I will be listenin to my FM transmitter on my way to the steely dan concert at the oakdale!
Holly if you do decide to get an FM transmitter I wouldn\'t suggest buying the ipod brand. I went through 2 of them and they were terrible.
I have the Belkin version now, the one that charges while it transmits (but not the one that has a holder as well- that doesn;t fit in my car, it interferes with the shifter).... and it works much better. Not perfect, but a huge inmprovement. The thing is they aren\'t allowed to make them transmit strongly enough to completely eliminate static. Oh well.
If you have a tape player in your car (unlikely)... that works great with teh ipods.
And yeah... there\'s no reason you have to store your audio in low quality files on the ipod. You\'re better off storing fewer songs at higher quality. IMO...
The transmitter I bought works great (after I finally figured out how to fully plug it in!) -- I had some problems in NYC before the Knitting Factory, but it was just because I was too lazy to try & find a clear radio station. I\'m sure you\'ll get a chance to check it out in the 4Runner in Utica tomorrow... see ya there!

Do you ever offer to drive TKA\'s old bones to shows?
.... Yes, but he\'s never let me -- dunno why :idunno: I don\'t mind, really, though. I\'m happy to not have to drive, especially in the cold rain & snow!

You\'ve obviously never been in a car with her! :duck:

The Belkin transmitter seems to work on pretty much any station- regardless of how clear the station is.
I\'ve read reviews that say Kensington makes the best FM transmitter. Also, a friend raves about his iCup (

Also, what the heck do you people do to your iPods that they break so frequently. I\'m starting to think that those things are invinsible. I\'ve had mine 2+ years, take it everywhere, use it constantly, exercise with it, drop it, wear it in the shower, microwave it... and I\'ve never had any problems.
I agree... the first ipod I had broke (first generation) broke... but I am fairly certain it was given to me on the way to being broken. (Hence the reason for giving it away.)
I have had the ipod I have now for quite a while and have had no problems with it. I have dropped it, run with it, etc. plenty of times.
I think if you take reasonable care of them (I don\'t understand why anyone doesn\'t, they\'re really
**** expensive!) they will be fine.
i just bought an 80gig ipod video. the thing is great. first off, i encode all mp3s at 320 kbps average (VBR) and although i could hear a difference if i A/B them with 16/44.1 aiffs or wavs, the difference is so subtle that i dont put on my ipod and say "geez, this doesn\'t sound so great." 128kbps on the other hand sounds like trash.
i just bought the thing, so i\'m still importing. i\'ve got about 7 days worth of music totalling only 15 gigs or so of the 80 i\'ve got available. so i don\'t think i\'m going to run out of space even though i like higher quality compression.
as for fm transmitters, i\'ll ONLY ONLY ONLY use one in my dad\'s 87 corolla which doesn\'t even have a tape deck. get a tape adapter or use an aux input if available.
i also like the whole video thing. to have every episode of the office at my fingertips makes for a nicer commute to work.
i\'ll throw out some more praise for the belikin fm transmitters. my truck has an aux input, but i got one for lisa for her mini and her car.. it works really well, and i got the thing for a penny during that buy.com thing a while back..
still, nothing beats having an aux input.
i\'m on my second ipod (had an original 10gb forever; 60gb video now). my mp3 drive is currently at about 140gb, so it\'ll be a while before i\'m able to get *everything* onto an ipod.
i have been kicking around the idea of picking up a nano though. the whole
Nike + thing had me quite intrigued..
