and I am not sure what to do about it. I feel very bad for her. Also her hiccuping with her head on my lap feels kind of gross.

puppies, but the principle is the same:
Why does my puppy hiccup?
Category: Canine
My puppy sure seems to hiccup a lot these days. Is this normal?
A temporary spasm of the diaphragm.
It is completely normal for a puppy to have hiccups off and on throughout the day. Hiccups sometimes start after eating a meal, but can occur at any time and last for up to several minutes. A hiccup is defined as a non-controllable spasmodic contraction of the diaphragm, causing a beginning inspiration of air that is suddenly stopped by closure of the glottis. The diaphragm is a muscle that separates the chest from the abdomen. It enables the lungs to bring in air during inspiration. When the diaphragm contracts, the air is quickly drawn in, but the glottis, a part of the "voice box," suddenly cuts it off.
Puppy hiccups will come and go. Eventually puppies grow out of them.

sourceHiccups are perfectly normal in dogs. When my dog gets them, I talk to him in a calm voice and rub the area at the bottom of his breast bone...seems to help.

oh, I don\'t know, igzy\'s had a few real winners lately.
see, we have a scaredy dog. the wind blowing scares him, little bitty teeny weeny dogs scare him, babies scare him, strangers scare him, any loud noise anywhere scares him, treats at the wrong time scare him, airplanes scare him, distant noise from the highway scares him, a leaf falling from a tree scared him once....
he\'s a rescue dog who was badly abused before we got him, but its been almost two years and he is still afraid to walk down the sidewalk because sometimes people will open their doors and come out of their houses. they won\'t do anything or say anything, necessarily. still scares him, though. love us to death. and if you come into our house, he\'s ok. just don\'t knock. it scares him.
Aww. Poor little bugger.
Sadie is scare-able, but only if I have a vaccuum cleaner or am carrying a large object over my head. I just don\'t like the idea of intentionally scaring her.
