Just a question, or is it generally broken up into smaller topics?

If there is I would like to know how did society benifet from this wonderful use of tax-payer money:

Almost 100 students arrested a San Degio State

Also, how does arrested 96 college-kids prevent or deture international drug cartels from doing business in the state?

[obivously I am asking loaded questions]

Drug bust nets 96 at San Diego State

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Authorities have arrested nearly 100 people and seized guns and drugs in a sting operation at San Diego State University in California, the Drug Enforcement Administration said Tuesday.

Among those arrested were 75 students, some of them working toward criminal justice or homeland security degrees. One criminal justice major was charged with possession of guns and ****, authorities said.

One student sent a mass text message offering a "sale" on ****, the DEA said in a news release.

Campus police and the DEA began their undercover operation after the death of a student from an overdose in May 2007, the news release said. A second overdose death occurred as recently as February at a fraternity house.

"DEA agents infiltrated several student drug distribution cells and more than 130 drug purchases and seizures were made" during the investigation known as Operation Sudden Fall, the news release said.

Officials arrested 75 students and 21 non-students on a variety of drug charges, including selling ****.

Authorities say they infiltrated seven campus fraternities and found that in some, most of the students were aware of drug dealing by fraternity brothers.

The news release alleges a member of the Theta Chi fraternity sent a mass text message to his "faithful customers" saying he and some others temporarily would be unable to complete orders for drug sales due to a trip to Las Vegas, Nevada.

The text message went on to discuss a "sale" on **** and gave details on reduced prices
, the news release said.

One student allegedly dealing **** was a month short of obtaining a master\'s degree in Homeland Security and worked with campus police as a student community service officer.

"This operation shows how accessible and pervasive illegal drugs continue to be on our college campuses, and how common it is for students to be selling to other students," said San Diego County District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis.

Officials say the evidence seized as part of Operation Sudden Fall includes four pounds of ****, 50 pounds of marijuana and 350 ecstasy pills. Authorities also confiscated a shotgun, three semiautomatic pistols and $60,000.

i was watching the news conference, and they said one of the students asked if this was going to hinder his chance to become a FBI agent. yeah, they sound like a bunch of wonderful, intelligent kids who will go on to do great things with their lives. :sigh:

If they hadn\'t been arreseted:

2 would have become junkies
5 would have become cops
93 would have gone on to lead normal, productive lives

98 would have become tax-paying citizens contributing to our ecomony and possibily making more tax-payers.

Now, a few cops will be able to pat themselves on the back and say they did a wonderful job protecting america\'s children.

I wasn\'t debating the intelligence of the accused, but the allocation of national resources.

Kids with a lot of ganja in college = friends helping friends to get by

Can we at least keep the **** and ganja seperated when we\'re talking about drugs that supposedly hurt people... I mean one is filth and the other is Gods gift to humanity..

It\'s a great point.  There is ample legitimate evidence of the medical benefeits of marijuana.  Meanwhile, cocain is just trash.  And although the trafficking of both drugs creates other crime that goes with it, the residual crime and violence around coke/heroin/etc. is 1000 times worse than with pot.

Sounds like this was mostly a coke ring, I am all for the bust.

Hypocrisy to those that want theirs OK\'d but the others are "bad"

The reason that drugs are associated with crime is simply, they are illegal. Take the illegality out of it and the crime goes with it. If you need an example just look at alcohol prohibition.

Saying the vices you do are better or more "classy" than any others is silly and worst of all hypocritical.

I can choose not to indulge but to look down ones nose at those who do and don\'t bother anyone is stupid. Next time someone bad mouths you or says something when your puffing / drinking / masturbating to your huge **** collection etc remember that.

Sorry this topic makes you so angry kindms.  All I can see is people pointing out some harmless, proven facts such as "cocain trafficking creates more violent crime than marijuana trafficking" and "there are proven medical benefits to marijuana usage while there are none for cocain usage."  I have no idea why this would lead you to name-calling and self-aggrandizing.  Here, take a puff of this bowl, this should help...

I don\'t know why you would read what I said as angry.

I took issue with the "Trash" comments etc. I was not refuting anything that you said. I simply offered an explanation as why crime follows drugs v. the people who chose to indulge in such behaviors.

I basically was responding to many peoples thoughts in this thread and probably should have used quotes so as not to make it seem as if it was directed at 1 person.

I guess we could argue about the benefits of ****. Form the wiki" **** is used in medicine as a topical anesthetic, even in children, specifically in eye, nose and throat surgery."
