mark~ definitely! there was a recent blog by the guy who owns/runs the studio in the bahamas they\'re using to record their new album. his respect for jimmy was impressive. as a professional in the studio to his setup (apparently he thinks only a few people could use jimmy\'s gear without it overloading on them). i\'ll see if i can find the link....

found it~

We are very, very fortunate this time to have the great Jimmy Herring on lead guitar. Not that we were ever suffering for that instrument, or lacking anything! Jimmy is just one of those rare players that can come along and make something appear in a higher plane that it might have a right to.

Jimmy has his own special setup for stage, and was concerned about getting it right in the studio. His sound is so good, that I didn\'t see any need to change it. So, as mentioned before in another thread, I used a pretty complicated (for me) setup and microphone technique for the actual lead guitar.

todd, let me look for another torrent. panicstream probably has it, too...

ahhh, here it is on digitalpanic. Its the 24 bit though... (http://digitalpanic.org/bittorrent/showthread.php?p=123619) frankly, i\'d grab robclarke\'s bethel woods show... right here (http://bt.etree.org/details.php?id=508426)

Yes JH is super nice and modest guy, that\'s why I like him all the more.  I also hear he is one of the hardest working musicians behind the scene with practice time etc.

i wish herring was a dirtier player so he\'d fit into Panic better. that being said, i also love his aru/jid/etc playing. and he\'s a HELL of a nice guy! easy to talk to, personable as all get out, and slyly funny, taboot!

Has JP learned how to pronounce the word "Breakfast" yet.  Every time he introduced the band, it sounded like "Psychedelic Breafast".

Definitely wish Jimmy Herring had a better backing band too.
Al Z no sexual harrassment with JP.  he\'s a nut though!

My thought on Panic - I wish Jimmy Herring had a better backing band.

We saw JP, from the barn in Enfield, I don\'t know who remembers him, or the night I punched him in the back, it was pretty funny.

What sexual harassment were you subjected to on that occasion?

There was a JP sighting at The Wheelhouse last month.

Went to the show, haven\'t seen WSP since Toads show.02??
Not so many people there.
Jimmy Herring is great, he rips.
I heard a few songs "traveling light" I haven\'t heard in a while.  My fav. album is Everyday.
People in attendance I haven\'t seen in a while:

And some fat dude that is gay, he used to go to the barn shows.  I remember Jordan and I were hanging with him, and he could give a **** what I said, but hung on every word he said.  Like I said, gay as balls.  He used to give bootleg cd\'s in return for a little something something(just kidding about the something, something)...trust me he don\'t like the ladies.
Nice to see Mark, Dwayne and Scotty Law!

I love the way they sound with Jimmy... about 100X better than George.  I never really got into Jimmy that much until now, but what I like about him is his versatility... he sounds almost exactly like Houser when a certain song requires that to sound right, yet he gets all fast & heavy-metal at other times.

very true.....jimmy is 1000x better than george with WSP

Interesting review.  To each his own, but... while I can understand someone not liking Jojo\'s voice, I can\'t understand saying that his solos are boring... IMO, he is one of the best "rock-n-roll" keyboardists out there.... definitely not jazzy or "funky" per say, but very fast and a great fit for Panic.

yeah, i agree, mark. he\'s too smooth for panic . not nearly dirty and nasty enough. although, he can be, he\'s not usually.

This show was good, not great. It was nice having Sunny back in the lineup.  A lot of personal favorite songs I was hoping to hear but didn\'t.  Many songs on the slow/mellow side. Jimmy is awesome, but personally I like him more with Jazz is Dead, Project Z, and ARU.

I fully agree with this guy about the drum solo\'s........too boring and bring all the energy of a show down

sounds like a ok show, nothing good.  A couple friends went to the boston show and said that one was raging

looks like a typical midweek show, with the wonderful exception of gimme! some realy nice tunes, but mostly holding back. sunny was back for this show, however!

Venue:

This place is amazing, plus it\'s only 20 minutes from my home. I only wish more bands would play there. Great parking, no line to get in, no beer lines, outside patio, huge clean bathrooms, etc... PLUS theye were playing the Yankee game on an HD plasma towards the back of the lobby. Nice!

Crowd:

the place was about half full, maybe a little more (55-60% capacity) from what I saw. the overall energy of the crowd was pretty tame if you ask me, but everyone seemed to be getting down and having fun. and I came to the realization that Panic fans are just as annoying as Phish fans...less wooks though, which was nice.

Show:

Papa Legba - never heard this before but I recognized the name as the song went on. solid opening song if you ask me. Herring is just unreal.

Hope in A Hopeless World - meh. sounds like something the Wallflowers would do.

Heroes - I like this song but didn\'t recognize what it was until it was over. solid version.

Smoking Factory - don\'t remember much about it

Better Off - don\'t remember much about it

Gimme (a Kiss on Tuesday) > - don\'t remember much about it

Casa del Grillos > - never heard this song before but I really enjoyed it. great vibe to it.

Rebirtha > - Herring is the man. awesome!

She Caught the Katy - never heard them do this before, really enjoyed it! solid cover.

****The whole 2nd set kinda bored me overall. Maybe I was just tired (I get up at 5am) but it was getting a little old. I would\'ve left mid set if I was by myself but alas I wasn\'t so we stayed til the end.

Surprise Valley > - I recognized this but couldn\'t remember the name.

Drums > - holy ****! a 10 minute conga solo????? I know it was his 1st night back and all but what an uninspired borefest. bathroom break > watched the Yankee game in the lobby until it was over.

Surprise Valley - solid ending from what I remember.

Mercy > Henry Parsons Died - i guess it was decent but I was pretty much bored by this time and just waiting for it to end.

E: Slipping Into Darkness > Traveling Light - TL is a great tune, solid version.

Thoughts:

1. Jimmy Herring is **** unreal.

2. JB grows on me more and more each time I see them. He\'s truly a great singer and he\'s a much better guitarist than I previously thought. great frontman.

* I liked it when he would smile and start nodding when Jimmy did something he liked.

3. they\'re a solid band and I can see why people really enjoy them but overall their songs just don\'t do much for me. i really like some of them but most of em...meh.

4. JoJo should never sing....ever! unless it\'s backing vocals. I firmly believe that I can sing just as well as him if not better. and his solos do nothing for me at all. boring and uninspired.

5. I watched Schools a lot and he\'s a very good bassist but nothing special. he had some chunky basslines but I wasn\'t blown away by him.

Last: i really don\'t see myself paying to see them again. They\'re good and all but just not my thing. If the ticket prices were like $15 or $20 I\'d go, but other than that, no thanks. More room for you.

Have fun ripping this review apart.

Crickets in the Panic thread.  Nice try Marcial.  If you want to know how the show was couldn\'t you go to spreadheads.info or tractorbabes.net or something like that?  hehe.

I look forward to some opinions on how the show was.  They are currently playing without Sunny (percussionist) who had a death in the family.  There have been several folks filling in for him, but I can\'t imagine the sound is at full potential without him.

Should be a good time. Was thinking about while I drove past the Oakdale this afternoon but I can\'t get out of work. Dobson had to back out due to work.
