Title: Who\'s the biggest Rock Band in the World?

it\'s pretty sad when are nations economy depends on **** like this..... what is this poor nation coming to.

Better-than-expected profit results from Walt Disney Co. handed Wall Street some good news. Disney posted a 26 percent decline in profit late Tuesday, but the results beat expectations. The company -- one of the 30 companies that make up the Dow Jones industrials -- reported a 9 percent rise in revenue, thanks in part to the success of brands such as ESPN, "High School Musical" and "Hannah Montana."

You would have to not only buy my ticket but also a LOT of drinks if I were to go see The Eagles.
Different strokes...You\'d have to get me pretty drunk to even go near a horse, let alone ride one.

I saw The Eagles on their last tour (my father bought the tix - $175 a piece) and it was somewhat of a nostalgia thing, but they actually played some new music. I enjoyed it, but wouldn\'t pay that much to see them again.
I also got to see a free mega concert last year on the Stones last tour because my friend\'s dad bought too many tickets. It was certainly fun (especially since I only paid a couple bucks for the train), but $100 is more than I am willing to pay for a predictable show.

I would definately agree with that. Going to see a band this far past their prime just to say you saw them is pretty stupid in my opinion.
100 bucks a ticket to see a nostalgia show, not worth it.
With that said, I still would see a Phish reunion even though it will never ever be half as good as the shows I\'ve seen in the past.

I thought so too, but then in my oponion, I would not include the rolling stones. I\'ve never liked them, but I think that people go to the concerts to say that they went to a rolling stones concert, not because they really are fans of the music.

I really don\'t understand this thread at all.
It\'s titled "Which of these ARE the biggest rock band"
I can understand U2 and Radiohead, but none of these bands are still creating new material to my knowledge.
I agree with you Yoda that the Beatles are the biggest band ever, but I thought were speaking of present time...
Just my $0.02

My father always said that whenever he heard the Stones on the radio, it made him appreciate how good The Beatles really were - I agree.
I honestly don\'t get all of the Bono bashing. The man\'s head may be the size of Rhode Island, but he\'s still constantly trying to help people around the world.
Might I suggest that The Beatles or Elvis should be added to the Biggest Rock Band. Both will be remembered long after any band mentioned on this thread fizzles out.

Bono onstage: Stops the audience and gets them to quiet down. He claps his hands once and stands in silence....a moment later he claps again...and stands in silence....finally he speaks and tells the audience, "everytime I clap my hands...a child in Africa dies".....a guy in the audience yells....." then stop clapping!!"
LLOLLOLOL!!!!!!!!! I\'m not sure if that\'s really a true story but it\'s a funny one. Artie Lange told it on Howard Stern.

What about Ol\' Ludwid Van? His tunes were real horrorshow.

Too bad their songs all sound the same.
I really can\'t stand U2. But of course I understand and almost respect what they have done and why they are huge.

Coming from someone who really can\'t stomach hearing U2 anymore because I\'ve listened to the same few discs spin over and over and over and over and over and over and over at the Irish Pub I\'ve worked at for almost 5 years, I think you\'re all fools for saying they blow and are questioning "how they ever got popular?"
I think they\'re the definition of righteous pop. Somehow they\'ve crafted TONS of solid tunes that appeal to both Hannah Montana and Breakfast fans alike. That may be a stretch, maybe not though. I don\'t care for them anymore, they\'ve been played out and I was never a big fan in the first place, but their talent and looong career is something that really shouldn\'t be ripped apart.
I don\'t respect Bono as a man either. I respect the music and the band that he fronts very much so, and they get my somewhat painful vote by a long-shot. ****, there goes Sunday Bloody Sunday in my head again.

The only part of U2 somewhat decent is their association with Brian Eno. Other than that, wow, how are they popular?
Rolling Stones are/and will always be the poor man\'s Beatles..
PJ\'s last album was the same song over and over again.
In Rainbows is out of this world... My opinion definetly shifted with this latest release.
But, I\'ll say it again. Porcupine Tree should be the BIGGEST Rock band in the world....

Although I agree that LDZ is my favorite out of the bands listed in the thread, unless they write new material, it\'s just a hits tour. To me, that should not automatically put them at the top of the list.
I know that I\'m in the minority, but I won\'t pay more than $75 a ticket for any band. I personally hate when bands tour and play the hits without writing any new material and charge astronomical prices to see them.

Of those 4 I would rank them as follows
Rolling Stones U2 Radiohead Perl Jam
As far as # of people attending a show.
Led Zeppelin will shame all previous reunion type concert attendance / sales if they tour of course.
As for influence on culture etc none of these bands is close to the rolling stones. U2 is a way distant 2nd. The rolling stones are rock-n-roll and have been for more than 40 years
I hear ya but it may not be so anymore. U2 has grown to a point where they are now being referred to in many magazines and critic columns as THE ROCK and ROLL band to contend with. The Stones while making more money now then anytime when they were actually relevant are not as influential as U2 in the public consciousness.
I haven\'t considered U2 relevant since Achtung Baby, that was released in what 1992 ? And when was the last time they toured ? they are not in my consciousness
The toured in \'05 into \'06 and have released 2 of the best albums they have ever made in the time that you lost track of them. You have proven you are not indicative of the public consciousness so I can totally understand why you feel that way.
what 2 albums would that be ? honestly curious. I think that is a pretty bold statement considering their early works.

Led Zeppelin is the quintessential rock band. Rock-n-roll has never been the same since. Their influence on others is staggering, NO ONE compares to them live and I only have the recordings to make that judgment. Not the Grateful Dead no one. When they were on they were untouchable, PERIOD.
For a period they were and overall I would agree with you but by the time they called it quits it was obvious that they were not the same as just 3 years earlier.
The last tour was filled with mediocre performances and they were not what they once were. All the better that this most recent concert was so damn good. It shows the ability to reach those past heights is still conceivable.

who is #1 in that assessment ?
If they are in the conversation they are bigger than any of those bands. They out sell almost everyone every year in album sales and they haven\'t done anything new since 1980.

Now, WHO should be the biggest rock band in the world is a question that can be answered with two words: Porcupine
Tree
Not sure that I would call U2 a hackney band; they\'ve been pretty consistant over the years. As for Hanna Montana, I wouldn\'t include her because it\'s not like adults are going out it droves to see her shows (it\'s their kids who want to go to the shows). We saw the same thing with New Kids on the Block and the Spice Girls; and again I wouldn\'t consider them a rock band, more of a pop fad. I would have to throw Springsteen into the mix. I know that there isn\'t a lot of love on this site for him, but when he sells out 15 dates in one city on one tour and 10 on another and continues to sell out all around the world, that\'s pretty substantial.

In September......Led Zeppelin will once again be at the top. Jimmy Page said yesterday, "it will happen!!!!!!"
But right now if you\'re talking ticket, CD, DVD and merch sales...it\'s Miley Cyrus (Hannah Montana)...:( Rolling Stone mag recently reported that if The Stones, U2 or the Who were touring right now, she would out sell them. Ouch....... the POWER of marketing.
HMMM???? Tim in a long blonde wig?????? Adrian with his own sitcom?????? Matt O as his alter ego "Connie Connecticut".....it could work. Someone call Disney...NOW.
Interesting............................
