Connecticut still leads the nation in speed control. According to Connecticut state law, police can pull over and ticket anyone who\'s pedaling a bicycle over 65 miles per hour.

OK, both dave and I have broken 35 on hills and I\'ve just barely gotten to 41 once on a sharp incline... If I get the right hill, has to have a steep enough grade and also be really long, and I also replace my gears with an extra small rear derailleur  set and/or an extra large front, I could get a few additional extra high gears. I\'ll probably need a teardrop helmet as well to cut down on wind resistance. hmmm... :hehehe:

Make sure you have some body armor for that rogue rock or patch of sand. ;)

I know where you can do this in CT

Rt 44 in West Hartford CT

I recall a few local cops saying they have clocked cyclists over 55MPH coming down Avon mountain

Honestly I have no idea. I haven\'t lived in that area since 1991. But I grew up around there. We used to go mountain biking right there. about half way up the "mountain" there is a few reservoirs with tons of riding trails. At least there used to be but I would imagine they are still there. Anyway after we were done we would ride home and only coasting from the midway point to the bottom you would be hauling ass. The road is LONG and steep and you have plenty of time to build up massive speed. The big issue is that the long stretch ends at a major intersection of Mountain Rd and 44. So if you don\'t get the light you would be in deep do do

got clocked @ 54mph with my buddy in his pickup behind me once. That was a mountain bike though, I dunno if I\'d wanna go that fast on skinny tires.

It really does start to get sketchy at those speeds though... those little pebbles in the road, etc

good luck !

yea, I\'d want a straightaway at the end so I didn\'t have to crash into anything. damn. I\'ll keep looking.

I wonder what the fastest speed anyone has hit on a bike.........
55, let alone 65mph is psychotic on a bicycle.....

55 was hit in a cycling movie once by drafting a semi on level land while using a high gear.

In the tour de france it is not uncommon for them to go down the mountains between 55-sometimes 70mph. Takes them like 2 hours to go up one side and 2-3 minutes to come down the other. The crashes are astronomical though. All you have is a piece of foam strapped to your head and some spandex clothing for protection. Plus you are clipped into the bike pedals so you couldn\'t even jump off if you wanted to. Whereever the bike goes, you\'re going right along with it.

Also, when they do those climbs it is not uncommon for it to be in the upper 90s in the valleys and the low 60s at the mountain tops. Think about that temperature change at the same time as you are flying down the mountian. :wah:

If I were ever on a bike going that fast, you could guarantee a nice pee stream left in my wake.....
