WoW! I am just know watching this weeks after it was posted I think and it is just as ridiculous as I remember it. I only with there was more of the conversation. I love how the Nigerian recognized you filming him and I like it was some sort of education documentary comforted him by saying its ok he is staying with me tonight. REDICKULOUS

i think gladys is the breakfasts most overrated song (bring on the bashing)...pretty much up until the fast portion where he sings "gladys pimp, and kangaroos with me" and then busts into the solo, the song before that is meh, i always find myself wating for it to get to the fast funk jam segment. the vocals are kinda annoying/senseless. on the upside, gladys jam segments are some of my favorite in the breakfast catalog.
Jordan\'s voice is sorely missed in Gladys, probably always will be. His gritty break down is what used to tie the first section together for me, made Tim\'s vocals make sense in a strange way. Now I definitely just tie the \'ol sneaks tight and fasten my belt \'til it hurts in preparation for the jam. The jam will always be one of their best no matter what they write in the future. Madison 11.11.05--Gladys on mush was INSANE. I\'ll never forget the things I saw... I guess what others didn\'t.

You northeasterners are just spoiled.. That was the best show I\'ve seen in my own backyard in a looong time. I understand your lack of enthusiasm compared to mine, serioulsy. I was on a high I don\'t get to experience as often as you guys, so my criticism-o-meter was turned way down and even listening to the recordings I think I have a different, more appreciative take on the show. However I\'m still backing this Buquebus as absolutely filthy.

its mounting a comeback but its not there yet. but i haven\'t seen it live in a long time though so it will probably be officially back in my book after that
Remember the ~38 minute second set opener at the Java Barn...
On a side note I wasn\'t impressed with this second set. The first one is where it\'s at. The Spunk was very solid though but the Reba needs to be far tighter if its going to remain in high rotation for covers. This Rufus doesn\'t go anywhere. I\'ll give the Buquebus another listen but, to me, it looked like all the energy was spent in the first set.
I wasnt all that impressed with the reba (jam was solid, but the composed section was no where near the naragansett show). I havent listened to the rufus yet, but I feel like a lot of the rufi lately have been somewhat lacking. That song was really really good in its embryonic stages in 2001-2002 era.

no thats not what i said at all actually.
Call it monster or whatever you want to.
I said I disagreed that:
a) buquebus is the greatest song of all time in the breakfast kingdom
b)the monster queebs have returned recently
to me the song right now is still nowhere near its old status in the pecking order even with recent versions.
its mounting a comeback but its not there yet. but i haven\'t seen it live in a long time though so it will probably be officially back in my book after that
understood from the start. however: "its a good queeb but..." seems to be saying what then?

Some thoughts from the TLG board. My post is the first one asking what up as they were silent the next day. "I\'m guessing The Breakfast kicked some ass last night? Not a peep from the bunch."
"They were **** awesome. Hadn\'t really listened to them before, and now gotta catch up. The guitarist is awesome, does some amazing **** on the guitar. Got a "Reba" which is always good.
Will absolutely see them everytime they come around."
"It was really good! The first set was mostly newer tunes, Reel Time and The World Needs Us started it off. The second set opened with Buquebus and all bets were off after that. As Erock mentioned, there was a Reba cover, I know Honey Butter closed. I knew most of the other tunes, but coming up with names right now is kind of futile. Kind of a blur of a night. I figured I needed to stop drinking when I went to the bar to get my "X"th Makers & Coke and the bartender told me that this one was on him. That\'s usually my sign to stop! lol Lots of fun, though. I did see one taper, but didn\'t get to talk to him, so I\'m not sure how/where/if the show will surface.
Crowd was a little sparse again, but much better then the last time through."
"The show is up on LMA. It was also cool to to talk to the bassist and drummer briefly"
I forgot about the Talking Heads cover. That was cool too!" _________________

yeah, i wiped it up pretty good. ;)
gordo/dannytriscuits, you guys rock. we had a blast. thanks a ton for the hospitality. we had quite the journey on the way back to the airport (blue line track construction), but we got there.
excellent show. many heavy hitters. buquebus and tribal were the standouts to me, with reba and rufus close behind. i don\'t think the wilson intro went over as well as anyone expected it to, but it was a cool idea.
random older black guy throwing dollar bills at chris during his bass solo = priceless.
regarding reba - the jam was incredible, but there were lyrical flubs, and the drum breakdown before the jam was flubbed. i think the guys should really brush up on the composed section, because they do such great things with the jam that it deserves to be played perfectly.
great to meet you rob, jeremy, and dannytriscuits, and great to see you gordo, rickey roux, and josh porter! we shall do this again.

Although I enjoy reel time and the world needs us I think they should have been spaced more. It was two slower songs back to back which did little to grab any non breakfast fans by the balls. I think they needed to come out with fingers flying.

I\'ve got to go with Gordo\'s review on this show. I will add that Reel Time, even though it was not jammed out, and World Needs Us, which was, to me, have been the two standouts among the new tunes (the only one I didn\'t see was Rush). A great night of music. Catching 4 shows in 8 days was utter bliss and will do it again if I have the dough. Still a little burnt out from the 800+ mile round trip drive to Minneapolis for the Trocaderos show (will post on that show soon). Gordo, Dave, Mike, Jeremy, Rob and Foo, glad you all made it out. Good times indeed. This band just continues to get better and better (how is this possible?).
Signed,
The Lucky Bastard

The first set was owned by the Tribal Soundwich. Slowed funk jam at the end of TFA was dirty (1st jam was pretty good, but certainly not the best I\'ve heard) but The Sound was the overall highlight, and their patient segue back into Tribal was flawless.
Not gonna lie-- I missed the Wilson intro. But whatever, I walked into the best Buquebus I\'ve ever heard. Both jams were incredible, the 2nd was as fluid as anything I\'ve heard the band play. Progressive, funky, and wholly danceable. I don\'t know what to say about the rest of the set, they didn\'t let up at all. Spunk was insanity, Chris\'s solo was soooooo tasty, and they just kept riding the heavy funk train that had the room in spins. After flubbing the very last beat to lead into the jam (everything before was perfect), Reba built mountains in Chicago. I was choked up. They pushed it further than anyone expected, just incredible peaks. I think they picked up the tempo at some point, a double-time section or something? I don\'t know, heavy ****. And Rufus was deliberately **** with people. To drop that bomb after an already huge set was silly. Once again-- FLUID. They tapped into something really special in this set, I\'m confident y\'all will feel the same when you get a chance to hear it.
Crowd anywhere from 65-100 people at a given time.. I\'m really unsure of its peak, could\'ve been more than a hundred. I was also there with 17 people. Regardless, it was a very happy crowd, a great atmosphere.
Good times Ricky Roux. Dave and Mike-- class acts. helluvahat deflated his blow-up mattress/folded his blanket; Dave didn\'t leave any Spunk on my roommates bed before making it.
Great night in Chicago.
btw, they had 5 cameras recording the show.
