I do not think it petered out as far as creativity at ALL. If anything it seems like Matt was ready to REALLY take it out there and Tim decided to real it in and begin restating the theme. That is like no other Chase you can show me, and while that doesn\'t automatically make it better, this version is what makes it better. I am so excited to see them open up(albeit breifly) a song that basically is the same no matter WHAT. The way Tim and Matt dance around the main theme without exactly stating it before the spacey section is very tight. Ron and Ad were in each others heads as far as the lowend goes...keep listening Leith, you\'ll get it.

It is like no other Chase yes it really is and yes I thought Matt was about to "recharge" the jam as it was steadily coming to a standstill and yes I am stoked they are looking at stretching out a song that is pretty standard.
However, I like the structure of The Chase. I find it\'s sameness comfortable and look forward to certain "power pieces" where Tim shines in this song. Kind of like how when Trey really hits a composed part of a Phish song?
So for me a Best Ever version would be like the one from 8/30/07 Electric Co.
As I did post though I think it was a nice try as it seemed totally spontaneous and if they can figure out how to insert a jam like this into The Chase I am all for it.

It is the songs known for their jams that really stick in my mind if the composed section is nailed. The pieces that are usually played the same stick out though, when they have a jam thrown in. I really think this was a perfectly executed change and really elevated this Chase, well abouve any other version...no matter how well the composed sections might be in others. Not to mention that the rest of the song(including the transitions into and out of this "new jam section"), seems like it was letter perfect to me.

Yeah well like they say, To each his own. We can totally agree though that this is a very unique version of The Chase and can only lead to more experimentation with this song.
Oh and Ron and Adrian are locked in as you said though I thought Adrian kind of rushed it a bit to get back to the main Chase theme. Overall though it is pretty neat no matter how you look at it.

Oh yeah that Chase is better to me than the one we are discussing. I totally forgot about that one as it took me about halfway through that song to get over my grumpiness that they were even playing it again (after Toad\'s) after another freakin\' HoneyButter and a Hot for Teacher :vomit:.
I must have blanked it out. It is stellar though and WALSH was not there so I am sure that is why he posted that there is no debate about the one he just witnessed.

Easy Leith, I have heard said Chase. Tim and the band always throw little teases into songs, that doesn\'t surprise me anymore. Just because I wasn\'t at a show, means nothing. I am very critical when it comes to judging music, especially if I was there. If anything, versions of songs for show I was at get even more of a relisten.
