"so Matt, how are those protein shakes working?"
"I don\'t know the words to Doughboy"
-
zoinks!!!
i hear hes\' great jazz guitarist. maybe we get some old school standards soon?
-
This implosion has already happened...and will 50 more times. Its quite painful.
-
be happy he is here.
just wait for the implosion of your heart.
-
I dont think anyone was saying anything bad about him.
-
Most of you guys seem to forget that his first show was only on August 12th, 2007. That\'s a little over 3 1/2 months. He connects at most times 1,242 times better with the rest of the band than most players do after years with their band mates. I know, being a PB fan since inception, I also strive for perfection...but give the guy a frickin\' break!!

sometimes matt is great during jams, and other times is lost, but thats very easy to do with music like the breakfast. only time will tell if it was the right move for the band.
:hscratch:
pretty sure it has already been established/proven that it was absofuckinglutely the right move for the band.
yeah, i\'d have to agree with you, dave. i think matt brings a great balance to the band.
-
I can not deny that there have been a few moments of lostness that have made me cringe and want to stop watching/listening but those are sooooo far and few between that it\'s unfair to even judge him on that. It was a considerably rougher in the very beginning, but now, not even six months later, his mixing with the band at this point is 98% all good to sick and 1 or 2% OOF!.... so you can\'t really complain about that! If you want perfection at least give a little time!!
-
Matt obviously adds a new element to this band that we haven\'t heard/seen before... personally, I like what he brings -- he\'s not only in the background & can lead/solo just as well as the other guys in the band. He\'s already proven himself through intense jams (see, intro>puppetry from Wheelhouse 11/29) and I have a strong feeling that it will continue to get better in time.
-
i think its the synth work that matt will have the hardest time filling in jordans shoes. jordan was a master of synth, he had it down to a science. plus, from matts background, synth work is obviously not going to be his strong suit. he\'ll get it though, hes already getting better at it.

valid.

dont get me wrong matt is a very talented musician and a super nice guy, but sometimes it seems like hes on a different page then the rest of the band, probably due to the chemistry that the band has built up over the years that he has yet to establish. that is why i said only time will tell, i mean hes only been playing with the band for a few months. i do love the jazzy element that he brings to the table though
^ I feel this way as well. Sorry if that upsets anyone.
Like kartoon said, he is great but sometimes it seems like he is trying for a completely different sound than the rest of the band and it just does not fit. hes uber talented though probably just having a hard time finding the groove at some points, at other points he is dead on.
thanks sally and kartoon...
but i am sold on the spontaneous jazz solo\'s, but then again these guys pack tight jammed out heat...so it\'s all subjective i guess...
i\'m just not pouncing on this guy like a **** rabbit, i still think he needs some time to refine his style and sound...it hasn\'t been that long.

I just can\'t wait for the real collaborations to commence on new songs...I want to see what matt has to bring to the table with song structures, themes, and comping styles...
and the last daniel street...GSOT, my fav one...
-
I love the fact that matt knows nothing of the dead or phish....
Yet he is taking the band to that next level...
that phish and the dead were both on....
where the improvisation leads to epic, emotional, moving, unexpected, transcendental, unforgettable exhilirating, blissful musical moments.
What a paradox.
I love it.

Matt learned Shakedown Street on the ride up.

great **** musician. i agree 100% that he is what this band needed and they are going in the best direction possible
-
go listen to the space city affair from last night. That was matts jam. Sure it was avant gard but he pretty much lead it begining to end musically.
-
aren\'t we all in some way shape or form?
no.
well i guess you need to make some more trips to the northeast;)
-
matt is really good, and really nice. Im excited to see if he produces some new tunes and what they sound like.
The guy has never listened to phish or the grateful dead. I wonder if he is into zappa or the chili peppers or anyother band the breakfast claims as an influence...besides mahavish which he must know well...hum...we will see.
-
I really love how Matt has brought the jazz element back to the live performances, something found in older PB shows that hadn\'t been around for quite a while.
When was the last time they played Matt\'s ragtime Dig jam?
At the "Croton On Hudson" gig....I\'ll see if I can upload that tune very soon.

Quite awhile. Very refreshing.
Hmm if ya think about it the guys are getting to explore the bands roots w/ Matt so strong in Jazz.
Would def. account for such drastic changes in jams that have been fairly similar for the past couple years.
-
Matt\'s addition has propelled this band into another dimension. His musical background is a perfect fit for this band. Bring on the future.
It\'s just stunning how the advent of Matt changed the dynamics overnight. I can\'t believe what has been accomplished in only a few months.
Yes indeed.

Matt is really pushing this band into so many new directions and so far I have not been disappointed AT ALL!

i heard matt\'s IQ is also close to 200, making him a genius in that regard as well
-
He is so damn amazing! Really! His playing is so spot on even when he gets lost he finds his way back so quickly.
The Shakedown from last night had him kicking all sorts of ass and from what I read he was not familiar with Grateful Dead songs. UH same thing with Phish remember? and we heard what he did with that music!
So far what he has brought to the Breakfast\'s Originals catalog is just so fuckin\' incredible I cannot fathom what the new year is going to bring this band.
I am not even talking about them blowing up.
I am talking strictly about the music they will create wherever they happen to be playing.
Get these guys into a studio ASAP. A real studio.

To take a phrase from Rickey Roux: You Lucky Bastards!!!
