how about a review?
I\'ll give a short review, \'cause I\'m supposed to be "working", and they\'re not "paying me" to sit on my ass all day surfing the web.
The place was mobbed, they played a **** load of dead tunes. It sounded great.
I hope you enjoyed this episode of You Shoulda Been There, good night and good luck.

i stand by my position, though. if they had put as much time and effort into doing something original and creative, i bet they\'d be good as hell. but since they don\'t, why waste the over-priced ticket money on them? the fact that the market sustains a cover band that charges more than the original band is what gets me...
sure, the market sustains them, but the market also sustains velvet elvis and dog\'s playing poker paintings.... doesn\'t mean those are worth paying more for than for an actual artist\'s work.
Yeah I get what you\'re saying.
I saw/heard DSO at GOTV last summer, and really enjoyed them. Whether they\'re a cheesy cover band or talented musicians, I don\'t know. I just know that I\'m going tonight (on a school night) because I like the music they played live. That is all.
And that is all that matters.
at least its Friday and the kids don\'t even want to be in school tomorrow either.

yeah, they do a decent job. just think of how good and potent they could be doing their own thing!! although, since they don\'t, one has to assume that as creative musicians they suck ass, but as replicative musicians they are pretty decent.
its just a personal thing, but if you\'re gonna put that much time and effort into something i can get better with an ipod mix of the real thing, i have to laugh at you. i\'d rather go to dead night at the local hippie club - same killer sound system, someone doing lights, same nice mix of music and people, but twenty five bucks cheaper! to me, its like being an amazing paint-by-numbers painter....
See this is a perfect example of why one should not assume. John K. and Dino have a group w/ Melvin Seals on keys and they tear **** up original stylee. They put out an album called The Mix and it\'s pretty freakin\' good!
Some of the other members have also put out original material but they make the most bank doing DSO and there is a market so why not ?
My friend Dan who was filling in for Rob has his own band Smokelahoma and he is awesome at the keys and his original material is great.

it simply astounds me that people are willing to pay so much for a cover band. hell, the tix around here are going for $35 and people are actually buying them!! i know deadheads who never paid that much to see the real damn band!!! find passes and enjoy...
Well some folk never got the chance to see the real thing and DSO is the best approximation of that. The last time they were out here I strongly considered going even at $28 /ticket. I came across a ticket for 1/2 price and went.
They played an original setlist which at first kinda bummed me out but that was soon replaced by amazement as they proceeded to play a setlist that blew me away.
10/10/2007 Belly Up Tavern, Solana Beach,
1:H.C. Sunshine, Passenger, Deep Elem, Esau, Loose Lucy, Broken Arrow, Easy Wind, Masterpiece, Tangled Up
2:Unbroken Chain, And It Stoned Me, Truckin> Nobody\'s Fault But Mine> Crazy Fingers> Other One> Drums> Space> Other One> Brokedown> Lovelight
Encore: After Midnight> Midnight Moonlight
What really got me was the accuracy they achieved in playing songs as they were played at a certain time. The H.C. Sunshine and Passenger were the 70\'s versions then they switched to the 80\'s for the next 2 songs up to the 90\'s with Broken Arrow, back to the 70\'s Easy Wind to the 80\'s w/ Masterpiece and then topped it of with a nice 90\'s JGB tear up
Second Set was simply astounding .
They now have a full crew audio/lighting and this cost money. It may seem ridiculous to some but DSO is putting out a quality show for the amount of money they are charging.
I will say that it was not enough though to get me to go the next night for full price.

<<<< hope\'n someone will have a pocket full of Toad\'s passes
As of last night, we don\'t think any have been printed yet. I hit the squirrels with a wet noodle to wake them up. Hopefully there will be some waiting for us tonight. And yes, I will be there...with handbills at least.

Anyone else heading down to this tonight? I know 25$ is steep for a cover band, but I\'ve got the day off from work tomorrow, and it should be a fun night!
