Being an ever vigilant catholic, I don\'t have the option for meat this friday; does anyone know of any good pizza places near the bar?  If not, I\'ll just go to ralph\'s in nutley and eat on the way down.

Yes, they are headlining. Booked as "an evening with", which means they are the only band and will play two sets.

Quote from: wiredchicken;183171
they were playing two sets even if the station was still opening.  or whoever was supposed to.  this is going to be a insane show

bump for this week.  cant wait for this show.  been jonesing for some more breakfast since the troc show.

so do we know if this is an evening with the breakfast show or if there is an opener yet?
Title: Donegal Saloon; Kearny, NJ
Post by: cosmoechuck on March 12, 2008, 05:11:07 pm
so since they are the only band playing they should be 2 very long sets right?

is the atmosferics an umphreys mcgee cover band?

Dear God, I hope not.

One-Eyed Jack is not playing this night. They were probably listed as playing on Jambase before they rescheduled the gig.

Don\'t believe everything you read on Jambase. Anyone can add info, and it goes largely unchecked.

i just asked that cause umphreys has a song entitled "atmosfarag."  its one of my least favorite um songs.

imo, openers suck moose balls. Salty, sweaty ones. ;)

so the Breakfast suck moose balls

the official website says breakfast at 1030.

One eyed jack is pretty much like the house band at the donegal.  they always play there.  should be a great time.  will see about getting intouch with alzie of one eyed jack and see if he can shed some light on what time each band is scheduled.

well. there will still be a show tonight for people looking for saomething to do.  superband being put together consisting members of NJ\'s Brainbox, Turtle Soup, Unexplaine Bacon and One eyed jack.  also seems like mark from Antibalas may be in the house.  come to the party

Is this show gonna be in the same place The Breakfast just rescheduled?
If so The Breakfast are blowing it once again.

i don\'t know how bad the weather is in jersey, but the driving is horrible up here in southern mass and rhode island, i\'m sure its not much better in CT.  granted, the show could\'ve gone on, but the last thing anyone needs is someone wrecking driving a couple hours for a show on icy roads.  it just reminds me of the time donny greenleaved and andy mcajam totalled their car on the way to timmy tour in march of \'05, shitty that the show can\'t go on, but its probably best all around.

I\'m glad no one is going to be driving in this. It\'s for the better.

Dave, be really careful. It is snowing really hard up here and is expected to snow steadily until at least 8pm, with snow showers continuing off and on until around 2am.

I saw a really nasty accident involving a schoolbus full of kids on my way home from the barn. Hope everyone\'s alright. :(

well, my friend chris talked to tim earlier today and they said it was on.  then now they called back and told him that they dont want to come down and play to a half empty room and feel the weather would keep people away.  i just got off the phone.  they told me to post beofre that the show was on.  so dont shoot the messanger.

there were a lot of people going to this show. most of whom dont post on or know about the .info.   i think this is a terrible call on the reschedule.  totally lame.  the band had 2 suites booked for them by the bar owner and everything.  there wouldve been a great crowd there tonight.  this is just too bad.

ps- the roads are completely clear, they wouldnt have to drive at night.  and the new date is march 21st.

i have news for you, colin - the roads were certainly NOT fine that day. all highways in CT were completely jammed, and there were countless people on the news saying that it took them 5 hours to go 45 miles. the band had no way of making it to that show.

Before hand at Donegals.  I am making a reservation at Iberia Restaurant in Newark NJ for a bunch of my friends from NJ before the Donegal\'s show.  The restaurant is about 15 minutes from the venue.  The food is very good and the Sangria is better.  Please let me know if you would like to be included in the reservation.  I would guess we should have around 20 people.  I will make the reservation around 8 as the band goes on around 10.  Thanks

Yeah, it definitely changed owners, but they\'re keeping the name and apparently they\'re going to close for a little bit and fix up the decor inside (not that it needs any updates).  The only bartenders I know there come in from Jersey City and were related to Cathy (one of the previous owners).  I heard about this place St. Stephen\'s, supposed to be good, but I haven\'t been there yet.

I wanted to reply to the questions asked, but I could not figure it out!  So here are the answers.

Jocelyn Brazilian or Portegese food?  Both and sorry for the confusing post, had to do with Tim at CJ Sparrows the night before, still trying to shake the cob webs.

Camden or Newark?   Camden wins hands down.  Newark is making a comeback.

Finally I have gotten about 10 commitiments for Diner from my boys in NJ.  Looks like Donegals will be packed for the Breakfast.

I went to school 5 minutes from Kearny in \'beautiful\' Newark NJ and wanted everyone to know that some of the best food you will ever eat is in Newark NJ.  The area around Penn Station Newark is called down neck or the Iron Bound section of Newark and it is where the best Portugese Restaurants in the US are.  A couple of recomendation are Iberia (Steak, lobster Paella etc...), Iberia Penisula (rodizio which is a brazilian barbeque which is a meat lover paradise), Spains and Don Pepe\'s just to name a few.  My recomnendation is to go to Iberia Penisula get Rodizio or Lobster (twin lobsters 15.99), some Sangria and have a great time.  If you plan on doing this I would recommend a reservation as it will be very tough to just walk in.  Rodizio is a very social meal, what it entails are people walking around with scures (spelling?) of meat and serving you as much as you can eat, everything from filet wrapped in bacon to sausage.  I will make sure that this show is packed and that NJ gives the Breakfast a good showing.  Let me know if you have any questions about the area or if you need directions.  PS Tim was great last night at CJ Sparrows.

Wow this was a confusing post. Are they Portuguese restaurants, Brazilian, or both? There is a difference in the food, despite a shared language....
