looks like a wet weekend

Have never been to this, and it\'s less than 5 miles away from me. But, luckily, I\'ll instead be driving over 6 hrs. to the Chaffee Gathering in PA to spend two all-out crazy nights with The Breakfast and others...

***UPDATE***

Quote
Chromeo, previously scheduled to perform on the main stage on Saturday afternoon at 5pm, has moved to the 10:20pm slot on Friday night due to last minute travel conflicts. The performance is now scheduled after a set by the Disco Biscuits, allowing for greater exposure by this burgeoning duo. Break Science, which features Adam Deitch and special guest Alex B of Pnuma Trio, is filling the Saturday afternoon slot. Additional schedule changes include: Ott will join fellow Twisted Records label mates for the Thursday evening Twisted Records All Star Tent and Dr. Fameus\' start time is shifting to 5:15pm on Thursday evening. An updated schedule is available below and online at http://www.campbisco.net.

So looks like there is no Chromeo in my future.  I\'m a little disappointed, but not as much as I would have been a couple days ago.  I finally got done listening to all of "Fancy Footwork" and while I think there are some "fun" tracks on there, most of it is a little "cheesy" (good description) for my tastes.

honestly, 5 pm on saturday is probably going to be recharge time for me anyway.

12-2: preparing for the day/revving myself up/light lunch
2-3: indobox
3-4:15: biscuits
4:15-??: check out biodiesel/kj sawka
??-6:30: dinner/more revving up/visit with friends/start to get ridiculous
6:45-8:45: ac slater/kill the noise
8:45-9:15: continue being ridiculous
9:15-end of fest: lose my mind completely

are you ser???

i\'m a little disappointed in not seeing any twisted acts this year (especially younger brother live). but that means that i have much less motivation to sneak in friday night and possibly get beaten/**** by bikers...so i\'ve got that going for me...which is nice

There really isn\'t anything I will be TOO disappointed to miss Thursday or Friday.  Saturday looks like a *GREAT* day of music!

The interesting thing to note here is "Tractorbeam vs. Perfume".  Apparently any of the 6 Disco Biscuits sets can become a Tractorbeam vs. Perfume...so while I\'m sure we\'ll get at least one of those sets Saturday, I\'m also sure I\'ll miss one or more Thursday and Friday.  It will be a tough decision whether its worth it to try to go up Friday night or wait until Saturday morning...but i will probably end up going Friday night???

Saturday:

Indobox > Disco Biscuits > Biodiesel* > Chromeo / Superjam? > Brother\'s Past > STS9 / AC Slater > 1 hour break > Disco Biscuits > James Murphy > Disco Biscuits > DFA tent

i\'ve been listening to a whole bunch of LCD soundsystem lately (as well as their earlier project Out Hud) ... very excited and curious to see what the DFA tent is going to be like.

s.t.r.e.e.t. d.a.d. is an awesome album. you know they\'re a good band if they spawn both lcd soundsystem and !!!

downloaded this album last week. i can\'t make it through an entire track. i\'m sure i\'ll have a good time if i see them live at camp, but i still think it\'s just way too cheesey

i couldn\'t make it through more than 2 songs at Starscape for this very reason... the cheese truly carries through the live show as well....

So, I\'m going.  wahooo!
But I am going to buy my tix there because I am annoyed by the service fee, that basically makes the price the same as the gate price.

good to know you\'re definitely going! (we probably discussed this already, didn\'t we...). i guarantee this camp will be 1000x more enjoyable for you than the last one (on all fronts).

no idea about this ac slater guy. nice little mix though. if i could, i would listen to female british vocals over a techno beat 24/7

Chromeo - YES YES YES.  Electronic/Funk/Dance.  Great stuff to get down to.  I hope I get a chance to see them Saturday, but I\'m willing to bet they play Friday setbreak.

with any luck, they\'ll be playing either wednesday or monday

I think Vibes line-up takes a dump all over this. But that probably tells you something about my musical tastes. George Clinton & P-Funk, Deep Banana Blackout, Ratdog, Dark Star, Buddy Guy, Assembly of Dust, hell I even love Max Creek. Some of the other bands I\'m not psyched about but will probably be pretty good regardless.

Real instruments for the win ;)

Shame and a half Breakfast can\'t be found at either though.

K\'Naan - Rapper with some interesting beats, some of which are African influenced.  I don\'t listen to enough of the genre to really tell you what\'s good and what\'s not...that being said.  I\'ve been listening to The Dusty Philosopher.  It\'s not bad.

EOTO - Uses a lot of sound effects and not enough of a beat.  I would describe it as "minimalist" electronica.  Not really enough substance for me to listen to on disc.  Not really too impressed.

Dr. Dog - Sounds like 60\'s / 70\'s rock and roll with a folky twist.  Really don\'t hear many bands that sound like this now a days.  Seems like an odd fit for Camp Bisco.

Bonobo Live - Doesn\'t really do much for me.  I\'ve heard people praise these guys big time, but from what I heard it seems pretty generic.  Nothing I would go out of my way to listen to.

Blue tech - Not really dance music.  It seems more like something I would want to watch tripping my face off in a Planet\'arium starring up at some laser light show.

Chromeo - YES YES YES.  Electronic/Funk/Dance.  Great stuff to get down to.  I hope I get a chance to see them Saturday, but I\'m willing to bet they play Friday setbreak.

AC Slater - House/Electronic/Dance.  A dance party could ensue.  Nice bass lines...not as much substance as some stuff out there, but very listenable.

more to come as I get through some of this stuff.

Huh. Music Sunday?

I think this will be a last minute decision probably a lot based on peer pressure... I can\'t really say that anyone there besides Shpongle and STS9 are much of a draw for me... then again my friends did rent an RV...

hmm hmmm hmmmm

Bdfree...last 3 years i\'ve gone in knowing very few of the other acts at Camp...besides the Umphrey\'s, STS9s, and BPs of the world.  Each year i\'ve been blown away by the stuff I\'ve never heard before.  If you have a RV spot it would be foolish not to go ;)

Maybe we can get zuke to make some recommendations based on this year\'s lineup (if he already hasn\'t...i haven\'t checked the whole thread).

i was waiting for a schedule so i could narrow my focus, but here are some links and thoughts:

tractorbeam (http://www.archive.org/details/db2007-06-26.sbd.flac16) vs. the perfume (http://www.archive.org/details/db2003-05-28.RM.shnf) - two disco biscuits side projects. tractorbeam essentially nixes all lyrics from a biscuits show to allow a little more exploration with the music...this usually results in a 4-hour dance party. the perfume is a disco biscuits cover band...a "band" that hasn\'t played since the departure of their original drummer. they (and when i say they, i mean the biscuits playing as their own cover band) put a new spin on their own songs. this allows them to infuse reggae, bluegrass, "early U2," "ramones," "devo," dub, and, yes, even techno into their repertoire. the link i\'ve provided contains a legendary jam->techno i-man. more wierdness can be found here (http://www.archive.org/details/db2003-10-23.shnf).  nobody knows exactly how this set (these sets?) will play out, but it has incredible potential

the orb - i\'ve only heard one of their albums (the dream (http://rapidshare.com/files/57291489/The_Orb_-_The_Dream_2007.part1.rar) part II (http://rapidshare.com/files/57297022/The_Orb_-_The_Dream_2007.part2.rar)). apparently they\'re pioneers in the field of electronic music. i suppose that\'s true. if they\'re playing saturday, i certainly wouldn\'t miss their set.

DFA disco tent - if this is going on saturday, i already know this will be my highlight. it\'s not clearly stated how this is exactly going down, but i don\'t know how it could possibly be bad. the DFA record label is home to some of the following artists:

-LCD soundsystem (their album 45:33 (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=O8ELZMRW)) - i could describe them as dance-punk, i suppose. your best bet is to just download and listen. they won\'t technically be at camp, but you should download this album anyway

-special disco version - a side project of LCD soundsystem that will be performing their own set at camp. i expect their set to be a dj set and also **** insanely awesome. check out this set (http://www.filestube.com/851150676f7ce23303ea/details.html) or their terribly designed myspace page for a taste. special disco version is not just a clever name...you can expect some ser disco **** for this act

-holy ghost! -another coupla djs that will be at camp. here\'s a link to one of their mixes!kcrw mix (http://fiftyonefiftyone.com/trax/mixtape/holy%20ghost!%20kcrw%20mix.mp3). also very disco-ey

-some other DFA acts that won\'t be at camp, but whose albums you should download...like right now:

-hercules and love affair - hercules and love affair (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=l8pektpk) - i\'m not kidding download this album this instant

-hot chip - the warning (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XWJ4U1FC) (as made famous by its 5 minute tenure in the cd player of the fenway party bus)...and for the hell of it:made in the dark (http://rapidshare.com/files/150838672/Made_In_The_Dark.Mumblz.rar)

-the juan maclean - less than human (http://www.mediafire.com/?zmgmqgdlumu). some more weird techno shiz

campgoers can only hope that some of these artist get spun in tent (since everybody else will be)

twisted records all-star tent - not 100% about this one either, but you can expect a heavy dose of simon posford (shpongle, hallucinogen, younger brother), benji vaughn (prometheus, younger brother), and ott (producer for various posford projects). a number of downloads can be found in this thread (http://www.thebreakfast.info/forum/showthread.php?t=14324&highlight=shpongle%27d&page=2). but for good measure, here\'s one i\'ve been listening to a bunch:
hallucinogen - in dub: live (untracked) (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=FBIAAKAK)

by no means a comprehensive recommendation. i expect to do a little more prep over the next few weeks. but like nicknels said, at camp it\'s easy to be blown away by an act you\'ve never heard of. and dude, if you\'ve got some buddies with an RV, you have to go

Ok, I know it goes against what I just said, but I too would LOVE to see Justice.

Some of my choices have been said, but here\'s my wish list, in order:

Brother\'s Past
Electron
The Breakfast
Of Montreal
Simian Mobile Disco
LCD Soundsystem
Atmosphere (would be the best hip-hop act in CB history)
The Weird Beards
Aesop Rock
Peter Bjorn & John
Tapes N Tapes
The Arcade Fire

I know some of these bands don\'t fit your "typical Camp lineup" but I think thats the point, they need to mix it up a little bit.

And Zuke, you can hold me to this point, if at least 2 of the above named acts does indeed play Camp this year, i will go.

looks like Benny Boomers is in

u should come this year igzy! i see it as more of a camping trip with some good music as a backdrop. i always have so much fun at indian lookout, its so beautiful, and nothing beats being outside for 3 days imho.

Dillusional ;)

Camping is being out in the middle of nowhere...or at the very least somewhat seculded.  Small group, campfires, hiking, taking in the surroundings.

Camp Bisco is a clusterfuck of spunions and degenerates...some of which are my good friends :) Don\'t get me wrong, I have LOVED every Camp i\'ve been to, but I am not exactly taking in the beuty.  Maybe it\'s a "can\'t see the forrest for the trees" thing, but the natural surroundings are lost on me.  That being said, there is nothing wrong with 3 days of being outside, booze, friends, and music in a more relaxing atmosphere than any club/venue can offer.

It\'s unfortunate that you can\'t see just how pretty upstate new york is. the wildflowers, the open skies and rolling hills, its simply gorgeous. I think it provides a fantastic atmosphere for a festival.....

I\'ve spent 23 of the 26 years of my life as a dancer.... and to be outside, with my friends, dancing around under the stars to really sick DJ\'s/music, its just awesome. i love dancing with strangers, i love people watching and admiring the talents of others, i love making friends for the night or weekend that are just plain fun to be around. so maybe they are **** up degenerates or whatever.... doesn\'t make those experiences less fun for anyone....

not to say that there aren\'t shady characters all over camp bisco. but i think its a little hypocritical to call out all the **** up people at camp bisco, and then spend your summer touring with phish.... you really think the people around you at a phish show are less under the influence of a myriad of substances than at camp bisco? sounds like you\'re the delusional one....

I like upstate NY just as much as the next guy and I can recognize natural beauty, even in a sea of concert-goers...SPAC is my favorite outdoor venue and the surrounding area is absolutely gorgeous.  ILCC, while being isolated, spacious, and ideal for the Camp Bisco crowd, is nothing THAT amazing.  It\'s a few open fields surrounded by trees.

As far as the camp crowd and the "scene" in general...i think its pretty obviously i\'m not that bothered by it.  I have met some great people and had some interesting conversations with complete strangers.  I have been able to tell some amazing stories because of what I\'ve seen and who i\'ve interacted at and I wouldn\'t trade it for anything.  Did you read my post?  Degenerates and spunions is most certainly a broad generalization, but from the outside looking in I can probably be put into that catagory.  When you go to a festival like Camp Bisco or are going to see a band like the Disco Biscuits, I think a majority of us "get down" in a similar fashion.  That being said, I think you know the certain element of the Bisco crowd I am talking about and it would be naive to dismiss or deny those people exist.  When you are at a show you do not have to go looking for it, they usually make themselves known, but you know what...it\'s a younger crowd.  When you put booze, drugs, and that kinda music together and let loose for a late night or a weekend it is to be expected.

I think the difference at a Phish show is not the substances that are present, its the age of fans.  I would say there is a HUGE difference between the way late teens/early 20\'s act vs. the mid/late 20\'s or early 30\'s behave.  On the whole it is a much more mellow and mature crowd.  In a phish crowd there is obviously those that more "extreme" than others, but proportionally less than a DB crowd.  Of course there are certain things with phish phans you don\'t see with Biscuits fans that are sketchy too...specifically young children with limited supervision on lot or malnourished dogs or stuff like that.

This is getting long...my point is I like love going to see band like Phish and the Disco Biscuits, and that includes everything that comes with it.  I have been doing it for over 10 years and will probably continue to do so for years to come (although probably on a more limited basis).  I have met so many people from the many shows and afterparties over the years that most of my time is spent with them at shows, so at this point I probably don\'t go out of my way as much to meet as many new people these days.  However, I will still call it like it is...and yes the Disco Biscuits scene contains lots of spunions and degenerates

u should come this year igzy! i see it as more of a camping trip with some good music as a backdrop. i always have so much fun at indian lookout, its so beautiful, and nothing beats being outside for 3 days imho.

i could look at it that way, but i see it more as a 4 day bender where i get 0 sleep and spend 500 dollars at the minimum and spend at least 10 hours wondering if i\'m really alive and if normal people should be allowed to be this way in public.  the music would be a hella cool backdrop though.  hmmm... i\'ll have to see how work goes between now and then.  the disco biscuits have consistently been the best jamband in 2009 though.  thats for damn sure.  how much are saturday tickets?

Dillusional ;)

Camping is being out in the middle of nowhere...or at the very least somewhat seculded.  Small group, campfires, hiking, taking in the surroundings.

Camp Bisco is a clusterfuck of spunions and degenerates...some of which are my good friends :) Don\'t get me wrong, I have LOVED every Camp i\'ve been to, but I am not exactly taking in the beuty.  Maybe it\'s a "can\'t see the forrest for the trees" thing, but the natural surroundings are lost on me.  That being said, there is nothing wrong with 3 days of being outside, booze, friends, and music in a more relaxing atmosphere than any club/venue can offer.

you seem like resourceful guys, im sure you could sneak your way in on friday night....

very surprised to hear you\'re just in for 1 day though, seems like an awful lot of driving/money for just a single night. will u guys have access to the camping area?

I\'m feeling resourceful.  If we get up to Camp with tickets in hand by say...11/11:30, i\'m feeling comfortable that we will be able to get in...even if that means going in with no gear and regrouping after the music stops.

Camp Bisco really isn\'t THAT far away...3 hours tops from South Norwalk.  If there were a Friday/Saturday pass maybe I would consider it, but I don\'t really want to take that Thursday off from work and I think Zuke is in the same boat.  I think another factor is 3 days of camping.  For me personally, it is tough to sleep uncomfortably/on the ground for a couple of days and I just don\'t really have the desire to do it.  If we were in an RV it would be a completely different story.  That was the plan for this year that didn\'t work out, but will most certainly go down next year.

I\'ll be happy with 3 sets of the biscuits and some other great acts (Saturday is always the best) and if we can catch Friday latenight...even better.  We can go in with light gear and some booze and be all set...and with someone who has already volunteered to drive ***w/ free gas*** it seems to make a lot more sense.

yeah it\'s not so much about not having the resources to pull it off. it\'s more that (i feel) we kind of reached a tipping point last year where just going up and doing the festival was fun, but it was just doing the same thing we did 5 years earlier. we made a consious decision after camp to do it right next year (this year). we knew that would mean RVing it. then phish came back and another consious decision was made to use our resources (money/time/energy) to focus on phish this summer and come back for one more camp bisco next year and do it up big. also it\'s nice to take a break from doing the same things that have been constants since \'04 (jam on the river, weekend of camp bisco...the disco biscuits in general, for me)

\'cause good things need a little rest...

Alright...i\'m officially in for this one.

SATURDAY ONLY.

The schedule has not been released yet, but I\'m hoping that on Saturday I get at least:

2 sets of Disco Biscuits
Tractor Beam vs. Perfume
STS9
DFA DISCO TENT!!!
Chromeo (but i think he will be doing Friday Late night)
James Murphy and Pat Mahoney (LCD soundsystem)
Dr. Dog
Holy Ghost
Mixed Bag\'s Superjam
Prometheus (again, i think this will be Friday)
Flying Lotus
Dr. Fameous
Orchard Lounge
INDOBOX!

I\'m doing Saturday only, so I hope this means 12:01am Saturday (which means I would catch a good 2 or 3 hours of the Friday lineup).

Can\'t Wait!

have you done any research on all of their schedules or is that just a wish list? the DFA disco tent/LCD guys are gonna be the best part of the weekend...i\'m already convinced. 12:01 am saturday makes sense...logically. something tells me we won\'t be able to get in until like 10 am or something though. if we got in midnight that would be great, we\'d still have a solid 3 hours of music (i\'m sure the twisted tent won\'t start until late).

No research...just a wishlist.  Even if they have a policy in place (which i doubt) that they don\'t let Saturday ONly in until 10am, if we show up just before midnight on Friday, we should be able to talk ourselves in...i\'m not really to concerned about that.

If we get in Friday night, we should be able to catch almost everyone on that list (and then some).

Best Part:  I talked with Hettrick last night and he wants to go.  He has volunteered to drive (company car and free gas).  Can\'t pass it up

Can\'t say that I\'ve been to any of these festies, despite the place being literally within 10 miles of my house. Maybe I\'m too oldschool, but I am not in the scene enough to know about any of the other bands mentioned. Wah wah wah wah whaaah. Perhaps the genre is the most important in making me desire to be there, not particularly the names of bands. Any tips here? I\'m all for Lucid, Dark Star, U-Melt, Ryan Montbleau, The New Deal, Medeski, Martin, & Wood genres.

to be honest, the biscuits are what excites me the least about camp bisco. essentially, its an electronic music festival, so its heavy on the DJs, but they also make a point to keep it diverse and theres a good share of bands of various styles. dont be scared away just cuz you\'re not the biggest biscuits fan; like i said, its a good, eclectic mix, and most likely you\'ll be surprised at what you might actually like !

also: people are really cool at this festival... i\'ve never had an unpleasant experience due to poor neighbors or people being jerks.... i feel like biscuits kids have a bad reputation, but i\'ve never found it to be true...

Of Montreal (!!!!!)
The Egg (again)
MGMT
Cut Copy
and Brothers **** Past

is !!! confirmed this year?? i was real upset i missed them last year...

i doubt the biscuits kids could handle Of Montreal... i wouldn\'t want to put kevin through that... even though it would definitely be the highlight of the weekend (especially after that mediocre Music hall of williamsburg show last month...meh)

i saw MGMT open for Beck in october, and it wasn\'t bad at all... i mean all they played was oracular spectacular, nothing new or different, but they held it together. it\'d be cool to see them on the lineup!

i guess i\'d like to see Gui Boratto on the lineup... maybe some Hot Chip or Ghostland Observatory... I\'d LOVE to see Justice perform.... and i would probably die if Black Moth Super Rainbow or Simian Mobile Disco made an appearance...

I need more actual bands to get me there this year I think. Waaay too many DJs last year IMO. Don\'t get me wrong, I love myself some Orchard Lounge, but there is something about a live band that a dj set just cant touch

The gameplan as of now is to rent a RV from Albany (~25 miles from Camp) and do it in style.  You can rent a 6 person RV with all the fixins for about $1,000.  Tickets are about $135 after charges and RV pass is an add\'l $125.  Add in the cost of food and beer and whatever else and 6 heads could do this for about $450-500 each easily.  That would be a great weekend!

So...who\'s coming with me?
