thanks matt.
I like the part about renewable energy.
Unfortunately we are a very long way from meeting our energy needs without fossil fuels.
World oil supply is peaking and demand is increasing and there is a HUGE gap between the energy we are using and what we have currently in renewables/what we can realistically get going in the near future. Not to even mention the whole green house gas emission issue.
Hopefully capitalism will continue to work and market forces will drive the global energy economy in the right direction. But capitalism is dependent on growth and without sufficient energy there can not be growth and the entire system will collapse. In which case we are pretty much screwed and there is going to be a lot more hunger and war than there is now. But I am hopeful that things will all work out. If not, it was fun while it lasted.
Good energy policy will certainly help if the politicians ever get their
**** together but if your hoping they are gonna just fix this problem for us and make everything all better with a few pieces of legislation...it ain\'t gonna happen.
We basically need a complete paradigm shift and retooling and rewiring of the entire industrialized world (equal or greater than the changes that took place during the industrial revolution) if humans are going to survive with any kind of prosperity and sustainability. Awareness of our predicament is the first step though and songs like this can only help that cause. So again, thanks.
