anyone who has ever been in the car with me has noticed that there are cds all over the place and i am not really embarassed about it...
with a new(er) and spiffy vehicle in my life now, i have decided to go ahead and get an ipod and eliminate the inevitable mess that will come if i don\'t do something soon.
i really know nothing about these cute lil devices other than the fact that they will make me look trendy. i know that there are different kinds/size capacities, etc..but really know nothing else.
does anyone here recommend a certain type? is there one made for poor college students such as myself? is there any place where i can get a good deal/online rebate??
whatever you do, get the warrenty plan,
and don\'t run with one...unless you have the nano (with the flash memory?)
I\'ve been through three of them
I just got one last week - 80GB video/pics/music... It\'s AWESOME!!! So far, I\'ve put about 500 songs on it, but it holds up to 20,000 total. They usually run about $300-$350 new. If you want a cheap one, TKA has one that is 20GB that he might be selling since we got the new one.
I\'d also recommend getting the Road Trip FM transmitter - it works through the radio station & charges the iPod @ the same time

Good luck!
Well does your new spiffy vehicle have an AUX input on the stereo ?
If it does all you need is a mini 1/8" to mini 1/8" cable. It is the same kind of connector you would have for headphones but on both ends.
A fair amount of new cars have the AUX in which would eliminate your need to have the radio transmitter thing.
If your car has a newer cd player many of them will play MP3\'s and WMA files burned to CD-R\'s. If yours is capable of this you could drastically cut down on the cd\'s in your vehicle and simply burn mp3\'s to cd\'s. That way you would not need a IPOD or any other mp3 player for your car.
I would say that you will dramatically reduce the quality of your listening experience by going the ipod or mp3 route but to each his / her own

i have no idea. i will definitely check it out and see..

i realize that, but at this point with the amount of cds that i have/the binders all over the car, i\'d rather just consolodate my music to one place. plus it might be nice to have the ipod walking around campus, at work, etc..
I\'ve had a 30G ipod for a couple years now. It\'s probably the best tech purchase I\'ve made in years.
Don\'t bother w/ a FM Transmitter, they work but not very well. Spending a little more so that you can plug directly into your car stereo will be well worth your $$.

So the ipod automatically = worse sound quality? f that s.
So the ipod automatically = worse sound quality? f that s.
cd quality = 16Bit/44.1khz
mp3\'s = a lossy encoding of the above so the quality of the music file is reduced when encoding to mp3. you can encode mp3\'s at higher bit rates and the reduction will be made less but it defeats the ability to fit lots and lots of files on the ipod. The higher the encoding rate the larger the files
CD = 80Minutes of audio at 16/44.1
well that sucks. the ipod is a good idea because you can put all of your music to one place, but if the sound quality is not so great than like i said before, f that s.
i go through ipods like i change my underwear.
oops,bad example.
you know what i mean though.
Ipods are the greatest, even though they go quick. I recommend going all out on an 80 gig. Contrary to belief Ipods CAN hold high quality music. It merely depends on what bitrate you decide to import your music to.
I got one of those FM transmitters when I bought a new car. It definetly worsens the audio quality. When I set it to the stateion 87.9 it is able to work from Wallingford to Boston without having the signal overridden. The one I bought cost $30, there are more expensive ones out there but I\'m not sure how great the expensive ones are.
FM
"The girls don\'t seem to care tonight
As long as the mood is right
No static at all, no static at all
FM--no static at all"
