Apparently I need to go back and listen to the early versions of Metropolis. I didn\'t even notice a change.

The River St. show from August. It\'s a little rough right at the end but they\'ve nailed it ever since.

I agree.
ToT year(n) should be songs played from ToT year(n-1) to time of posting of offical ToT thread.
well if that\'s the case, then go team Gladys!
^^I agree with Stef, the Gladys on NYE was an absolute MONSTER!

Every year the songs are the same...and by that I mean there are only going to be 5 or 6 songs that have the potential to win...and one of them will win every year.
I\'d say no. Way too much bias involved in my opinion.
yea, no one would vote for a show they weren\'t at and a bunch of epic shows (like the "best we\'ve ever played" show) were not heard by anyone on here.

Simple solution.
Write all the song titles down on a piece of paper. Put all written down song titles into hat or large bowl. Shake said container of choosing. Pick one piece of paper out of container. Read the piece of paper with the written song title on it aloud. Proclaim that the 2008 ToT winner.
Here is to the even probability of Vera Street winning.

It has been in the summer in the past, but it really should be held in January 2009. Otherwise, the last half of the year gets left out.
On a related note, should those of us using the "how good the song has been this year" philosophy be including the part of the 2007 that came after the ToT?
Good point.
Although this year is different than most.. Naturally I\'m only taking versions with all four current members into account.
And yes, I agree January of \'09 would be proper.

i\'ve got pubes.
as the first person to ever listen to Hard Luck Harry, i\'m going to have to vote for the message on this one.
but seriously, i am severely dissapointed in Mooboo\'s lack of game time and might have to go with HLH this year. I mean, the argument will always be: "my favorite breakfast song" vs "the song that has raged the hardest this year"
in this second category we see hard hitters like eppy 2, eppy 3, OE, Gladys, Sundance, etc really fall short in 2008. hard luck, queeb, roofies, and several of the new tunes have really been forces to be reckoned with.
in conclusion: HLH vs Buquebus

Well, it certainly qualifies for .info geekdom of the highest order ever. Listen to a Breakfast jam you linked to from .info while setting a high score in the .info arcade, then make a post about doing all that. That\'s ser geekdom.
As much as I love Harry...go team OE! I like to think I helped drive the drain that drove OE to the TOT Championship as a 5 seed in its first year. If I listened to OE and played Monkey Cliff Diving I might qualify for a World Wildlife Fund recognition award because I would save so many monkeys.

The Sound will need to make a big splash in the next three months to even enter this discussion. At the moment, it\'s definitely on my short list for 2009, though.
The real "problem" here is that so many good songs debuted in a short period of time, that none of them racked up a ton of dominant performances. For example, for every sick version of Metropolis, there is a Rush out there to match if not top it.

queeb is probably the closet competitor. The two best versions of the year (canton and sterling) were not even recorded either. if they were who knows.
mayfly has also been kickin and very expansive all year.
OE has deffinitly been solid but last year was its year and it got trumped by mooboos
Tunage was once on top of the heap but it lost a lot of steam since the VJ incident. yea it is back but it took a major major hit there
So the top seeds are def
1. HLH 2. Queeb. 3. OE 4. Tunage/Mayfly
in that order
but HLH takes the cake.

I think since I started voting in TOT\'s my final picks have been Mooboo\'s, Buquebus and OE... this year will certainly be HLH, that is of course if it makes it to the finals.

im gonna stick to my roots here and stay team queeb
the heavily overlooked daniel st version in jamuary is in my top 3, with my favorite first part jam of all time, and it was chris 1st queeb! kinetic enough said electric company was top notch the pennsylvania show a few weeks back one of the best all time buffalo one they just played was easily in my top 5 all time, maybe top 3

The Iron Horse HLH is def amazing.
But I think I\'m going to have to jump on the OE bandwagon here, just for sake of competition.
TEAM OE!

Tunage is Final 4 material fo sho. My Final Four would look like:
1.HLH 2.OE 3.Buquebus 4.Tunage
Cool thing about Tunage is that someone bitched about the vocal jams being overused and pulling away from its epicness, others (including myself) agreed to the weak sauce brought on by the vocal jams, and the band simply stopped wasting time on their mics during Tunage jams. This has happened with other tunes (I can\'t recall anything specific off the top of my head) and it\'s **** nuts, to me, that my favorite band actually listens to the fanbase. Now THAT is awesome.

Tunage started the year strong and still has a chance to make a comeback. And don\'t sleep on May Fly. One more monster at a big show, and the slipper may finally fit this year.
But I don\'t want to be a newb, so I\'m just going to vote for Hard Luck, the only song with the Burger Time stamp of approval.

1st "Space Oddity" = cover. 2nd this is 2008. 3rd you\'re wrong..... imo.

the number of times you can listen to it and not only not have it get old, but still amaze the **** out you time and time again and appreciate on new levels every time is pretty unprecedented.
but listen to some other versions too!!!!!
they may not touch IHLH (nothing really does though) but many of them blow away the majority of other songs jams produced by bfast in 2008
HLH is the song of the year.
2008 TOT champ or the whole thing is a sham
The point spread on votes in the final round is like 50 too.
Its just head and shoulders above everything else.

I am starting the lobbying now because if anything else wins it will be a **** disgrace.
It has been the best played song of 2008 hands down.
Forget about the iron horse version for a minute.
Listen to any other version they are almost all amazing. Many are epic. None disappoint.
They all wicked rageable, tasteful, experimental, etc. Everything that makes bfast jams great
here is some of them...pretty sure there is more out there too..
now wait for the TOT to begin and when it does vote with confidence and know that HLH is destined to be the champ

A little birdie just pointed out that I forgot about the expertly composed beginning, I was just thinking about the section with lyrics. But I guess you still get what I was saying about the difference between a great song and a great jumping off point for a jam.

This thread and the current "Future Peek" thread raise a good point (tangentially) about the difference between a good song and a good jam vehicle.
For example: To me, Rufus is just a good song, but a great jam vehicle. The jam is tacked on to the end of the composed portion and could conceivably come in the middle of Great Big Fiery Ball or Beef Barley or anything else, and Rufus gets more credit than it is due as a song because of this. Metropolis, on the other hand, is very well composed AND is a great jumping off point for jamming.
Of course, the specific examples are all based on opinion, but I hope that at least clears up what I\'m trying to say about the difference between a good song and good jam vehicle.

I gotta vote HLH all the way unless they do something better than noho by the years end which they prolly will. but still thats been the best jam of the year hands down and there have been lots of other really good versions as well.
Honestly I dont even care if its HLH that goes all the way but if everyone just ignores what they have done in 2008 and votes mooboos again cuz "its like ....the most classic breakfast song ever brah" I am never gonna log onto dot hagfo ever again.
anyway...OE almost took it down last year. Dont see that happening again. I expect a strong showing from Ep 2 as per, queeb, team tunage, syn or maybe rush, and thats prolly your top 5 right there.
but one monster version of any song could change everything
deffinite first round K.O. for the mehssage. Ill take that bet anyday.

I foresee the message going down in round 1. It will prob be up against queeb or something... no shot.
i don\'t see mayfly getting past the swet 16... nothing has been too exceptional that i can remember.
that daniel st. tunage will bring the song to the final four, as well as the camp creek OE.
Synergy has a shot... a couple more HUGE ones and it has final four potential.
Rush has a lot of potenital. A lot.
Metropolis and IAQ have got to prove something.

I have no idea what the plans are for the 2008 Tournament of Tunes, but I figured it\'s never too early to start the bitching, song bashing and shameless lobbying.
Perhaps the most interesting part of the 2008 ToT will be the songs that ARE NOT present. Correct me if I\'m wrong, but, to preserve the purpose of the tournament, the brackets should only be composed of songs that the band has played in 2008 (which, in case, means songs that the current line-up has played). If this is true, then there are currently only 49 originals to choose from.
While 15 of last year\'s 16 are still around (all except Sundance), potential first-round spoilers Drunk Monk Bar, Attraction to Shade Ditty, Intension, Superfly Phaddy Fat and Wild Pack of Asscracks are currently on the shelf.
Among the new tunes, which always do well because we all collectively tend to get infatuated by new songs, Synergy is clearly poised to make the biggest splash, with divisive tunes like Living Daylights and Reel Time getting a chance to state their cases.
Of course, all it takes is one epic bust-out to change all of this, but it will certainly be fun (and, more importantly, time-consuming) to discuss what is currently ahead of us.
