Melanie - I look for work all day. I refuse to do some jobs because they are below my potential as a person.
i met you bro, you\'re def. overrating your potential.
You don\'t even know me.
I don\'t mean it in a bad way, the fact remains, not having a job after quite sometime isn\'t gonna get you anywhere. you might as well suck it up and get something, at least part time, for the time being, so you can eat and whatnot, and in the meantime look for something more career oriented.
nevermind, i read your later posts and noticed that.
No offense taken, I was just sarcastically responding.
I have taken b.s jobs but the problem I think I will face if I just take a job is that I will fall into a comfort zone and then waste time searching for a career. This was a sort of planned idea to target a career, it suddenly backfired when it started to keep going.
Nothing but respect for ya.
what are you qualified to do ?
When you say u just finished school are you talking about college or .....
what was your major ? what do you want to do ?
There are lots of working folks here. Perhaps if they knew what you were looking for they might be able to keep an eye out or let you know of a job opening.
just a suggestion.
Looking for work is hard becasue the work you do today (ie. sending resumes job searching etc) doesn\'t usually pay off for several days down the road etc and it is really easy to get down about it but you gotta keep plugging along. good luck.
Spacey, is using the method of patience to further himself in the community. I think, i dont know, im talking out my ass
Spaceman.......don\'t think i\'m trying to tell you what to do or anything like that, but if you are looking to get into a real company, try going through a temp agency. that\'s how I got into mass mutual and they hired me full time 2 months after that. just throwing that out there.....good luck too, it took me a while to get a real job
agreed. 4 months after finishing school, while sending out resumes the entire time, without a SINGLE interview, i was picked up by Robert Half (a big technological temp agency).. i had a 2-day contract doing crap data entry at the Gartner Group (big IT research/analysis group), followed by a 5-week contract doing crap data entry at Hyperion (big business software company)..
i say \'crap data entry\' because i was in the same boat as Spacey.. felt it was way below me, and just NOT what i went to school for..
that 5 weeks at Hyperion turned into a year and a half, at which time they hired me full-time. i\'ve now been there almost 3 years (total), and i\'m on my way to becoming their next DBA, and i couldn\'t be happier.. and it all started doing
**** that i completely did NOT want to be doing..
Spacey, if I could help you out I would, w/out question. But since the company I\'m w/ has the department I\'m in on the chopping block... you don\'t want my help.
Stick w/ the advice given by those like weekapaug and Peck. That has worked well for a few folks that I know... and I may need a good Temp. reference soooooon.
As far as the folk(s) advising you away from "going corporate"... don\'t listen to them. Having a job that pays well, includes benefits, vacation time, etc... isn\'t a bad way to live.
Almost all jobs are sales and I have a tough time trying to sell stuff to people who really don\'t need it and probably don\'t want it. I am not knocking anyone\'s work/profession. I just feel that I have more potential and can make more money if I hold out and find a job that I can build a career off of.
.
Depending upon the industry of course, sales jobs are among the most lucrative. Most sales-to-consumer jobs are bogus and that is what you are probably referring to.
Weekapaug19 thanks for the suggestion, a Temp Agency is my next move. I had a few friends who landed some serious jobs through temp to hire. Finding work sucks.
Or try permanent-hire recruiters (most staffing firms have both permanent and temp units).
dave-- just wondering what you went to school for??
as for you spacey-- like some others have mentioned on this topic it shouldnt matter whether your going corporate as long as you have a decent paying job as opposed to doing something you slightly dislike verus not going corporate and having no job. or having the job you love which doesnt pay
****anyways if your looking for something i heard they are hiring for both PTers and FTers on Timmy Tour!
dave-- just wondering what you went to school for??
i was a computer science major (programming-based)..
though my job is not programming-based, i am doing things that i never learned in school, and i love it. i\'ve learned more in the last 6 months at my company than i could ever imagine, and now i love what i\'m doing..
there\'s definitely something to be said for \'getting your foot in the door\'..

i hear that. experience is def. the best teacher
...or having the job you love which doesnt pay ****...
money doesn\'t buy happiness (it takes care of a lot of headaches) but you shouldn\'t walk away from a job you love because it doesn\'t pay well.
