Businesses drive the economy more than induviduals, I believe.

2/3 of all GDP spending is consumer spending.  However, without healthy businesses and reasonable employment levels, consumer spending takes a hit.  So it is all related.

(in the absence of a hill to coast down) in order get the wheels on a bike moving, you need to pedal.

i mean thats a little excessive as i look at it the 75,000 cap was a fair one. do you really need or does it REALLY matter to you to get $500 if you make that much money a year. I\'d pocket the $100 difference than to give more loot to people who really don\'t need it. but i\'ll give it up if that money is only going to the elderly and/or veterans.

I agree- kind of. I don\'t really think that given that 100 to a million indaviaduals will make much difference. I would rather them give it to businesses.

it wouldn\'t only be a hundred, everyone would get 500 instead of only the select few getting 600 which was the first plan i remember reading about.

i know but the House plan had stuff in there for businesses as far as reimbursement of infrastructure improvements. i think it was around 25% or more. which would def. make me more apt to buy a new personal/ home/ work computer in 08\'. so i agree.

For real? With interest rates lower than inflation this is almost as irresponsible as spending it on drugs. (and alot less fun)

Either that or invest it in international markets/gold.

Chasing recent performance?  Look up the Callan Chart.  This will show you why I think that\'s such a bad idea.

For anyone carrying credit card debt-throw  the $ at your highest interest payment card.  If you just make minimum payments you can wind up paying for gas you bought one day for years. It\'s so wasteful.

If you\'re debt free- open a Roth IRA.  The $$$ grows tax free.  If you are 30 years old a well balanced stock mutual can turn that into $20K by the time you turn 65.

Even to get a juicier yield on a cd, you\'d likely need to plunk down a minimum investment in the range $5-10,000.

Zappa, I\'d definitely take the advice of the Coyote here.  To make an investment, you really need to feel comfortable with its fundamentals and cyclical behavior patterns.  For gold, you\'d need to know what environments it thrives (it\'s a crisis hedge) and whether there may be support beyond the current rally.

Flirting with a bear market is actually a good time to make contrarian bets by digging for beaten down stocks/industries that are likely to perform well in the longer term.  Concerned about the longer term health of the economy, you could scope out industres with essential products that consumers will buy in any economic environment (or companies who are not reliant on the U.S. market for most of their earnings).

My advice: find Bill and Ted\'s time machine phone booth (or a Delorean DMC), go back to October, and make an allocation to an inverse S&P500 fund.

The Senate is set to begin voting on dueling economic aid proposals, as senators rush to add jobless benefits and [-]tax rebates for high earners[/-], the elderly, and disabled veterans to a House-passed package.

i agree with all but

Quote
The measure would make individuals with annual incomes of up to $150,000 and couples with incomes up to $300,000 eligible for the rebates ? limits twice as high as the plan the House passed on Tuesday.

Isn\'t this only for people who make less than 70k a year? That means ppl are likely to spend it on BS that won\'t stimulate the economy one bit.

No, the rebates don\'t "Stop" until 120, but they start going down at 70. There are different limits for couples, along with a max refund if you are poor and have lots of kids.

I think, i have researched this post at all.

Second, I think the best idea I heard, which I think was shot down, was to allow business to write off "capital expensese" from their earnings.

This, I believe will encourage them to buy more stuff from other businesses. Those other businesses will make money, hire more people, pay better salaries, etc, etc, and stimulate the ecomony alot more than people buying TVs, couches, food or a fancy dinner.

That is really what will stimulate the economy. Jobs are needed to get this economy rolling. That way people feel secure, will begin spending their money to help boost the economy in terms of the BS. But if nobodys got a decent job, then everyone is gonna put their money in CDs. JOB SECURITY. bottom line.

Im still a recent college grad without a real job, can you tell?

That being said, if i get a check, it\'ll go in a CD.

Also, a slumping housing market is not bad for everyone. For people like me, who do not know own any property but are looking to buy, it\'s a good thing; houses are getting cheaper.

because they supposedly don\'t make enough to actually pay taxes or something like that

i hope to use the small business thing to buy a new computer this year. small home business expense

a condo a couple doors down from me is selling for like 135 where my girl bought in at like 165.

Democrats and the Bush administration say they want to reach a quick agreement so the economic stimulus can be applied quickly to the struggling economy. But any Democratic insistence on covering those who don\'t pay income tax could be a cause of conflict.

The White House, for now, envisions providing one-time rebate checks to people who pay federal income taxes. That would leave out millions of the working poor, who do not make enough to pay income taxes but do pay Social Security and Medicare payroll taxes.

Families of four earning less than $24,900 a year would not get a rebate under the White House approach, said Chad Stone, chief economist at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, a research group that focuses on how government programs affect the poor and middle class.

He has estimated that about 22 million households file income tax returns but do not pay that tax because their earnings are so low. An additional 22 million households do not file a return, he said. This group includes many older people on fixed incomes, he said.

Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson has said Bush "is focused on broad-based tax relief for those who are paying taxes." Paulson said that worked in 2001 and 2003.

by putting it into a cd. Bush is an idiot. Still, most people will go out and blow it, which will stimulate the economy. People are idiots too.

Either that or invest it in international markets/gold.
