The ride to Crystal Bay was a lot of fun. We belted out Aerosmith, Weezer, and RHCP tunes, and got take some sweet pictures of the Rockies as we slowly climbed to about 7,000 feet elevation to Crystal Bay, right on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe. As Al checked in to the hotel, we chilled with some raccoons and made up crazy lyrics to substitute in Breakfast songs. It was pretty funny that our hotel, The Lake "Brah-hoe" Inn, was in California and the Crystal Bay Casino was in Nevada but I could hit the venue with a 3-wood from our hotel room. We wandered down to the shore of the Lake, trespassed on private property and took some pictures.
We got back to venue to see the coolest room I have ever seen the Breakfast in. I would say it had about the space of Higher Grounds smaller room, but with a way sicker sound and light system. Also it had round booths lining the outside of the room for people to chill in, and the back of the room was wide open to the Casino, so you could sit at a slot machine and watch the band at the same time if you wished. Wide Screen TV screens were stationed above each booth showing a live picture of the stage meshed with trippy effects. So awesome. After sound check, we all split up, some of us gambling and some of us gettin some dinner at the Casino\'s steak house, where I highly inluenced the set list. Muahaha.
Basically, this whole show was awesome. The playing was great, the sound was great, the crowd was timid for the first couple songs, but RUSH!!! was amazing and brought a slew of people to the front of the stage. The jam into Puppetry was a "Gotta change a string jam" by Adrian, Matt, and Chris, with Tim joining in the end and singing some Gladys Pimp lyrics before jumping into Puppetry.
Buquebus was sick to open the 2nd set and got the crowd totally stoked again. I was worried that 10 years gone might quiet things down too much, but the crowd LOVED it! Reel Time sounded Reel good, I think the band was happy to play it on a real sound system, with all the vocal stuff they\'ve been workin on. Taboo was funky and danceable and me, dave, mike, and al z got the crowd jumpin at the perfect jumpin section in Taboo. Scheme had been on the set list to close out the set after Taboo, but I pretty much new at the start of the 2nd set that they probably wouldn\'t get to it. And She Was happily finished off the show- pretty much the whole crowd had stayed til the end, which was fun, and everyone I talked to was drooling praise for the band they had never seen.
Late night was not to be for me, as we had to leave by 9 am to get me to the airport in Sacramento to fly to Savannah, GA to spend a week in Hilton Head, SC, where I am right now, reminiscing on an awesome three night run on the opposite side of the country.
So there it is, folks, a little review of my trip. I hope you enjoy! And I suggest seeing this band the next time they are at the Crown Room! Much thanks goes out to Leith and Al Z for their hospitality and generosity- BFam representing at it\'s finest! I\'ll post all my pic\'s when I get home!
ds numbers, if this place was totally packed it could hold several hundreds, but that is because it could spill out into the entire casino. Within the dance floor area, i think it would feel pretty full with maybe 250-300 people
