it\'s not worth it for me to go to one 18+ show out of the month.
Why? That doesn\'t make sense at all. It\'s what I had to do when I was underage. Does it have to be all or nothing? Why not go to the one show a month? I don\'t get it.
no
****, try only having 1 chance every 4-6 months to see them. no offense ant-man, but please remove your melon from your brown hole.
personally i think if you can find a REAL i.d. from someone who really truly resembles yourself, go for it. most places i go are looking for real id\'s, they arent crazy about the picture unless its way off/opposite sex/etc. its a long-shot for places to get fined for someone using a genuine state issued i.d. thats \'arguably\' them or not.. however, i know of some places in college towns that get paid to pull i.d.\'s from people. as for buying booze with a fake i.d., same thing, if it\'s real and it looks like you just find a liquor store with Indians running shop... they NEVER give a
****. i shot 100% for the 3 years i used my brother\'s i.d., only got denied from a couple bars (always for shows btw) in that span and they still let me leave w/the i.d. its all about confidence and staying calm when they question you.
i do realize, though, that im speaking on behalf of the greater Chicago-land area, a lot of posts make me think that out East theyre stricter.
If you read the previous posts you would see that I said it was more of a statement. That I would go to shows with an ID and I\'m done \'sneeking\' in.
Ant\'s statement about giving wine to minors with parental consent got me wondering, so i started looking through the CT Liquor Codes
Sec. 30-86. Sales to minors...
(b) Any permittee...who sells or delivers alcoholic liquor to any minor...shall be fined not more than one thousand five hundred dollars or imprisoned not more than eighteen months, or both...
however there is a fake id provision that protects the bar owners:
The provisions of this section shall not apply to a sale, shipment or delivery made in good faith to a minor who practices any deceit in the procurement of an identity card issued in accordance with the provisions of section 1-1h, who uses or exhibits any such identity card belonging to any other person or who uses or exhibits any such identity card that has been altered or tampered with in any way,
oh, and Ant was right, the parental consent provision:
(3) to a shipment or delivery made to a minor by a parent, guardian or spouse of the minor, provided such parent, guardian or spouse has attained the age of twenty-one and provided such minor possesses such alcoholic liquor while accompanied by such parent, guardian or spouse.
By no means did I go through these codes with a fine tooth comb, but I did find it strange that I saw no mention of it being illegal for someone under the age of 21 to be in the establishment.
cops busting into porters = ser false scare..........there was no need for anyone to be kicked out of a place where some dude is wailing on drums. just plain bullshit
False scare? Porter\'s is practically out of business as it is. There is no doubt that one raid and they\'re toast. Maybe
you\'re not scared of the cops raiding the place, fine, but Porter\'s management most certainly is, and it\'s their house. I completely agree with you that it\'s retarded to raid a bar where some guy is just wailing on drums for a bunch of hippies while the club down the street has 23 year old dudes slipping roofies to 18 year old girls, but we all know that the cops don\'t give a
****.
My fake worked great until once someone asked me whether in Delaware we call ourselves "Delawarites" or "Delawareans." Guess I should have thought about that one. he he
that sucks! trick question. both are actually correct. but how does not knowing that blow your cover? i don\'t know if i am a connecticutian or is there is even a term for it.
Well it never REALLY did blow my cover. I think the guy knew it was fake but had every intention of letting me in. He just wanted to mess around with my head a bit. He also asked me if it was real nice along the shore, etc.
Now that you mention it, I don\'t know what I am called being from New Hampshire.
I never had any doubt growning up in MA though. Masshole, obviously.
In CT, the bar area must be 21+. The "bar area" must be enforcably seperate from the rest of the venue. In bars that allow 18+ people, the enforcably separate "bar area" usually has only one or at most two ways in and out to the rest of the venue and is walled off as much as possible. (Walk into any TGI Friday\'s or Chili\'s and you\'ll see what I mean.) It might be possible that Porter\'s could legally run 18+ shows upstairs if they did not open the upstairs bar. They certainly didn\'t need it on Thursday night, they could have made up the 15 extra drinks they probably sold on ticket sales to 18-20 year olds. But I don\'t know if they can run an 18+ show or not...they never have, it\'s very grey-area. I\'m sure they could if they payed their protection dues, but they probably can\'t pay those right now.

Now that you mention the way chain restaurants set up there bars, it all makes sense.
Oh, and Chris, you\'re a Nutmegger. Get it right!
I feel like I should have been in on this thread a while ago.
I have never owned a fake I.D. Though I have been to several 21+ shows, I have only snuck into one, as I was not carded at the others (via being with the band/showing up early/looking old enough). I don\'t drink at all when driving and I don\'t drink at shows (\'cepting TP 232 Wooster shows).
I think I\'m the oldest of the under 21 crowd here (Bday=11/22/84) so I have the least to complain about now. Although I have been dealing with 21+ (and even 18+ for a year) Breakfast shows since early 2002.
Ya dude, hang in there your almost there...I\'ve got two years.
Porter\'s WILL allow 18+ downstairs. That\'s why they built that wall between the "restaurant" area and the bar DOWNSTAIRS. BUT, when the bar is open upstairs, it\'s 21+ only. I had a talk with Scott (one of the owners) the other night, trying to get Bezerker, et al to get back in. They screwed themselves by walking upstairs. Nothing I could do!

...which would have been great when there was a gigantic hole in the floor and you could see upstairs... but of course, the wall came after the hole was gone...

ahhh...the hole....I will NEVER EVER forget watching Tribal>Mommy>Tribal from 3/12/04 Porters down on the first floor looking up through the hole....I could see TPalms and Save ROCKING!!!! It was a most amazing moment for me in my Breakfast life....

i didnt have a problem staying in, just the my friends from NH decided to order downstairs. no matter what - twas lamer than balls
I remember a show, I think it was last summer or even the summer before at Porter\'s that was 18+. I know this because i had people from school who were visiting CT and under 21 come to the show. One of them was 21 and purchased drinks for the others, and they got caught and were shown the door no more than 25 minutes after arriving. My guess is that stuff like that was happening at most of their shows and they didn\'t feel like tolerating it anymore. Or maybe the wall/separation thing wolfman mentioned went into effect afterwards. I don\'t really blame places that make their shows 21+, because the majority of underage kids are going to find someone buy them drinks anyway, not saying any of you here do that, but I know that many do. And don\'t take this the wrong way as I may sound like a prick for saying it; if you\'re under 21, deal with it.

camera crew shoulda got a shot of that.. that show is so f-in good, i watched it again yesterday.

Now that\'s what I\'m talkin\' about!
