I could be wrong, but that\'s what my brother-in-law, who works for the gov told me.
as far as i\'m concerned i already paid for this check considering the US Gov
**** me of 6-8K last year
Where do you think they got the money for these checks. It either came from our taxes or some gov. program that\'s not going to receive all the funding that they thought was coming to them. This isn\'t new money, so I\'m not sure how recirculated money is supposed to stimulate the economy. If the gov. can do something to lower the price of gas, people might be more inclined to travel more and vacation, this sort of stimulating the economy by way of vacation destinations. I\'m in Passaic County, NJ and I already know that the farthest I\'m going this summer is Ocean/Monmouth County to stay with my father.
The rebate is not taxable income for 2008. Just a freebie (even though in theory, "There Ain\'t No Such Thing As A Free Lunch" ).
come on, big money! mama needs to pay off all those concert tickets she just bought. (and still wants to buy more, of course!)
You got it! As soon as it came in I used about half to totally overpay for Radiohead tickets. Invested the other half. Good compromise.
SkyePrizm...i am on your team...its so sad to be a grown up...and oh how i just loooove shopping!
I know!! I am trying to justify buying a new swimsuit from victoria\'s secret cause its on "sale".... i don\'t know whats worse, my in-person shopping or online...

 you mean, they don\'t just print more money when they need it?!
I definitely agree that this tax refund is NOT going to do our country any good at all. Though it will help places like China and India which produces many goods for our country. :sigh:
Best thing they could have done was taken all the money from these rebates and relieved our astronomical gas prices. That would have saved me about $50-$100 per week for the year... and would\'ve much better use of the money rather than foolish spending.

And how would they do that? Pass out $600 gas cards instead? Cut the gas tax? Toss the environmentalists aside and allow major domestic drilling where the are proven reserves to bring those resources online (ie outer continental shelf, ANWR...)? Give the Strategic Petroleum Reserve away for free to all the Freespirits? Take over all major reserves worldwide via military campaign and use them exclusively for our benefit? I\'m really curious to hear your explanation of how the price for gas and oil is determined, and why it has been rising of late. I better run out and grab a popcorn for that one.

We taxpayers are so foolish. I think I\'ll let the gov\'t tax me 100% since I have no clue how to run my life and where to allocate my $$.
 You\'re totally right, AlZ. Help the economy... buy a Breakfast Tshirt!
Buy lots of music from unknown bands and save a bunch for a rainy day, a.k.a. The Breakfast fall tour.
as long as cars run on gas and we heat our homes and businesses with oil we will never hear the end of it and it will just get more and more expensive. the 600 a person could have went to actual research and advancements in home heating alternatives which would greatly reduce our NEED to consume oil.
it actually cost more money to make money than it\'s actually worth
one word: Wii
(or a 360 or PS3 but probably a Wii)
the rest I\'ll prob put towards car payments.
