do i really want to manage a potbelly\'s sandwiches??

seems like good money and decent benefits, but i\'m not sure i want to go back into the restaurant biz. but, its been two months since i had a job and something is better than nothing, right???? but i know what a suckass job being a restaurant manager is... is it a step back or forward???

heed my advice, oh young un\'s of .info land, go to school and get a degree in something marketable!! i have a degree that is utterly worthless, i would have been better off learning a skilled trade than getting a bachelor\'s in \'theatrical writing\'. i spent the entire 90\'s partying my ass off and having a total blast, but now i\'m 34 with nothing to show for it but excellently rolled smokeables (when i can afford them) and some crazy-ass stories! if only there was a way to make money teaching people how to have a good time....

Dude just go back to school.

I graduated with a Psychology degree and double minor poly sci / sociology. Went in to sales. It almost killed me. My GF suggested I get in to IT as she saw my interest and I have been working in IT ever since.

Just go back and get a bachelors of Business or something that interests you or go to a trade school. It will take you a little time to get going but if you are serious about a career move / change just do it like you should have done it when you were in school.

I went to a trade school of sorts for IT. At the sametime recognized I had 0 experience. I volunteered in the IT dept. at the school to get hands on experience. I parlayed that experience in to a contract gig at a local medical group and then got a job at an ISP from there.

go for it until you find something better.  just don\'t stop sending out that resume after you start and come home after work tired.

kindm, that would be ideal. unfortunately jill simply won\'t accept that. i would LOVE to go back to school for technical writing, but i have to find a job tbefore that can even be considered. and not just any job, something that is immediately better than what i had. makes the search tough...

weekapaug, that\'s a good idea, too. unfortunately it is also something that jill is opposed to.

Well I guess the next question would be what does Jill want you to do ? I am assuming Jill is your wife or GF ?

what does Jill want you to do ?

that is funny!

JKing,  I thought you mentioned something good in the pipeline in the thread about you being "preempted" at work.  What was your previous job?

Theatrical writing, ey?  My gf is into screenwriting which I guess is pretty similar in ambition.  She just got a job editing and marketing a book (eventually it\'s going to be a trilogy) for some wealthy guy\'s son.  Pretty chill job and they buy her lunch all the time and pay her well.

Best of luck!

Run away!
The crickets and the rust-beetles scuttled among the nettles of the sagethicket. "Vamanos amigos," he whispered, and threw the busted leather flintscraw over the loose weave of the saddlecock. And they rode on in the friscalating dusklight.  --Eli Cash

yeah, i keep having good things in the pipeline. unfortunately, i keep requiring more money than they want to pay. my previous job was in the mortgage industry. so, while i could have just gone to any other title company over the summer, now that they\'re going under or struggling to survive, not so much. i do have a little something that i do (contract settlements - ie, i go places and get people to sign their mortgage paperwork), but that\'s usually only at the end of the month. i want to get out of that industry, but its tough to change careers with no qualifications other than "because i rule!", especially when i need to maintain the same salary i was making....
