tunage report please?
Pretty mighty... but to me the whole show was epic to the point that it didn\'t stand out as much as usual. The highlight of the first set was pretty much the ENTIRE first set. I\'m sure it\'s not shocking to hear that Rufus owned the second set.

It was supposed to be "Rufus > Cult of Personality" and then a "Price Is Right > What the Funk" encore. Would have been great, but I\'m not complaining about what went down.

Nice job there!!  did you get in there before Rufus? forgot you came from PJ..well done.

There was a good crowd and  energy. classy place and a good girl to guy ratio. they blew out the sets they played and left it all on the \'stage\'. STL= awesome. Enjoyed the new tunes and almost felt like i picked up where i left off in Utica!.. Goodnight!!

whatever youre just drunk aruny

Say\'s who?

Even if he shows, none of us will probably recognize Jeffrey "Patrick \'Paul Allen\' Bateman" D. 2.0.  Just be weary if some stranger invites you back to their place to listen to Huey Lewis and the News, or Whitney Houston \'cause you may find yourself running naked down a hallway being chased by a chainsaw weilding maniac.

you crack me up...that is my fave book ever! but i will not hold my breath for a spacey sighting...he texted me that he would be out on wednesday...and he wasnt...he is just a teaser...

We played the Field last night (Me, Ron, Jacob and Caitlin)  Great little room.  Not a big space but it got very crowded with their own people.  It was nice to play a place that didn\'t rely totally on the band to bring people.  The Breakfast should definitely score some new fans on Friday.

Can I ask why the Breakfast fans only show up when the band is playing??

Since the breakfast is playing there, you know you\'re going to be spending 2 - 3 hours there. I like to have a little variety in the bartenders I tip, the people I see and the urinals I overflow.

Quote from: Kaliguitar;193340
If there\'s no cover and the place is basically taking money out of their own pocket to pay the band then why wouldn\'t you want to support the place so they\'ll hire them back again?  Also, it always amazes me that people will spend their money at other places in New Haven and then just show up at Toad\'s for the show.  The way these places stay open is mostly from the bar profit so why not help out places that support the band.

I remember going to breakfast shows when they were opening and leaving before the headliner, because they are the band that I want to see.  At the GTB show last week, there was totally a different crowd in that place for the openers then for the Boys.  Sure, some hung out for the whole night, but there was a whole crew of people that left, then a new crew that showed up.  Toad\'s is almost like a musical restaurant, 3 seatings per night.

Quote from: Kaliguitar;193340
Plus....why does it seem that B fans don\'t support other bands.  Wouldn\'t it be the cool thing to show up and support all the bands on a bill?  It\'s not like you\'re "cheating" on the them by checking out some other music.  I\'ve always wondered that.

My local band plate is full brah.  Between the Breakfast, all the assorted side projects (including Kaitlin), I often find that I don\'t have the money to see the national acts when they come to town.

I think t(he)y would be down to drink some beers after the show.  I don\'t know where you were going with that one Zuke.  I guess you and me have different ideas of what late-night is all about.

i just mean that if i were choosing someone to host a breakfast pre/post game, i wouldn\'t pick somebody who has HUGE issues with people having pot anywhere near my property...that\'s just me though

oh yeah and toad\'s is super shitty...i would never be there if it weren\'t for the ~3 hours the breakfast play there every couple months

I understand your point, but drinking in Fairfield is expensive.  If I have a place to chill at before the show where I can get the same social satisfaction with a group of my friends for a smaller price tag, that will most likely be the choice.  As far as other bars in fairfield though, The Field is probably just as good if not better than the rest of them.  I generally will not spend much time in FFLD bars.

I\'m sorry, but Toad\'s is awful.  I want to spend as little time possible there.  In New Haven there are *SO MANY* more places i would rather spend my time than that shitty club.  Maybe i\'m alone here, but I only spend so much time in New Haven these days and I would much rather spend my time elsewhere.  Maybe if they had some good pre show drink specials or gave me a reason to spend more time there it would be a different story.

1) toad\'s has a shitty beer selection
2) toad\'s has an expensive beer selection
3) toad\'s doesn\'t serve food and we\'d like to eat before spending too much money on shitty beers so we don\'t puke
4) we\'d like to talk to our friends before a show instead of yelling over an opening band
5) some people like to pre-game in different ways if you catch my drift

to be honest though, most of the time i can\'t get down there until showtime anyways, so the point is moot.  i check out opening bands when i can

Even if you live in the wilds of the Yukon, there?ll be at least one shitty local band and at least fifty idiots who turn up at all their gigs and nod along to the music (the ?beers in both hands? dance). In larger towns, there will be dozens of shitty local bands, and the scene will be bolstered by all the members of the shitty local bands turning up to see all the other shitty local bands when they play shitty local gigs. The local scene idiots will be at every show, fervently yelling out requests for songs that only members of their pathetic little stratum will ever hear. Coming from a small and sceneless town, I?ve experienced firsthand the horror of a primordial music scene oozing out of an extremely shallow pool of talent, and it?s a horrific, Cronenbergesque sight. The teenagers in this dead-end town, with no outlet for being hip, were forced to wrangle their sensibilities into enjoying some truly horrific music.
Local Scene Idiots are only cool to each other. If they go two towns over, they won?t get much mileage out of knowing all the members of Butt Attack personally, because Butt Attack?s rusty van can?t make it that far afield without overheating. In minor markets, local scene idiots can never rise above ?big fish/small pond status,? but that?s enough for them. ?Someday,? they tragically think, ?when Butt Attack gets huge, I?m going to say I knew them when.?

Musical Taste: Butt Attack.

How to Tame a Local Scene Idiot: Just start a band. It doesn?t matter how god-awful it is. The local scene idiots will be clamoring to interview you for their ?zine or their pirate radio show before you can say Jack Robinson. Either that, or just be bored enough to go to some terrible local shows. After you lower yourself to attending a few, your scene idiot friend will call you up whenever some miserable local event is happening.

Benefits of Friendship: They?ll get you out of the house. Even if they bands they love are crap, even if the local clubs are terrible, and even if the house parties they drag you to are lame, they?ll get you out of the house, and you?ll always love them for it.

Drawbacks of Friendship: When you?ve seen every band in your town fifty times and they?ve shown no signs of improvement, you might begin to curse your local scene idiot friend for dragging you out of the house when you could have been watching Hard Copy in your underwear.

there are a couple places within walking distance that would cool to go...ash creek would prolly be the best bet...they have their own brew from magic hat....called ash something i forget but it was in play mag this week with a little write up about the black rock area...

Can I ask why the Breakfast fans only show up when the band is playing??  If there\'s no cover and the place is basically taking money out of their own pocket to pay the band then why wouldn\'t you want to support the place so they\'ll hire them back again?  Also, it always amazes me that people will spend their money at other places in New Haven and then just show up at Toad\'s for the show.  The way these places stay open is mostly from the bar profit so why not help out places that support the band.
Plus....why does it seem that B fans don\'t support other bands.  Wouldn\'t it be the cool thing to show up and support all the bands on a bill?  It\'s not like you\'re "cheating" on the them by checking out some other music.  I\'ve always wondered that.

I think t(he)y would be down to drink some beers after the show.  I don\'t know where you were going with that one Zuke.  I guess you and me have different ideas of what late-night is all about.

they should play a death metal parody version entitled "living on a slayer" with tpalms finger tapping and sweeping through the whole thing... adrian on vox... chris and matt both on guitar... and lets of headbanging.

sorry, yeah this discussion should be over

Personally, i\'d like them to just play one long set if they are not going to go on until 11:30, but I would imagine they would take a short set break.  Maybe like 15 minutes or something.

Will their stage setup for a full ellis show?

No stage.  They are basically set up in the corner of the dance floor.  I would be surprised to see any lights.  Even when there is a live band, the restaurant caters to the bar crowd and not the music.  The house lights will most likely be on the entire show.

There will be a lot of people there to drink and socialize, not necessarily to see live music.  That being said, I hope the band can win over some new fans.

I was at The Field on Saturday and there was a very nice crowd in there for an average band, although I imagine no one was really there for the band.  I am very confident if just 15-20 Breakfast faithful show up it will be a *Great* turnout.  I am really looking forward to this.

who\'s jaime maclean?

Jamie McLean is most widely known as the guitarist for the New Orleans jazz, funk institution The Dirty Dozen Brass Band.

He has toured the world over playing for hundreds of thousands of people on stages such as Madison Square Garden, Shoreline Amphitheater, and Fuji Rock. He has recorded with everyone from Norah Jones to Dr. John and has performed with The Black Crowes, Widespread Panic, North Mississippi Allstars, Robert Randolph; among many others.

While the Dirty Dozen Brass Band groove is infectious and timeless, the sideman guitar slinger slot holds it\'s limitations. Having always been a songwriter, singer and front man, Jamie began to focus on his roots and in the early part of 2004 he formed his own group the Jamie McLean Band. Over the past year and a half Jamie\'s songwriting, filled with catchy hooks, beautiful lyrics and scorching guitar work has mingled with the soulful gumbo of the deep south and while The Jamie McLean Band is based in New York City, the influences of southern rock, blues, R&B and funk is unmistakable.

Jamie\'s music is rich with rock and roll, dirty blues, beautifully crafted original songwriting, and if Keith Richards and Van Morrison could have a bastard child this might be what he would sound like. Rolling Stones (Exile on Main St., Sticky Fingers era.), Black Crowes and the Allman Brothers are easy comparisons and while Jamie acknowledges these artists as influences, he is just as easily found dialing in Bob Dylan, Sting, Bruce Hornsby, Coldplay, or Eric Clapton on his iPod.

i would think an average band would be able to retain more regular people than a band like the breakfast. if people aren\'t h3tty enough, they\'re going to want to go somewhere else to hear their bon jovi/rolling stones/smashmouth covers

***UPDATE***

There is now an opening band playing:

10:30 - The Roamer
11:15 - The Breakfast

I was at The Field on Saturday and there was a very nice crowd in there for an average band, although I imagine no one was really there for the band.  I am very confident if just 15-20 Breakfast faithful show up it will be a *Great* turnout.  I am really looking forward to this.

Also, i see that Jamie McLean Band is playing the Saturday before (6/21) with COD.  That should be a lot of fun...i hear really good things about Jamie McLean (also will be at Camp Bisco)

I remember going out one night in Fairfield last year...we went to 3 different bars and each bar had a different cover band playing.  We heard "Living on a Prayer" 3 times that night and the crowd ate it up each time.

I hate "Living on a Prayer"

they should play it, just for that reason (but in some completely ridiclous musical style)

The field is basically right across the street from the acoustic cafe.  I have been in there on a busy Saturday and it can be PACKED!  I am very interested to see the turnout.  This could be a very good showing depending on how receptive the crowd is...i hope the band is working on their Bon Jovi covers ;)
