i\'m curious as to how much they\'re charging for the "pieces", as i can\'t get to itunes while at work. regardless, it\'s pretty much bullshit when trent\'s been doing this for a while now for free. kinda gives his bashing of radiohead\'s marketing a little more merit too.

To celebrate this week\'s single release (we still have those in England) Radiohead have broken up the song \'****\' into pieces for you to remix.

For those of you who enjoy this sort of thing, you can buy the separate components or \'stems\' (bass, voice, guitar, strings/FX and drums) and remix your own version of the song. You can do this by adding your own beats and instrumentation or just remixing the original parts. More information here: http://www.radioheadremix.com/information/

You can buy the stems here: http://www.radioheadremix.com/buy/

You can upload your finished mixes here http://www.radioheadremix.com and be judged and even voted on by \'the public\'.
You can also create a widget allowing votes from your own website, Facebook or MySpace page to be sent through too.

Hope you enjoy it

For those of you who aren\'t that way inclined, **** is also available in its entirety on CD and 7 inch (UK release) at the usual retail outlets.

Radiohead: 01 and 10

Ten years after OK Computer shocked the world, Radiohead released In Rainbows on October 10 (10/10). Though no one was expecting the album to be released until 2008, Radiohead announced In Rainbows just ten days in advance. In Rainbows, which consists of ten letters, has ten tracks, and would be downloadable from a rumored ten servers.

Radiohead preceded the release of In Rainbows with nine cryptic messages. They repeatedly emphasized X, the Roman Numeral for ten, in phrases such as ?March Wa X?, and ?Xendless Xurbia?. The tenth message was posted on October 10 with a photo of the band drinking tea.

There has been a lot of speculation over Radiohead?s emphasis of ten surrounding the release of In Rainbows. One theory suggests that Radiohead was typifying a binary code of ones and zeros, 1010101010. This has come to be known as the Binary Theory, also called the TENspiracy by some.

Puddlegum first addressed the Binary Theory in Radiohead: 1010101010. Someone associated with Thom Yorke contacted Puddlegum, sharing Thom?s reaction to Puddlegum?s article:

?The meaning behind all of this is right in front of our faces, we?re just overlooking it. [Thom] has been expecting an article much like this one for a couple of years, as have I. But I?m willing to wager he?ll have fun waiting a few more. On the other hand, it seems to annoy him that no one ?gets it? yet, given the mountain of clues.?

Ten days after our original article, we have come to believe that OK Computer and In Rainbows were meant to complement each other. During the writing and recording process of OK Computer, Radiohead used the working title of Zeros and Ones. If OK Computer is represented by 01, and In Rainbows is represented by 10, then we have 01 and 10. In binary code 01 and 10 complement each other.

Consider that In Rainbows was meant to complement OK Computer, musically, lyrically, and in structure. We found that the two albums can be knit together beautifully. By combining the tracks to form one playlist, 01 and 10, we have a remarkable listening experience. The transitions between the songs are astounding, and it appears that this was done purposefully.

The lyrics also seem to complement each other. There appears to be a concept flowing through the 01 and 10 playlist. Ideas in one song is picked up by the next, such as ?Pull me out of the aircrash,? and ?When I?m at the pearly gates, this will be my videotape.?

To create the 01 and 10 playlist, begin with OK Computer?s track one, Airbag, and follow this with In Rainbow?s track one, 15 Step. Alternate the albums, track by track, until you reach Karma Police on OK Computer, making All I Need the tenth track on the 01 and 10 playlist. Follow Karma Police with Fitter Happier from OK Computer, for tracks eleven and twelve. These two tracks act as a bridge between the first ten and the following ten tracks on the 01 and 10 playlist. Then continue to alternate the albums again, picking up with Faust Arp on In Rainbows, with Electioneering on OK Computer as the following track.

Radiohead - 01 and 10 playlist:
1. Airbag (OK Computer)
2. 15 Step (In Rainbows)
3. Paranoid Android (OK Computer)
4. Bodysnatchers (In Rainbows)
5. Subterranean Homesick Alien (OK Computer)
6. **** (In Rainbows)
7. Exit Music (For A Film) (OK Computer)
8. Weird Fishes/Arpeggi (In Rainbows)
9. Let Down (OK Computer)
10. All I Need (In Rainbows)
11. Karma Police (OK Computer)
12. Fitter Happier (OK Computer)
13. Faust Arp (In Rainbows)
14. Electioneering (OK Computer)
15. Reckoner (In Rainbows)
16. Climbing Up The Walls (OK Computer)
17. House Of Cards (In Rainbows)
18. No Surprises (OK Computer)
19. Jigsaw Falling Into Place (In Rainbows)
20. Lucky (OK Computer)
21. Videotape (In Rainbows)
22. The Tourist (OK Computer)

lay off the crack, guy. i\'ll have to listen to this, although i\'m not much of a radiohead fan.

well, i\'m intruiged for sure. i\'m gonna set this playlist up on my ipod for sure and give it a go. has it really been 10 years since OK Computer? Jesus Christ. It seems literally like yesterday...

I\'ve always been confused by physical packaging for digital goods. Why ship hunks of plastic all over the world when I can click and download an identical product without anyone having to leave their homes?

Well, obviously, digital music (and video) has taken off in the last few years. But still, the recording industry is intent on relying on those antiquated slabs of plastic as their premium product.

Well, when Radiohead finished with it\'s six-album contract with EMI, they decided to change the system a bit. Their most recent album (the first in two years) was recently released in pure digital form. The band made the download available for whatever cost people are interested in paying. Apparently the average price paid has been roughly $8...significantly more than a band gets from a cut of traditional album sales.

It\'s a fascinating experience. The recording industry has long believed that people, in the end, want to purchase something physical. As if the plastic and paper of the product is more impotant than the actual music. Radiohead, however, is asking people what they think the music...and only the music...is worth. The answer, it\'s worth more, as long as the record companies don\'t take their cut.

More money for Radiohead, less money for us, and less physical crap existing in the world. That\'s good news for everyone, right? Oh...except the record companies....it\'s not good news for them.

I still have not slept but I got my download, listened to ****. I agree with OMS, radiohead albums get better with time. It will take a few listens before I can really get into the album.

I have only listened once, but I like:

15 Step, Weird Fishes, Faust Arp and Jigsaw Falling Into Place.  I need to give it a closer listen tonight, but I think it is a little unfocused.  It seemed to not really have a flow to it.  The songs are really good, but it seems to build nicely but then lose momentum too much.  Again I need to listen again, but I def don\'t think they touched any of their best stuff here(album wise).

2 listens last night, on the way to and from the webster.

i\'m not big on it so far. it really sounds like a continuation of The Eraser - which i liked, but i was expecting different.

favorite song so far is Jigsaw Falling Into Place, track 9.

i\'m sure it\'ll grow on me. like i said, only 2 listens so far, but right now i\'d go like this:

1. The Bends / OK Computer
2. Kid A / Amnesiac
3. Hail To The Thief
4. In Rainbows
5. Pablo Honey

The moderator that put up the sendspace file did write that he did it because people were having troubles with the e-mails and downloads.

It looks legit, but is this site associated with the band or is it a fan site?  If it\'s the latter, I would question the legality of it.

I went to the radioheadlp7.com (http://boards.radioheadlp7.com/cgi-bin/YaBB2/YaBB.pl) link Dave had put up because I couldn\'t get onto the other one either. The Moderator of the board put up the sendspace (http://www.sendspace.com/file/c77mt6) link, so I would imagine it\'s perfectly legit.

You can read the thread here (http://boards.radioheadlp7.com/cgi-bin/YaBB2/YaBB.pl?num=1192050081) if you want to check it.

There is a sendspace of this here (http://www.sendspace.com/file/c77mt6). A lot easier than doing the two penny thing.

I guess that I\'m not really a good Radiohead fan because there are only three albums that I have listened to more than once - OK Computer / Pablo Honey / The Bends.  I have the rest of the albums and have listened to them, but they\'ve done nothing for me.  I\'ll download, for $1, the new album and give it a listen.  I don\'t know if it\'s me, but for the most part, I feel that my mood shifts to depressed after listening to the most recent albums. :duck:

after about 3 listens(i may change a little after some more)

i think this is radioheads second weakest album, with pablo honey being last on my list.dont get me wrong, its a good album, but it doesnt come close to the total greatness of okcomputer and kid a,and just dosent have as many songs that grab my attention as the bends, hail and amnesiac.there a lot of good songs,a few i dont care much for,but nothing really stands out as superb imo.i will give it a 7/10.it may grow on me,but for now thats my 2 cents.

best news i\'ve heard in a while.
up until thief i\'ve had the tradition of buying every release the day it comes out, and then despising it every time i play it for about a week or two. then they all turn into favorites, and i love the band more than before. can\'t wait to see what they\'ve got in store this time \'round.

Dear radiohead,

your site sucks ass. Don\'t make me waste another half hour repeatedly being told my security code doesn\'t match. one out of 15 tries I must have typed in what you wanted. I\'m trying to be one of the few people who are actually paying the full amount for your album and you\'re not making it very easy. Why the hell did you need a seperate site for this, with no contact info on it? just run it through w.a.s.t.e.

Also, if I end up with 15 copies of this being billed to me I\'m going to be severly pissed off. I never got any email conformations though, so I don\'t think that will be a problem.

yea, plus if they made the album themselves, in their own studios on there own time and produced it themselves, then there would not be all the label hierarchy taking a cut, so if they usually only make 2 cents a copy and they sell it for 2 cents, they are still breaking even. **** brilliant.

Still planning on getting the big box set thingie in december, comes with the download included.  You really don\'t know with radiohead though. Still I know **** and that\'s a great song. Rest of them look new to me.

very interesting...but once ITUNES takes a cut, the lawyers get their hands on some, mangement, publicists, the studio time gets paid back and a million other expenses, the band will get......??????

there\'s no itunes involved. that would pretty much defeat the purpose of what they\'re trying to do. the download is available from their website and their website only.

Reminds me of public radio.  A few times a year they ask you for a donation, as to what you feel their services are worth, and thats how they pay their bills.  Should be interesting to see how this works with music.  I seriously bet they can make more money per CD this way than releasing it via big label.

Thats pretty awesome, paying whatever you want to download it off their site!

I might not even look at torrent search engines now, I\'ll just be patient and give them a buck or two.

I wonder what this album will be like hahaha you never know with these guys.

Okay people! Take a couple deep breaths, count to 10, switch the caps lock off, clean up the triple espresso you just spit all over the computer screen, and check this: that new Radiohead album, In Rainbows? The one that the world knew practically zilch about 24 hours ago? The one that drops digitally (DRM-free, no less!) in nine days, for a price of your own choosing? The one that\'s also coming out in a deluxe "discbox" in December? Well, it\'s also coming out in good, old fashioned CD format early next year.

No word on when exactly or through which label-- if any label at all-- but that\'s the news thus far from the band\'s publicist.

So, let\'s sort this whole mess out, shall we? You will eventually have three ways to pick up the seventh Radiohead LP, the Nigel Godrich-produced In Rainbows. It all depends how much you want to pay, which goodies you\'d like, and how soon you want the tunes. Observe:

1. As a DRM-free mp3 download, beginning October 10 (and available for preorder now), via http://www.inrainbows.com (interestingly enough, last week\'s RickRoll, http://www.radioheadlp7.com, now directs here as well). This version contains the 10 tracks that comprise In Rainbows, and you can pay whatever the hell you want for it. This is basically the band leaking the album and asking you for a donation to access it.

2. As part of a deluxe "discbox", available for preorder now and shipping in December. In addition to the 10-track In Rainbows on CD, you also get the release on LP and as a digital download, plus an enhanced bonus CD packed with eight more tracks, photos, and artwork (and an LP of the bonus tracks), plus art and lyrics booklets and some nifty looking packaging. This thing costs £40.00/$81.00.

3. As a traditional CD, available in early 2008. This will presumably cost as much as traditional CDs tend to cost.

What Radiohead\'s doing here is actually pretty cool. Rather than preface their new album\'s release with the usual three months of press ballyhoo, only to have it leak at some random time before it comes out, they\'ve kept it completely under wraps, then essentially gone and leaked it themselves. What\'s more, they\'ve turned this into a moral question of sorts, by giving us the freedom to pay actual money for what amounts to an album leak.

Only a band in Radiohead\'s position could pull a trick like this. Well played, gentlemen.

  Hello everyone.
Well, the new album is finished, and it\'s coming out in 10 days;
We\'ve called it In Rainbows.
Love from us all.
Jonny
Yup, that\'s right. A new Radiohead album, out October 10! Nice surprise, huh? It\'s called In Rainbows, duh. And it appears that Radiohead have chosen to not sign with a record label and are releasing it themselves via their website, at least for now.
And that\'s probably the least crazy aspect of this whole thing.
You can pre-order it from their website right now as a download or a "discbox." What\'s a discbox? Why, it\'s pretty sweet:
"THIS CONSISTS OF THE NEW ALBUM, IN RAINBOWS, ON CD AND ON 2 X 12 INCH HEAVYWEIGHT VINYL RECORDS.
A SECOND, ENHANCED CD CONTAINS MORE NEW SONGS, ALONG WITH DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHS AND ARTWORK.
THE DISCBOX ALSO INCLUDES ARTWORK AND LYRIC BOOKLETS.
ALL ARE ENCASED IN A HARDBACK BOOK AND SLIPCASE.
THE ALBUM DOWNLOAD AUTOMATICALLY COMES WITH THIS PACK."

  (https://thebreakfast.info/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fcms.pitchforkmedia.com%2Fimages%2Fimage%2F38177.12big.jpg&hash=6c00fcb2baaab994bf3e8043c572b0b12670e0fa)
Daamn, that\'s awesome! And even though the discbox doesn\'t ship until "on or before" December 3, you can get the download starting October 10.
But what\'s the catch? It costs ?40.00 including postage-- no matter where you live in the world. Which for us Yanks means about $81.00. Of course, this is Radiohead we\'re talking about, so money is no object, right? Right.
And lest you think Radiohead are ripping their fans off, check this out: If you order the download only, you can pay HOWEVER MUCH MONEY YOU WANT for it. Like, there\'s no set price. Like, I just paid eight bucks for the new Radiohead album. Maybe you can pay zero dollars?
  Check out the tracklist:
  CD one and vinyl:

01 15 STEP
02 BODYSNATCHERS
03 ****
04 WEIRD FISHES/ARPEGGI
05 ALL I NEED
06 FAUST ARP
07 RECKONER
08 HOUSE OF CARDS
09 JIGSAW FALLING INTO PLACE
10 VIDEOTAPE

CD two and vinyl:

01 MK 1
02 DOWN IS THE NEW UP
03 GO SLOWLY
04 MK 2
05 LAST FLOWERS
06 UP ON THE LADDER
07 BANGERS AND MASH
08 4 MINUTE WARNING
So yeah, lots of stuff that we expected.

"Haha, the entire record industry is so ****!"

well, that\'s a fantastic surprise! although, i do have to say, they better release a CD-only version of it, cause there\'s no way i\'m dropping $80 on it. if they don\'t, i\'ll just download it.
