a little too quasey religous to me, also I don\'t like how he has been trying to solo more; he\'s a good rythum guitarist and should avoid playing lead at all cost.
I basically listen to them because of Byod.
I listen to them because they have a voilinist, and Jefferson Airplane had a violinist, and Papa John Creach is one of the cooliest dudes ever.
