There has been a very large cat and dog food recall due to cats getting kidney failure, with some of the animals dying.

Here is a link to an article with pertinent information:
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/LAC.20070317.PETFOOD17/TPStory/TPInternational/America/

And here is the link to the company\'s website. Under "product information: you can click to get the lists of all of the brands/types which are being recalled:

Thats a lot of products needing recall. I will have to forward this information onto my mother unless if she already knows.

Yeah that company makes a ton of brand of food. I figured m cat would be all set since I feed him Nutro All Natural Cat Food... but that company makes that as well. Luckily, its just the wet food... my cat only eats dry food.

my dog, although I never see it eat, has access to both wet and dry food. I should take a better look at some of those products.

Thanks for posting this!  I don\'t feed my dog any of the products listed, but for the record I used to feed him Iams at the recommendation of our vet.  Despite eating alot, he always looked thin.  I switched to Beneful, and I noticed a difference in his weight and coat within a week.  I also switched vets.
I have heard rumors that the makers of Iams pay vets to recommend it.  Anyone else heard this?

Iams is now owned by Purina, and therefore can mo longer be trusted.

I switched from Iams to Innova cat food made by Natura a couple of years ago. Boots used to throw up on average 3-4 times per week. Since switching it\'s down to 1-2 times per month. It\'s a little pricey, but worth every penny!!!

Thanks for the info....
All our boys eat Hill\'s brand food (either Science Diet or Prescription Diet)

All dry food (except Tyson gets a little wet mixed in)

TJ & Bernie eat Science Diet Indoor Cat
Kobe eats Hill\'s Prescription Diet: Feline M/D (because of his weight)

...and up until about 3 weeks ago, Tyson ate Science Diet Adult Large Breed...

He is now eating Royal Canin Veterinary Diet: Potato and Venison Formula Large Breed (yummy!!)
per our vet & now his dermatologist secondary to his ongoing skin issues (we are in the process of allergy testing him...lots of fun!!)

my girlfriends shepard is the same way... always itching. she gets some specialty stuff for the two puppies but hasn\'t found out why she\'s itching. we figure it\'s just so dry in the winter time around here, i get dry skin i can imagine the same thing happens to the dogs. but a guess at certain point it ends up be a habit and the shepard just does it out of impulse

Tyson\'s food sounds good. Sadie eats Science Diet large breed but Tyson\'s food sounds a lot more appealing.

Sounds like .info\'s pet owners (ownees?) are good caretakers.

If dry skin and itching is a problem, be sure to have their thyroids checked.
A symptom of a thyroid condition is dry skin.  Combine it with an allergy, and you\'ve got one itchy pooch. (heh, that sounds like something else)
I\'ve got large shepard mix who was constantly dry and itching (to point of drawing blood)  and we took him back for test after test.
A combination of Thyroxine (for the thyroid) and Cephalexin (allergies) has really worked well.  He\'s still a little dry, but the itching has stopped.
Dr. Heather Rife @ East Haven Veterinary Associates is the one who finally solved it.
They do good work. My Murph is doing well 9 yrs. which is old for a 100+ lb\'er.

thanks, i\'ll have to let me girl know. she brought the shepard to the vet yesterday and was like if she gets anise if you are going to clip her nails call me in and i\'ll calm her down. next thing she heard was her dog crying and yelping they bring her out and she\'s got a muzzle on and shaking. needless to say my girlfriend wasn\'t too happy.
