Poor people should just become Atheists. There, problem solved. :duck:

merry christmas to you all.  let\'s all gather round the warm, lumnious glow of the yule log for another year.  let\'s all sing a carol or two ar buy another christmas cd for christ\'s sake.  give, give, give.  oh wait...you can\'t unless you buy, buy, buy.  just what we need.  a country where a lot of people have to sacrifice buying food and clothing to compensate for the brutal ass **** that we have all suffered at the hands of the oil companies.  ya know, the ones who really run the show in america.  if we can\'t afford the bare essentials to live so we can drive, i mean we shouldn\'t have a problem buying ridiculously over priced presents and most likely racking up even more credit card debt all for the sake of christmas and the holiday spirit, cuz that\'s what ya have to do.  i must just be a negative person for feeling that way.  well, i could get nothing and be perfectly happy just to be with my family, jen and friends.

wait, jesus wasn\'t born on december 24th?!?  those dumb pagans must\'ve stolen the idea for a "winter solstice" and coincidently planned it interestingly close to his birth.  oh wait, i think it was the other way around.  ;)

With all due respect, if you live in the UK and still "wish it wasn\'t raining", maybe you should move.

Ouch, drew - suggest moving cos of the weather? Nope! Rain doesn\'t bother me, but if it means my little \'un can\'t go out, then it\'s a sod. However, it did dry up for a few hours today, so we managed to do a few circuits outside - Miss Steppenwolf is now born!! :)

I\'ve checked out of the "buying big" line on Christmas. I\'ve explained to my family (who is extremely materialistic and very large) that I just won\'t do it anymore. Christmas has always been stressful for me and I refuse to give up my values and what\'s important to me and anymore. I buy something for everyone, it\'s small, usually thoughtful, and costs me 30-40 bucks. If they aren\'t happy because I\'m not spending enough I laugh and say, "Ohhh the irony." I feel much better about Christmas these days.

My Uncle even bought me God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything by Christopher Hitchens and my family doesn\'t treat me like the Grinch because of my respect for their views and my silent but strong stance for mine.

I like Christmas more and more as I get older because I finally decided to detatch myself from all of the things I hated about the holiday, which were stated in leith\'s post. All I can do is this, so **** \'em if they don\'t want to listen or understand, and cool if they do.
The crickets and the rust-beetles scuttled among the nettles of the sagethicket. "Vamanos amigos," he whispered, and threw the busted leather flintscraw over the loose weave of the saddlecock. And they rode on in the friscalating dusklight.  --Eli Cash

Look at the culture we live in....what do you expect? Most people obsess over money, get caught up in consumerism/materialism, over eat, and drink too much, spend money they don\'t have, buy things they don\'t need, 365 days a year. Christmas just kicks everything up a notch or two.  I say enjoy it while it lasts.  Things might not be this good or this easy forever.  If you literally had no money and no family and no food and no beer and no headies and no breakfast shows to look forward to... my guess is you would all be wishing for a good old fashioned American Christmas. I know I would be. I would probably kick and scream like a little **** for a while if I had nothing to give or receive or enjoy with friends and family. Then I\'d pick myself up off the floor and get on with life. So enjoy the good stuff in moderation while it lasts, and try not to get too caught up in it all. Eat that extra cookie, have that extra glass of wine, enjoy that silly piece of electronics and plastic, just don\'t get too attached because sooner or later your going to have to leave it all behind anyway. Have a Merry Christmas Everyone :)

Very well said.

If you can and you want to, give to your family and friends.

If you can afford to give to those in need... even better.

If you can\'t, then don\'t.

If you don\'t want to, that\'s fine too.

Hope everyone enjoyed the holidays.
