after a couple listens, im not sure what i think.. if i was there maybe id be in a different position.. playing\'s great. vocals, questionable
i was there, and im in the same boat. during the show i ate it all up, but upon first listen i realized my excitement and adrenaline (not to mention my ears don\'t work as a matrix filter clarifying everything) played into the vocals sounding better.
in the moment, reba felt like the best of the night overall, and that holds up in my book. if there was one track to push (ie for sirius radio) out of LB, my vote is in for reba.
-
thank you for taping this [not like you would have missed the opportunity, but thank you thank you thank you].
it\'s bittersweet listening to it now because i\'d been planning costume/trip/hotel/weekend/etc for months, i even had tickets at the door, but i blew a halloween microchip before the weekend started and was in bed fri.-mon. thanking jah i was still alive. [yeah, cop out, i know].
would have liked to hear matt bang the keys more obnoxiously on bathtub gin. and there is no replicating the sound of the \'doc [the strat sounded amusing though]. the vocals came out real clear on the matrix [which doesn\'t flatter the band but they did real well considering the comparison]. kudos, good recording. thanks again for letting me hear what i missed out on [over and over again.... sigh].
oh yeah, no one could have done it better.
-
alright, after listening to this show many many times...id say the all around best LB song is reba, even though they **** up a little bit of the composed part towards the beginning. after this they really pull it together and a lot of the harder parts in the composed section they nail, and the jam is definately the best of the show, incredible build up.

hm, I was streaming lma while downloading bt, so I probably got counted twice then. I balanced it out though by making 3 copies cause some bt noobs at work wanted the show.
-
BT - 280 hits
AUD LMA - 680 downloads
MATRIX LMA - 3,498
total 4,458 downloads as of thursday morning
How does LMA count thier downloads? Is each track considered to be 1 download? Just curious. Either way, this is great news. Hopefully the Matrix will break 10,000!
whether you download one track, or the whole show, it considers it "a download". and it doesn\'t count a single ip address more than once in a day. so if you click on track by track to download, all in one day, it only counts as one download. if you go back the next day, you\'ll get counted again.
pretty sure streams work the same way.

Thanks Dave and Fitz and whoever else may have been involved! Bfast tapers=best in the biz

so now that I\'m listening to the stream of the covers as I dl the whole show I have to say I love the dirty tone on tims guitar. Gives it a slightly different tone from phish, helps make it their own in a way. Some of the vocals are def average, but the music is almost 100% spot on given the occasional flub which are pretty rare.
overall review: :wah: :banghead:

wolf, thanks for the heads up, even though you deleted your post for some reason. i had the wrong date in the text file (but correct everywhere else). i\'ve gone and made the changes.
No prob man. When I saw the date was correct everywhere else I figured I didn\'t know what I was talking about so I just deleted the post. Now if you\'ll excuse, me, I have a show to download! :D

850+ LMA downloads already!
!
:holyshit: 1000+ downloads in the first 24 hours? :holyshit:
everyone here needs to register with archive and post at least a short show comment.
-
I\'m a bit nervous for the mass circulation with Tim\'s voice. Kinda corny. :duck:
-
btw, if anyone cares, once i\'m done seeding the BT, i\'ll be working on getting the 24-bit versions of the entire weekend up.

dude, absolutely. this is interesting. i mean they still sound very good and i cant name another band that could pull this off at this level, but im definitely going to listen to thee Lawn Boy tomorrow.
-
Finally getting a listen.......
Wow I thought Adrian nailed that high note at the end of Coil when actually there.. Ha! Flatsy doodles. Must\'ve been my internal voice hittin\' it. His playing on the other hand -- FLAWLESS. Really. Now I\'m into Reba and the man was Fishman in every sense that night.
Good lord I really should be studying. This is not good.
heh. yeah, that was one of the first things i noticed too. thought he hit it at the show, but it was definitely a sorry chip listening back to it.
and adrian did a great job, but since you mentioned reba, the drum break was botched.

Thank you Dave. Can\'t believe what I\'m hearing! One word. EPIC.
-
because it paled in comparison to even an average page version.
perhaps brilliant was a bit much. but only a bit. his solo sounded like a page solo, to me. certainly not one of the coils that brings tears, but it held very much stylistically true. and you\'re right, coil needs to close a second set, not be put mid-first set typically, but due to the placement in this show, i think matt\'s shorter more concise ending was a good call. all i know is that after hearing his solo, i was *sure* that the rest of the album was gonna be great! it showed how much time/effort they (or he, at least) put into this and raised something that was cool to hear (bfast playing coil) and elevated it to an event (The Breakfast is Playing COIL!!). really set the tone for the rest of the songs, imo.
i think i\'d put the overall around 8/8.5, so its really not a very big disagreement...
-
i\'d disagree by saying that the vocals on lawn boy are awful, but the piano solo in coil is brilliant!
Overall coil solo rating= 7
I think a 6 is kinda harsh because it was good but was def not anything to really rave about either. I can only really give it a 7 though because it paled in comparison to even an average paige version. It is also meant to be played at the end of a show, not halfway through the first set so I think that should definitely be taken into consideration because it most likely impacted the tastefulness and emotional magnitude of it.
Is homeboy really lobbying for an inverted LB to end a show? ;)
hell mutha fuckin yeah! this is too exciting. the show has been on my mind constantly.

I agree for the most part dave, but I would lower the vocal scores a few points across the boards and raise the composed and jams scores slightly here and there .
LB overall rating = 9.1
Entire show overall rating = 9.4
Overall Fun Factor =10

Lawnboy ratings (all out of 10):
Squirming: Vocals 7, composed 6, jam (piano) 6
Reba: Vocals 8.5, composed 7.5, jam 10
My sweet one: vocals 10, composed 9.5
SOAM: Vocals 6 for tim, 9.5 for the accapella, composed 7.5, jam 10
TOKPC: composed 10
Bathtub Gin: Vocals 7, composed 9, jam 9.5
Antelope: Vocals 8, composed 8, jam 9.5
Lawn Boy: Vocals 7.5, composed 6.5
BATR: Vocals 6.5, composed 7.5
Fun factor: 9.5
All things considered id give the lawn boy set a 9/10
the rest of the show is immense, 9.5/10

sound quality is good considering what i remember it sounding like at the venue.
thanks a lot for recording and remastering dave.
the vocals were pretty much what I remembered them to be.
most of the composed sections were friggin nailed with a noticeable and delightful bfast tone/twist/undercurrent
most of the jams are as good I remember and a lot are also actually BETTER.
Pretty much all ser , and a few EPIC ones.
In the end the show definitely did live up to the all the hype.
All night and at the IH too they just really did a wonderful job of staying in the zone on the genius-virtuoso-tightness but always BALANCING it against let-loose-and-rage-ness.
When they are ON, their new sound is so much more mature than it ever has been and in terms of musical/career milestones, this weekend really solidifies that new era of bfast balance in my mind, paving the way for the future for lots of really really really ser ser ser ser shows.
So anyway....Well done boys, well done indeed. :awwyeah:

Dave which version do YOU like better /
Matrix or straight AUD ?
the matrix has some moments where it sounds fantastic, but others where it just sounds too uneven.
the mic placement is horrific, and while i think the aud came out good, it\'s VERY chatty, and that sucks in the soft parts. i wasn\'t allowed to set up in the middle of the room, so i had to set up by the board in the back left corner. fitzy recorded from high above on the right side.
i dunno.. they both have their ups and downs, imo..
I just did a side by side with squirming coil AUD v. MAtrix and the AUD sounds more natural to my old ears.

sounds to me like you should put your source on the left channel and fitz\'s on the right channel and then matrix it with the sbd. of course mixing down both sources to mono first is a must ;)
