i\'m going to play devils advocate here and point out that if he had hurt or killed someone, YOU could be held personally liable since you didn\'t have insurance. you cain\'t afford to NOT carry liability insurance on a vehicle. if he killed someone else, you could be **** for a long long time.
-
oh honey....i\'m so sorry.
the bad guy went though my cds, I cant wait to see which one he picked to listen to while crashing into a ditch.
im pretty sure after all this **** gets figured out and I have a car back I\'m gonna have to go back to NH. There will be no way I can afford to live here.
I know that there isn\'t much I can do being up here, but if there is ANYTHING you can think of, please let me know.
Wish I could give you a hug right now!
Everytime I start to feel good about people something like this happens.
:that: :(

Well, they would ask her how long the car had been in its spot and I\'m sure a bunch more questions. Cops aren\'t stupid. I\'m just saying it\'s better to guard your grill than to set yourself up for more trouble.
she can\'t get in trouble unless she was driving the car (without insurance) and got in an accident. in that case, she would get a ticket... Basically, having it stolen with no insurance just sucks. I hate to be the debbie downer, but the odds of catching the bad guys are slim.
Good luck. Make sure you get a bunch of price quotes when you get it fixed. Don\'t be afraid to shop around.
In the 50 years my grandparents lived in east haven, they had their cars stolen TWICE from out of their driveway. It\'s tough just about anywhere....

Oh my gosh Alli, I can\'t believe this. It makes me so sad and angry. I\'m so incredibly sorry. I know that there isn\'t much I can do being up here, but if there is ANYTHING you can think of, please let me know.
Wish I could give you a hug right now!

my sincerest sympathies, SA!!!! that truly sucks! hopefully holly\'s cousin can help out some. next time we talk to jill\'s gigantic catholic family up there, i\'ll ask if anyone has an old car they want to get rid of. id say go the scooter route, but its too damn cold up there for that!!

The Willimantic schools have a 62% hispanic population
-
Is any town that has a large PR population not currupted by it? Hmmm, maybe there is something about \'em (sidenote, my best friend is PR, though a conservative one!).
-
You\'ve obviously never been to Willi-Rico
-
seriously though, willimantic is pretty ghetto. percentage wise i think it was the most puerto rican town in the US at some point
actually (i dont know statistics), i think amsterdam ny, aptly nicknamed "amster rico" has a very high percentage. some of the upstaters might be able to identify with me on this statement. troylets and amstericos are always battling it out for whos scummier....
and then there\'s cohoes, ny...right across the river from troy. in a league of its own...that place is full of co-"hoes"

Bummer this happened Alli but why do you even need a car?
Can\'t you just piggyback on Alexi for rides?
You\'re not that big and I am sure his back can handle it.
-
alright, enough willi bashing.
::awaits Alexi bashing::
seriously though, willimantic is pretty ghetto. percentage wise i think it was the most puerto rican town in the US at some point (not that that has anything to do with crime and dope, of course). crack **** are everywhere, and not shy at all.
uber dick.
who steals a car from a church?
-
Really sad to hear this. I donated my truck to the kidney foundation. Was able to takea $3k deduction on my taxes.
-
My advice:
Get in a time machine, go back a week and buy a Club for your steering wheel. Sorry to hear about this incident, but you really need to protect your assets in a grimy town.

Willimantic is ...rich in **** and addiction.
Why do you think SA lives there?!!

so does make you a gypsie or a taint, or both?
-
well the gun fire does sound tempting... but im pretty sure after all this **** gets figured out and I have a car back I\'m gonna have to go back to NH. There will be no way I can afford to live here.
Thanks to everyone for your concern.
few questions
1. what is the deal with willamantic? i dont know anything about this city, is it ghetto?
2. Did you have insurance, but just not the type that would cover that, or did you have NONE at all? cause this will change things a bit legally
3. where was the car found?
2. NONE at all.
3. In a ditch a town over.
-
whoa, whoa... arent you forgetting Hooker Hotel?!

Willimantic is home to Eastern Connecticut State University and is also a stop on the H Train via New York>Willimantic>Providence>Boston etc. It\'s incredibly poor and is rich in **** and addiction.
Sally. Here is some information regarding the CT insurance laws.
In the state of CT, can you let me know the penalty for driving without a license and being involved in a accident in inclement weather with a lapsed insurance policy?
Connecticut Statues (Motor Vehicles Chapter 246, Section 14) discusses the penalties for driving without a valid license. Here it states that any person who violates any provision of this section shall, for a first offense, be deemed to have committed an infraction and be fined not less than seventy-five dollars or more than ninety dollars and, for any subsequent offense, shall be fined not less than two hundred fifty dollars or more than three hundred fifty dollars or be imprisoned not more than thirty days, or both.
Connecticut law requires that all registered motor vehicles have liability insurance maintained at all times. When you register or renew a vehicle registration, you must certify insurance coverage. Your signature attests that minimum vehicle liability insurance will be maintained throughout the registration period and the vehicle will not be driven without insurance. Action must be taken by the DMV if this statement is not honored.
Whenever insurance coverage is cancelled, the CT DMV is notified by the insurance company and the registrant is mailed a Warning Notice offering the opportunity to enter into a consent agreement, obtain insurance, and pay a fine of $200.
The penalties for being caught driving without insurance in CT include impoundment of the vehicle and a fine of at least $110. Because of being in an accident you will likely be held personally responsible for the damages and injuries you might have caused to the others.
You should check with the CT DMV and/or the Insurance Department for more information on your possible penalties for driving without a license and without insurance plus being in an accident in inclement weather.
Thanks for the info but my car is registered in the live free or die state. Which is either gonna help me or hurt me. Since I live in CT.
I think your option then is living free, or going out in a hail of gunfire as you resist the strong arm of the law.
Either way I hope your situation is resolved and in a timely and cheap fashion!! Good luck...

i\'m so sorry this happened to you alli. you are the last person in the world who should have to deal with this ****..i\'ll be out of work around 3 or 4 today and will get back in touch with you. when you get an analysis of the damaged/and or stolen parts lemme know. my old 2000 civic ex is down in va and is probably going to be stripped for parts at some point anyway. i can also talk to my cousin who has a shop and mechanics for his construction company down around danbury. they did work on my old honda when i got into an accident and can get cheap used parts and whatnot.
other than main st brewery, taco bell, and 2 for 1 night at corleone\'s, willimantic **** sucks.
-
There was a statistic out a few years back that claimed Willimantic was the dope capital of New England (b/c of its location between Boston and New York).
-
Alli I\'m so sorry to hear this ****. I have no advice for you but I hope you can get something figured out. :sadban:

Charge her with what? She wasn\'t driving the car...
I\'m sorry Alli, anything I can do to help let me know.
My car is in the shop this week, but I would be able to help you with rides to work or whatever next week if you need them.
Well they won\'t charge her with anything per se HOWEVER, how long was the car uninsured for ? Were there still plates on the car ?
Not exactly sure how it works in CT but in NY once the car is uninsured you HAVE to return the plates. Failure to do so is a big problem. They will allow you to pay a fine in NY up to 90days (it is something like $3 or $5 a day penalty) in order to re-register the car with proof of INS. After 90 days tho and you have to wait the same amount of time in order to re-register the car. So if you have had an uninsured car for 91days (1 day more then they allow $ penalty) you would have to wait 91 days until you can re-register the car. I went through this myself it is a huge pain in the ass and fees on top of fees.
So if the car was uninsured and the plates were not returned it would be a really good idea to check with the CT DMV to see what your options are.
-
please share which w/ us which CD he picked when you find out.
sorry, i\'ll give you rides if you need to. i\'m always a phone call away(although my phone is out of minutes and not working), you can text me;)
-
honda\'s (especially accords) I think are one of the most stolen cars because of universal parts, easy to break into, and there are just a TON of them on the road. Your lucky it\'s only that much damage, could have been much worse.
sorry it happened to ya, hope they catch whoever did it. They never caught mine.
-

:( sorry sweetie, good luck, and let me know if you need a ride too.

yeah, I did file one. Im looking up quotes right now.
-
Did you file a report last night?
I don\'t know. Seeing as you don\'t have insurance, I don\'t think it would be the wisest idea to file a report. They can easily turn around and charge you.
-
I just went to the tow lot.
I guess there are some cops coming from new haven to finger print my car. they wouldnt let me touch it. the bad guy went though my cds, I cant wait to see which one he picked to listen to while crashing into a ditch.
The damages are around 1,500. my car is a 2000 honda civic and I think it goes for about 5,000.
So it\'s not totaled. Which I guess is good news. I still dont feel good about it though.
The guy brought me around and showed me other stolen hondas they had...they looked horrible. One of them was set on fire. I guess they see more hondas than any other type of car.
The douchey bad guy torn off the part under my steering wheel to hotwire the car when there was a spare key in the cup holder 3 inches away.
I\'m just wondering if there is anything I should be doing legally. I have not talked to the cops all day.
-
you could also donate the car to many charities. Generally the will give you atleast a $500 tax deduction for it, it can be more than that but the low end is the $500.00
Depending on your tax situation it my or may not be a good idea.
Also if you feel comfortable enough you could always go with a motorcycle or scooter to get around locally and not spend too much cash to do it. INS is very low on those types of vehicles.
Good luck and sorry about your car.
-
if it\'s \'totaled\' you may be able to get $100 from a junkyard somewhere :(
if you\'re savvy you can take the time to sell parts on ebay or something..
i got nothin else :(
i\'m so sorry - good luck
::hugs::

1. Unless your still in school, move the hell out of Willimantic.
2. Let the Lords of Karma sort this out.
3. There\'s very little you can do to take control of the situation. Take Dave\'s advice and shop the car around to various car part stores/ scrap yards.
4.Have one of your roommates go on a bender and steal another car, preferably one of someone without legal residence in the US, or someone with an itchy arm. Leave Willimantic the same night.
5. Call Geico. Get insured!
-
my buddy got into a hit and run. he ended up buying a car with his own money because the cops didn\'t say anything about getting the person who fled. a couple months later he gets a settlement check for a couple grand and something that said they caught the person this is what we feel your owed........
but it sucks either way because you don\'t have a car. good luck and i hope they catch the bastard
-
SA - If they didn\'t catch them, and you were uninsured, there\'s very little that can be done. If the police eventually get him/her, then you\'ll have both a civil remedy (lawsuit) AND you\'ll have access to a Victim\'s Advocate in the criminal court. The lawsuit would likely be useless, as you can\'t get blood from a stone, but there\'s a victim\'s compensation fund in the criminal court that could help.
Good luck. I hope the bad guys get caught.
-
oh honey....i\'m so sorry. i\'m glad you were not involved in the crashing of said car, but it still sucks!
good luck on finding a used car.
-
my advice to you would be to get the hell out of willi, you could still live in the area, just not in the heart of willi.
sorry bout your car : (
-
No, didn\'t catch the guy.
-
did they catch the people who stole it? if so, id just sue them. there must be someone on .info with some court experience that could represent you.
if not, then sell the car to a car part store...they wont give you a lot, but enough (depending on how much damage there is/how much the car was worth) to get a cheap used car in its place.
sorry to hear, thats so shitty.
-
So last night my car got broken into, stolen and crashed. I did not have insurance. My parents took me off their policy and i could not afford it. The car is possibly totaled.
I know this has happened to other people in their lifetime and I\'m wondering if anyone has some advice to get through this a little easier. I\'m having a hard time dealing with it.
Also if the car is totaled I\'m gonna be in the market for a new cheap car...so if anyone knows of any. Let me know
I HATE willimantic.
