if you\'re out of the loop like me;
Zolpidem (Ambien) is a prescription short-acting nonbenzodiazepine hypnotic that potentiates gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), an inhibitory neurotransmitter, by binding to benzodiazepine receptors which are located on the gamma-aminobutyric acid receptors.[1] Zolpidem is used for the short-term treatment of insomnia. It works quickly (usually within 15 minutes) and has a short half-life (2-3 hours).

Recreational use of this drug (specifically the Ambien brand) is becoming more common in young people. Recreational users claim that "fighting" the effects of the drug by forcing themselves to stay awake will sometimes cause vivid visuals and a body high (see side-effects below). However, in some people who are already in an anxious state, or suffer from neurosis it is not hard, if a struggle at all, to fight the side effect of sedation, experiencing the side-effect of euphoria more than the sedation itself. Some recreational users report decreased anxiety, and even mild to moderate euphoria, as well as perceptual changes, visual distortions, and sometimes hallucinations. Auditory distortions have been reported in some users. Odd behavior, confusion, and loss of balance have been reported among the various effects of the drug,

[evil]she ended up completely ruling the day!! she even got a kick out of the fact that on one of the worst possible days her fiance drugged her and she still got through it quite productively. next time she complains about her job, i\'m just gonna threaten to re-ambien-ize her. you know, so she can rememer how much she rules! [/evil]!!!

the good side of things is that she\'s not blaming me
As I read through this thread I was thinking my reply was going to be "soooo...the wedding\'s when?"
Hope she made it through ok!!

ya in my young college days i took some ambien and tripped out a bit.... mostly a very visual effect for me, was seein double for hours.... anyhoo, hope she works hard!
-
bd~ that\'s what happened! i gave it to her instead of a xanax to calm her down for work. so all day she\'s been struggling against tripping ballz! the first time she took one, she stayed up for an hour or more past when she should have gone to bed (we didn\'t know just how long it would take to kick in). sure enough, she started telling me a story at 11 and by 12 i was begging her to get to the end. she kept going in these weird brain-loops!! the same handful of phrases over and over... she\'s gotten better since she\'s taken them more often, but she says that all day she\'s been somewhere between falling asleep and just out there!
she\'s troopering it out, though! i\'m on my way over to her office to give support right now. she doesn\'t think she\'ll be able to finish anytime before midnight, unfortunately. the good side of things is that she\'s not blaming me, it really was just one of those things that murphy\'s law just grabs ahold of... this was really just the topper on an already nutso morning....
hey murphy, eat a d, mmmmkay?!

Sounds like she musta had a lllooonngg day alright.
That sucks having to start out a new position at work that way! though couldve made for good luck for the future.always bright sides.:)
me on the other hand, would probably have been overcome with joy. JUST TEASING.. sorta

You\'re lucky strugglin to sleep is all that happened to her.
A lot of the time if you take ambien and don\'t fall asleep within like 30 minutes like you\'re supposed to... you trip ballz
for real try it some time, works best with 20mg ;)
-
Oh man!!
You\'re gonna have to fill us in on how her day went.
-
wow - that\'s a rough first day...
well, at least someday she\'ll hopefully laugh about the incident :?:
-
oof.
Sorry to hear about it. Next time pay more attention to details.
Hope all is well and tomorrow is a new day, another try to make it right.
Good luck.

yeah, so, today is jill\'s first day in her new, $14k pay raise position. there were screw ups last night that made her not able to get yesterday\'s stuff done, plus she has all the new stuff (her\'s and another person\'s) due for today. so, knowing that this was gonna be a crazy stress day, she started having an early morning panic attack. trying to help, i asked if she wanted a xanax. she said yes, they\'re in her purse. so i go downstairs, open her purse, pull out the pill bottle and take her one pill, replacing the bottle. i leave for work a few minutes later. about halfway here, i get a phone call. its jill. she\'s tring to contain it, but she\'s FREAKING out. are you SURE you gave me a xanax????? yes, they were in your purse, right? only about ten left??? OOOOHHHHH NNNNNOOOOO!! !!!!! those were my AMBIEN!!!! i had them in there too so i could order more, and i forgot to tell you!!!!
yep, at about 8am, i gave jill an f\'ing ambien to send her to work calmly. an AMBIEN!!! so, i u-turned immediately and headed home, calling mothers, pharmacies and doctors on the way. did you know that there\'s no real way to counteract an ambien? yeah, neither did i. the pharamcist just said, \'pump her full of caffiene\'. gee, thanks. i got her coffee, red bulls and finally drove her in to work, telling her boss what i\'d done in the meantime.
auspiscious beginning to the new job, huh??? i feel about dumb as **** for not double checking the label right about now.... girl is STRUGGLIN with no end to her day in sight yet!!
