Wolfman spread still stands with Bush as a 26 vote favorite in the electoral college.  I wonder if Vegas has odds on this.

Good call on the thread merge Dave. We definitely only need one of these. I ignore this thread most of the time now.

Leith, don\'t you think civil unions are sort of a cop out? Granted, they\'re better than nothing, and if a compromise (which is purely rhetoric really) of wording is what\'s necessary than I say yes let\'s go with civil unions. However, I am tired of people who say they "don\'t care if someone is gay" saying they think civil unions are ok but marriage is not. I think the idea of marriage (not civil union) is really symbolic for a lot of people as the ultimate way to express one\'s love for another person. Legal benefits aside, these people should be able to have their marriage I think.

No Jocelyn, I do not consider it a cop out. I do in fact believe some traditions should be held as they have been. I am all for equal rights but the act of marriage is not a right only the benefits(if there is any to marriage but that is another thread) accrured from marriage are. To tell u the truth I realized my cousin was gay when we were like 12 and i have always been there for him no matter what so I\'m not one of those people u mentioned above i don\'t think. It\'s just that I feel some things in this world should be left alone. It\'s enough that gays have appropriated the rainbow, something that represented the beauty and mystery of light and water mixed in nature has been twisted into the symbol for homosexuality disguised as a symbol for diversity. So much so that the University of Hawaii has changed their name from the Rainbow Warriors celebratring the colorful nature of the island tribes to just the warriors due to this. That is sad.

What becomes of Rainbow Bright?  You can\'t have a kids\' cartoon character associated with rainbows, the force of nature that homosexuals so rudely deprived us of.  How about "The Badass Princess of Darkness"?

I don\'t care if the rainbow is a gay pride symbol or not. I\'ll still wear my rainbow striped socks. Whatever.... the things people make a big deal out of...

I don\'t think rainbows are a valid comparison to marriage really... Maybe marriage it\'s not a "right." Not many things are really. The government has way too many laws defining what our right are. However, I don\'t think it is the government\'s place to outlaw it either.... **** it, all I can say is, I KNOW deep down in my heart that two people who love each other and want to get married should be able to do so; it\'s absurd to deprive anyone of that if no one is being hurt in the process.... I guess that doesn\'t mean much, there is no real way for me to make this argument; to argue one needs logic. And the way I feel about this topic does not comes from intellect, making it easy to discuss logically... it comes purely from instinct and emotion... so I guess I shouldn\'t bother to say anything else about it. I digress. *sigh*

I fully empathize with you Jocelyn. What you feel in your heart means alot just as how I and others feel means alot to us. I am just a person trying to hold on to values and traditions that i feel are being eroded. `The way our Pres. is trying to go about preserving some of these traditions is ludicrous I agree. I made the rainbow example just as an easy vision to grasp as I just can not see the rainbow w/o being a little sad now. So if I feel protective of a tradition no matter how silly it means something just as how u feel means something never discount how u feel even if it interferes w/ logic :)
