Isn\'t it about time to wrap this thread up?
Why wasn\'t the mooboo\'s from 3/22 ever mentioned?
-
I will second the syn and grav. Cant remember the puppetry well enough. that syn may be the best ever, its maybe not as epic sound as utica but its tighter and more driven.
I will also nominate rufus and OE from NYE
-
12-26 Synergy
12-27 Puppetry
12-31 Gravity
-
See the Light, Wheelhouse, 2-28
-
Glad I could help...
My opinion is, of course, no reflection on Stoops. I\'m sure if (it\'s still if, right?) Todd joined the band, they would sound like "The Breakfast Quartet" again after a couple weeks of practice and seven or eight shows. But right now, anybody except for Sequoia or Matt would sound like the fourth wheel on this solid, musical tricycle.
-
^^
1st person who publicly agrees with me on that.
-
OE from higher ground is right up there with the noho hlh. unfuckingreal, brah
I just listened to it again cuz I was thinking, whatchu talkin about chief?
Strikes me as a standard issue OE. Last one played at Iron Horse 2008-04-18 dominates it in every way.
I agree... Stoops played the song very competently, but didn\'t have the familiarity with the song to really elevate it. That whole show (the only one I\'ve heard from the Freakout run) sounds like the Breakfast Trio + keyboards, not the Breakfast proper.

it is synergy, and i think klout is refering to the utica one
i was underwhelmed.
synergy gets fluffed here for some reason

the lights went down, and when they came back on adrian\'s smurf yet was nowhere to be seen and his hair was flying everywhere... that\'s when i knew that he and the rest of the band were raging as hard as they possibly could. gets my vote.

Beef Barley 9-12-08 Wormtown (some SER under the radar type II action right here)
Hard Luck Harry 8-14-08 River Street Jazz Cafe-Wilkes Barre, PA (the whole jam is FIERCE and the 9-12 minutes mark is seriously some the most tasteful playing I have ever heard from this band)
side note - utica syn is still the fuckin bomb. right there with noho HLH. show me a more epic sounding jam than minutes 8-13 of this track. I dare you.
and the noho HLH is still the best overall jam this band has ever played. HANDS DOWN.
I thank god I was there to witness it with my Bsisters and Bbrothers
-
yep the jam into hlh is absurd. just read your post the second they ended it and went into harry. crazy fucker
-
I agree it is great but definitely not the top 2, maybe, and this a far stretch, it is #3.
-
Sully\'s Rufus was something else for sure...
But upon relistening to this show a few times, the Hard Luck Harry (including the lead-in jam) is really something else. Dangle\'s bass groove gets so nasty for a while. A lot different than the Iron Horse HLH but I think the band broke some new ground at Sullys.
-
well if there are multiple disagreers we will pick straws or something. you didnt even answer the question space
-
are we jousting on bikes?
-
i would like to take the chance to nominate sully\'s rufus
this jam destroys everything but the iron hlh. generic rufus my **** brown eye. this is without a doubt the second or the best jam of the year. i will joust whoever disagrees
-
The Nominees...
Puppetry - 2/7/08 - River Street Jazz Cafe - Wilkes Barre, PA
Buquebus (1st Jam) – 4/4/08 – Kinetic Playground – Chicago, IL
Honey Butter - 4/10/08 - Winston\'s - San Diego, CA
Hard Luck Harry - 4/18/08 - Iron Horse Music Hall - Northampton, MA
Mooboo\'s Voodoo (Episode 2) (1st jam) - 4/24/2008 - The Stone Church - New Market, NH
Over Exposure - 5/25/08 - Strange Creek Camp Out - Greenfield, MA
Synergy - 6/13/08 - The Electric Company - Utica, NY
Tunage - 8/15/08 - Daniel Street - Milford, CT
Rust - 9/05/08 - Sully\'s - Hartford, CT
What the Funk - 9/18/08 - The Big Easy - Portland, ME
-
What The Funk [2008-09-18]
-
the sullys rust is straight up magical. if iron horse HLH was not so sick this would easily be the gnarliest jam I have heard from this band. the last 7 to 8 minutes of this jam could match anything on the shut up play yer guitar disks except pink napkins, imo. never heard the band get so grimey, as far as i can recall
-
^^^
Absolutely.... it seemed like the timing and vocals had also been smoothed out since the last time I have seen Rust.
But still, reality check, 9/14/07 still rules ;)
Oh yeah and the Electric Company May Fly a few weeks before that.
Iron Horse HLH gets my vote for best jam with Chris
-
no way denying sully\'s had the grimiest rust ever played. the jam is absolutely gorgeous.
-
i can\'t believe TGBFBITS is missing this. whre you at kiiiiid. and what about BGE?
ps sully\'s rufus was pretty experimental, tasteful, tight, rageable, and EPIC. if these are the criteria then:shrug:
BGE = Overrated
ps sully\'s rufus was pretty experimental, tasteful, tight, rageable, and EPIC compared to other recent (talkin since early \'07) Rufus-es-es, but compared to plenty o\' barrels it\'s just a central taint toucher.

i would like to take the chance to nominate sully\'s rufus
:that: you beat me to it
After the last chorus there\'s +3 minutes (7:23 - 11:06) of virtually nothing. The real jam doesn\'t even get going until 15:36. After that it\'s not a whole lot different than any other Rufus jam from this year. Sure, it builds up fast and keeps pace but you can get the same from any Over Exposure jam. Nothing about it is unique, at least in the sense to be included in this list.
I agree. It\'s good, buuut...
And we\'ve officially stumbled upon the reason why this thread is kind of lame...
shouldn\'t this all be posted in the "jealous we missed sully\'s" thread ? !

the rush from crystal bay should be tossed in the discussion, though there\'s no way it will beat out most of the ones listed already. but, it was damn fine and worthy of another listen....
-
it\'s too late to \'pologize
-
you could just delete the post too if it made no sense in here
-
i have no suggestions, but i think Jam>\'s should certainly be considered and allowed into the voting
That\'s tough though, because every jam is different, and not a consistent \'tune\'. I dunno, it\'s up to the judges i guess.
oops, thought this was the TOT thread. please disregard.

That Tunage from D-Street was very very good. I remember the Gravity from this show being amazing too...haven\'t listened back yet.
-
gabo wtf u smokin nah kad... freakin NTL.
-
basically, a jam based around one or a few epic timmy riffs (utica synergy, kinetic queeb, iron horse HLH, etc) is the main list of best jams of the year. right ? lets rate a jam where everyone really kicks ass equally, or an epic riff/bass line/drum beat that takes the jam away
Maybe you could open up the discussion with an example....?
i ruv u poophead
hopefully an example will come this friday. get real na kaad

so your saying the first jam of the second set?
Jam - opening of first set, before the first of 10 million times synergy was sandwiched that night.

Lets keep this discussion going and at the end of the year we can make a pole, vote on it and crown one King of 2008.
Recorded jams only.
I will eventually erase this info and just leave this first post as an official tally of all the nominations for organizational purposes.
This is the current list of nominees minus a few more that I will add later...
Current Nominees...
Buquebus (1st Jam) ? 4/4/2008 ? Kinetic Playground ? Chicago, IL

-
As starter of this thread I reserve the right to deny any nomination request at any time without explanation :hand: :P
and, as usual, klout\'s thread is an "official" thread
