I tried to listen to it, but I\'m anal about music.  I can\'t even stand music at clubs.  I\'ve tried to ignore it, but I\'ve realized that if I\'m out somewhere there is music and I don\'t like the music, it dictates my mood for the whole time out.

I\'ve played the album for a couple of people that usually can\'t stand the music I listen to and they really liked it.  For me, it is a great bridge.  I think you can\'t take this music too seriously or give it a serious music critique because the substance just isn\'t there.

Turn your brain off, bob your head, and bust a move.  Last year it was a perfect warm-up set for the Biscuits @ camp.

Am I the only one that kept skipping to the next song trying to find something that I liked???

The guy has talent, there no disputing that, but I can\'t stand DJs and rap music (unless it\'s really early rap).

freddie, you can sample a couple of seconds of anything without getting authorization or paying for it, but I agree, I don\'t think it\'s as long as these guys use it for. I\'m sure somewhere there is a lawyer that filled out the fine print to make it happen.

dont get me wrong, the mixture of **** he mashes up is sick,i just dont see how it could be considered legal.guess its a technicality.

Guess I\'ll pick up this album what with all of the hype.

I will say I am going to have a hard time giving it an unbiased listen after hearing NR. The thing is, I find this stuff pretty unpleasant to listen to because he doesn\'t really ever create a good groove. With all of the constant changing, it starts to sound ugly to me. I wish he\'s let things roll a little longer, make it a little smoother, more danceable. This holds true for a lot of mashup djs. Not to mention, I can\'t stand a lot of the rap stuff he uses. I like the classic rock and some of the pop stuff thrown in, but some of that rap is god-awful.

I would still rather listen to something like 2 many djs, with all of the classic dance stuff mixed with pop, hip-hop, etc etc... 2 many djs I can actually get down to. Maybe it\'s not as technically impressive, but it\'s a lot nicer on the earholes.

its good the first 25 times you hear it then it gets old as ****,imo.
i have no idea how he gets away with what hes doing,on a sidenote..

I freaking love the first few tracks, but the album kinda goes downhill after the fifth or sixth track imo. As with NR there is too much glitchy chorusy stuff (most of the second half) and not enough  of the gangster ass parts that have the good lyrics over dope beats mixed in with some well known pop with great mixing and combinations and switch ups(mostly the first half). the parts with cassidy, juvi, jigga>mary J, lil wayne, eminem, luda, c.r.e.a.m to HYHU, tag team, no diggity etc are SICK remixes. Some really epic combos. There\'s a few more highlights here and there but mixed in with a lot of obscure chorusy glitchy meh that gets boring kinda quick. still love the flashy parts tho. got mah drink n mah two step. mah drink and mah two step.

yeah the new girl talk album is great, i dont think it\'s as good as NR, but with only a few listens i could change my mind

BUT if you people like girl talk check out audiobytes for autobots

http://audiobytes.net/download.html

the album is free there, and the samples are amazing, like elliot smith, nin, and a host of other ****, that rocks, though the production isnt as good as GT

Night Ripper pretty much introduced me to all the hip hop/rap that was popular circa 2003/2004ish.... all i knew from that album is the rock/classic rock samples and now i can sing all the raps verbatim.

the first few times i heard girl talk i was NOT impressed; in fact, i went to camp bisco last year with every intention to skip the set.... however, the set was SO incredible that i was convinced..... Juicy with Tiny Dancer had something do with that...

sure it may not be the most "original" but i really think the songs he chooses are pretty creative at the very least... maybe give it a few more spins, and don\'t think of it as just samples all mashed together, listen to it as something new of its own, like, recycled music ...?

so do you kinda have to like mainstream rap and pop to get into this?

so i downloaded this to give it a chance, and i gotta say, i don\'t see what all the hype is about. my assumption that you have to like mainstream rap to get into it is correct as far as i can tell. and in my *very* humble opinion (;)) mainstream rap is a pisspoor excuse for music and mixing together a shitton of samples to create beats with other peoples raps thrown in on top and what not is not my idea of quality origional music.
I wouldn\'t say you have to LIKE mainstream hip-hop, but it certainly helps to KNOW and NOT DESPISE it. Just this guy\'s equally as humble opinion.

Better choice of classics and a better job of melding them with the raps. so many cool combinations in there.

finally got some quality time with the album.... wouldn\'t put it past night ripper quite yet.... BUT it\'s pretty wild... and im diggin it more and more with repeated plays, which is a trait i love in albums...

i wish i kept track of how many times i\'ve hit the "rewind" button while listening

the download was a pain in the balls to figure out. What I finally got was there were tons of seperate windows it keeps opening up on you, but go back to the first one. The first window will have the download link in it.

if you\'re paying. Don\'t know how it works for those of you in the music industry who don\'t value music made from sampling. ;)

I\'ve listened 2.5 times since yesterday when I got it. loveit.

some of the choices when electing not to pay for the download are hillarious:

I may donate later
I can\'t afford to pay
I don\'t really like Girl Talk
I don\'t believe in paying for music
I have already purchased this album
I don\'t value music made from sampling
I am part of the press, radio, or music industry
Other reasons

kind of a cool set up though

but the download isnt working for me

psssh. anyone who says GT is "just another mashup dj" has never listened to GT.

psssh yo self foo\'

I said it and I have known about and listened to girl talk long before he started to blow up in the jambad/festy scene.  His first two albums are so glitched out and staticy  its impossible to listen to for more than five minutes.  Night ripper is a a lot better though and I do enjoy listening to it. I\'m gonna peep the new one in a few and lookin forward to it.

Quote from: davepeck;193695
please point me in the direction of a DJ (which, by the way, by definition, GT is not) who can do the mashup thing and keep it going for 40-50+ minutes straight without getting boring.

diplo, bassnectar, glitch mob, 2 many DJ\'s, DJ Z-trip, DJ Shadow, RJD2, and dozens of other undergound hip hop DJ\'s I don\'t even know the name of.  They can all throw it down, how fast they get boring depends on the DJ, the listener, the atmosphere etc. I don\'t go out of my way to see these type of acts live but  I\'ve caught lots of acts as ill or iller than GT that held my interest just at random post show or other parties or festivals etc.

GT has his own style that is somewhat unique, he\'s somewhat of an innovator, he can obviously rock the party, he samples tons of songs, it\'s poppy, it\'s glitchy, it makes you want to dance, I get it......end of the day... he is just another mashup DJ.

dismissin\' without a listen, eh joce? didn\'t think you\'d be the type.

anyways, Feed The Animals is **** fantastic. gave it 2 full listens yesterday. it is most definitely Night Ripper II, and that is a wonderful thing. it\'s what GT does best, imo. i\'m psyched because a LOT of things from his SummerCamp set made it onto the album, so i\'ve actually been previewing some of the album for a few weeks without even knowing it. my favorite part of the SC set made it on there too (possibly my favorite part of the album) - Cassidy\'s "My Drink n My Two Step" vs. Ace Of Base\'s "All That She Wants", though i like it better on the SC set because there\'s a little reprise there.

the Feed The Animals wiki entry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feed_The_Animals) is already huge. wow.

it\'s absolutely insane how many songs he samples. my biggest surprise was Vanilla Ice\'s "Havin\' A Roni", which i actually recognized right away on first listen. damn.

this will be getting a LOT of play. NR2 is exactly what i wanted, and GT delivered.

My fourth full-length album, Feed The Animals, is out today! You can download the digital version (320 Kpbs) for whatever price you want at: http://www.illegalart.net. If you are reading this prior to 7:00 AM eastern USA time, then the page may not be ready. We\'re fine-tuning some last minute things. If you pay over $5, you get an added bonus of one big mp3 file with all of the tracks connected. If you pay over $10, then you are pre-ordering a physical copy of the CD, which will be out later. All of the tracks are streaming here, but the album is intended to be listened as one continuous track. This can be easily accomplished by getting the mp3s from Illegal Art, thanks for your support!

gladly shelling out $10. downloading now!

If you\'d been putting together an iTunes playlist for a big party this weekend, be sure to leave a good bit of space on it. After a few final listens just to make sure everything\'s as it should be, Gregg Gillis-- aka mainstream-mining maximalist mashupper Girl Talk-- will release his fourth LP, Feed the Animals, via the Illegal Art label site. Gillis expects the album to hit the web "Wednesday or Thursday" of this week, with a physical release to follow. (The CD is due on Illegal Art, while the vinyl will be handled by Wham City.)

We spoke with Gillis late last week, two days after he finished work on the album\'s tracks. Mastering work on the LP had just begun. We talked about the how much things have changed for him in the two years since his breakthrough, Night Ripper, the relationship between his ever-evolving live show and his albums, and the proper way to turn "Hollaback Girl" into an enduring classic. [But it already IS an enduring classic! -- Ed.]

Pitchfork: Why did you opt to release the album this way, with a rushed "Radiohead-style" digital release, followed by the physical product at a later date?

Gregg Gilllis: First of all, there\'s a lot of current pop and hip-hop sampled on the album, and I wanted to get it out there as soon as possible. Unlike when Night Ripper came out, I have an actual fan base who\'s ready to hear it. I remember when we were doing Night Ripper, we were trying to rush it out and it wasn\'t really a big deal, because when it actually came out people still didn\'t know about it \'til maybe a few months later. So for this one, I feel like I\'m in a fairly lucky situation to have people who want to hear it already before even hearing it. That much is a rare thing in my career so far. I think what we went for seems like an obvious game plan now, just because as soon as it hits the internet, anyone who reads the internet can get it for free if they want to. So why not tap in and let them actually take a step back and think about it, and maybe offer some money? It seemed to make sense, especially because kids who listen to my music are probably fairly attached to the internet and can get it for free if they actually want to.

Pitchfork: Have you settled on a date for when it\'s going live?

GG: Pretty much as soon as possible. I finished it Tuesday night (June 10), and the guy who has mastered all my albums is starting the mastering process today. He promised me he\'d be done by Monday, so that would give me maybe a couple days to listen to it, but I imagine it will be on the internet by Wednesday or Thursday [June 18 or 19].

bring it!!! gonna make for some fun rides to and from new jersey the next 2 days!!!
