Would you be in favor of a satellite or tracking-device based system that mailed you a ticket any time you ever broke the spped limit on an interstate if the speed limits nationwide were raised? Remember, the moment you go over the limit, you\'re getting a ticket mailed to you. But the speed limits are at a reasonable level nationwide and there are no maniacs doing 120 and causing a frakas.
There was supposed to be a poll but it didn\'t come up. Grr....
i laugh in the face of speed limits..
Ill stick to how things are right now. Ill take my chances with testing the current speed limits.
i think im down with automatic
**** if the limit was like 90 and there were like 5 lines on every interstate so you never got stuck in traffic
I bet if I-84 had 15 lanes, there would still be traffic.
no way! when i\'ve got a highway all to myself and i wanna punch it a little, i dont need no damn satelite givin me
****.
I\'ll take my chances with the cops & lower limits.
i hate cops, they are so fickle, it probably would just be easier to have something more concrete.... but theres no way to be sure it would be 100% so on second thought its probably a completely unrealistic idea
cops suck but i agree with jim "i dont need no damn satelite givin me
****"
Increased limits? yes...
Automatic Ticket? hellz no...
People drive way to fast as it is. Some people shouldn\'t even be on the road. I think that we would be in some serious trouble if granny and poppa went out on a Sunday drive and little tony next door decided to punch the gas flying at 80 MPH. Coming up fast behind an oil tanker and good ol granny.
Tommy: You\'re drivin\' along, la-de-da, woo. All of a sudden there\'s a truck tire in the middle of the road. And you hit the brakes. EEEEEEEEE!!! Whoa, that was close. Ha-ha. Now let\'s see what happens when you\'re driving with the "other guy\'s" brake pads. You\'re drivin\' along, you\'re drivin\' along, the kids start shouting from the back seat, "I gotta go to the bathroom, Daddy!" "Not now, damn it!" Truck tire. EEEEEEEE!! I CAN\'T STOP!!
[Slams model car into lighter]
Tommy: There\'s a cliff! AAAAAHH!! And your family\'s screaming,
[sets car on fire]
Tommy: "Oh my God, we\'re burning alive!" "No! I can\'t feel my legs!" Here comes the meat wagon.
[Imitates siren]
Tommy: And the medic gets out and says, "Oh my God". New guy\'s around the corner puking his guts out.
[Imitates retching]
Tommy: All because you want to save a couple extra pennies. And to me, it doesn\'t...
besides, people\'s insurance will skyrocket. we\'d all be doomed.

:that: I\'ll still take my chances with my radar detector!!

eh, unless I\'m going to shows, I\'m not really on the highway anymore so I\'m pretty indifferent. I can see some speed limit raises in certain areas, but it depends on alot of factors with the traffic paterns, condition of the road and shape of road (# of lanes, degree of bends, incline percentage of hills, etc).
As far as the automatic speed tracking, it would be interesting to see how accurate it could be. Lets say it tracks you from point a to point b, say new haven to hartford on 91 (37 miles):
Assume the speed limit is 65 the whole way (it\'s not), it should take you 0.57 hours (35 minutes) to travel the distance.
From exit 2-8 your stuck in rush hour and can only go 40 mph. From exit 8-22 your doing 90mph, but then you have to slow back down and you hit rush hour again the rest of the way into hartford, doing 20-40mph. You take the exit in hartford exactly 35 mintues after leaving new haven. So, you must have been doing the speed limit for the whole trip. However technically you were driving under the speed limit for part, and way over the speed limit for another part. How would your system handel this situation?
Here\'s another one: would you be in favor of CT instituting toll booths again as a way to raise money to finally finish some of these work zones. All money would only be used by DOT for work on state owned roads. Discuss.

I think I saw a problem like this on the SATs.
I\'m pretty sure that a satelite would be able to tell in very short distances if you are speeding....but it would take a
**** load of time to program them for road differences. A satelite will be looking at a flat surface, while in reality you have hills, lanes around a curve are different distances, etc., etc. Doesn\'t seem like anything that will be happening any time soon.
Oh, btw, where did this come from Wolf?
that kinda ruins the \'if you don\'t get caught its not breaking the law\' effect.

toll booths are extremely primitive, and would do nothing but make the traffic situation in CT worse than it already is. most of our highways aren\'t big enough for toll booths anyways.
imo, if it ever does happen, do what canada does. a picture of your license plate is taken when you get on and off the highway, and you get a bill in the mail. it would still suck to pay more to drive, but at least it wouldn\'t be an inconvenience.
