I still don\'t get the Wilco hype, though I will admit my familiarity with them is not up to par.

anyone else going to see them up in Lowell MA in a couple weeks?

Me! :)    I paid for those pre-bbq tickets too, just for the hell of it.

I am hoping they can top Tanglewood last year, but it would be really hard.  I hold that show up in like my top 5 concert experiences of all time....so i am really pumped for lowell.

the new album hasnt grown on me yet and ive kinda given up,honestly.

i finally got my hands on it.  you see, i am into it.  its waaaay the most mellow thing they\'ve ever put out.  And right now in my life, thats what I need.  So i am feeling it.

wow. totally missed the posts/news about Jay Bennett in late May.  So unfortunate and unexpected.  I kind of thought the lawsuit was part of a PR campaign for some project that he was part of and was about to get released.  A real shame, he definitely had a huge influence on everything that I love about Wilco.

definatly a huge creative force in wilco and though theyre great with Nels, bennetts influence will always be there. Too bad it happened during this law suit..thatll always add some suspicion.

According to news reports, Jay Bennett, the multi-instrumentalist and producer who was a part of the band Wilco for many years, has died. He was 45.

He died in his sleep, according to friend Edward Burch.

Bennett joined Wilco when the band toured for its first album, “A.M.” He and band leader Jeff Tweedy became a creative — and combustible — combination, combining forces for “Being There,” the band’s pop masterpiece “Summerteeth” and the challenging follow-up, “Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.”

But the pair was soon at odds, as detailed in the film “I Am Trying to Break Your Heart.” The Chicago Tribune’s Greg Kot, in a heartfelt appreciation, quotes Bennett as saying he wasn’t surprised. “I wasn’t blindsided. I saw it coming,” he said. “My enthusiasm had been waning, and apparently that was the case for the rest of the band, to

Bennett had recently sued Tweedy, claiming unpaid royalties for his music and his appearance in the movie.

The cause of death was not known. An autopsy was being performed, according to Burch.

probably for upperdeck though

Eh, Upperdeck.  I still think it may be worth it.   Good looking out on this....

I went to the Neil Young show last Monday at MSG.  Upper deck seats.  Not cheap.  But still Neil rocked the house.  I had to leave before midnight to catch a train, but he kept playing until after 12:30.

I was psyched to get to see Wilco, too.  I still don\'t get them though.  They\'re good and all, but to me, they don\'t live up to the hype.

dont give up.
listen to being there...

I\'ve been listening to Sky Blue Sky regularly for two weeks now. It\'s by far my favorite. Everyone is going to say "Being There" and "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" next, and I agree. But I don\'t think they\'re as good. I like Yankee as #2 personally.

OK, so I\'ve finally gotten on the Wilco train.  I picked up "Sky Blue Sky" (thanks to BillyShags, heard it in his car awhile back, and yourmusic.com) it finally showed up in my queue.  It took me a couple listens to really get into, but now I\'m hooked.

Alot of the album has a very Beatles-esq feel to it.

My main question is what should I get next, cause I\'m already jonesing for more.

<- still has not listened to ween much to the shagrin of elisa.

Ween Ownz faces.  If you haven\'t listened to them much I would recommend not listening to them at all, buying tickets to the next show in your area and getting right up in front.  That is, if you like face-melting guitar solos.

Yeah Ween is **** fantastic.. Best show I\'ve seen in a looooong time. They jumped to the #2 spot on my \'bands I can\'t wait to see next\' list.

Buy Quebec!!!

I hear ya, the hype alone makes me what the hate it, but it\'s actually not bad.

Someone tried to get me into Uncle Tupelo and Wilco many years ago, though I never listened to the disks at the time once I caught a description of the music.

So basically, to get all the Wilco hype, one has to listen to it around the clock in order to cultivate a love for it?

No, I just had to get past being super-critical and skeptical because of the hype. When I took the disc out and went about my business I realized that I sincerely wanted to listen more.

However I got into Ween some time 4-5 months ago and despite major hype I loved most of their stuff upon first listen.

So who knows? It\'s all in the grey area. I enjoy Wilco and am happy that I do now because there\'s plenty of unheard material.

I\'ve been listening to Kicking Television today.. It\'s great. Nels definitely adds so much, most obvious in Company in My Back. I like their live sound overall.

And Yankee Hotel has grown on me a ton, sang their tunes all night during work. I guess I\'m coming around to understanding people\'s love, I just don\'t see myself ever being as in love.
