7 years later and OBL is still on the loose. The Taliban is still a force to be reckoned with in Afghanistan (and Pakistan). But hey, at least the surge [in Iraq] worked! :doh::no:
you know, even if we had captured OBL, and if the taliban was still eliminated, we still have not done anything to address the cause of the 9/11 attacks.

what do you think was the cause? what should have been done to fix it?
I do not have the nessecary knowledge and background to come with a concise answer to that question.
However, I know that if someone hates me, and I want them to stop hating me, I am not going to beat them up.

I personally feel that 911 is one of those events that there is no wrong way to react to the day with regards to rememberance. My brother took the path into WTC that morning, but took an earlier train and missed the attacks by about 40 minutes, I consider myself (and my family) lucky in that respect. I don\'t really reflect back on 911, Pearl Harbor, or Kennedy...I find myself reflecting on 6/6, D-Day (my grandfather was part of the first day invasion and he passed on a lot of the horrors) & 12/8 (Lennon)
Wounds like these take time.
I was four blocks away when it happened. Last year was the first year I didn\'t watch any memorials, go to the City, etc...
They run deep, and they always will.

It was the day the soundtrack for the motion picture "Training Day" was released. Back in college we had a huge training day theatre poster on our wall. Would always bring back the memory of where I was on 9/11, whenever my eye caught the text on the poster "Soundtrack Available September 11th 2001". Kinda weird

November 22, 1970 is seven years after the Kennedy assassination. December 7, 1948 is seven years after Pearl Harbor.
November 22 also happens to be my birthday.
Ah, yes. I see what you\'ve done now. I think maybe it\'s possible that people took a step back 7 years after Kennedy was shot. Even today, around Nov. 22nd, the history channel shows every documentary ever done about the event.
IMHO I dont think people react/reacted to Pearl Harbor 7 years later as they do with 911. My reason is that as much as a Military tragedy as it was 2350 people died. That was the beginning of our War in the Pacific and that death toll pales in comparison to the many battles that were yet to be fought. I think people remember the day but I think the carnage that proceeded it probably lessened the blow so to speak.
Kennedy - is very similar as people know exactly where they were when it happened but the country doesn\'t stop and run specials and all the other propaganda liek they do when this date comes up. I think the difference is his Assassination did not get a politicized as the events of 911 have.
Does anyone else remember during the 2000 campaign when Bush had to go on the offensive and say that he would not persue an "isoloationist" forgien policy when pushed by Gore on what he would do during an internal crisis?
Remember when the spy plane getting shot down off China was going to the "the big test" for his forgien policy?
Then how he kidn of disapeared Texas over the summer (well, he still does that) and had just released his manifesto on why stem cell research is bad?
The summer of 2001 was a great year.
My early 60\'s history is not very good, so I can\'t do a "major events" on 63, but while Pearl Habour was itself a surprise attack, anyone who, on December 6th 1941 would have been asked "will we join the war?" most everyone would have said "yes, at some point." Everyone knew it was a matter of time.
November 21st 1963 "Will Kennedy be assasenated?"
Actually, I bet that maybe 15% of the population would have said "yes."
September 10th, 2001 "Will the United States be attacked by forgien terrorists?"
I doubt anyone would have said "Yes."
Maybe that is why. To me, at the time, terrorism was something that happened in the Middle-East (far away) or maybe Ireland/Europe, but those attacks were rapidly becoming few and far between.

Today at school, sets of flags for each fallen victim line the quad lawn. All I could do was hope that their families have found some sort of resolve over these past years. My heart goes out to them.

i heard that there\'s going to be, i guess, a reenactment of the attacks today in NYC at ground zero. i think i heard that Bush is going to be there too.
no "reenactment" (thank god) just the reading of the names and moments of silence at the times of impact and collapse.
In Virginia, a memorial to the 184 people who died at the Pentagon and American Flight 77 is being dedicated this morning.
President George Bush will preside over the opening of the memorial in Arlington. It features 184 benches, each bearing the name of one of the victims.
it would be funny having Bush reenact his reading a storybook to a bunch of kids at Ground Zero. the families would probably lynch him
wow...so it was early in the morning when i was half-assedly listening to the radio. and i thought it sounded a little weird when i thought i heard them say reenactment of the attack. kinda did the wah!?!?!?! thing...fo rizzle

I\'m not sure what 9/11 means to everybody seven years later, but it\'s still worth noting.
It\'s one of those things that we\'ll take with us for the rest of our lives. All of us are going to have a brief moment of recognition (be it a moment of sadness, anger, or whatever) whenever somebody says "September 11", in any context.
