hhGreat thread Bri.....
This is tough to categorize, but I will give it my best shot......please note the mumbo jumbo style of my post. I am trying to do a hundred things since getting home from work in order to get out to Richters tonight.....
Lets start with the Least Valuable Player: BAR.
- BAR sucks for a Solo Timmy show for so many reasons, here are a couple. First off, and Tim will testify to this one, that more often than not, the "non-Timmy-Tourers", are lethargic and could give two
**** if Jimi Hendrix himself was reincarnated and playing in the corner. This drastically effects Tim\'s playing. Also, the setup is rediculously stupid for a live music event. Maybe if it was just a musician playing mood music that little corner would be nice, but Timmy Tour is all about crowd participation and getting the
**** down, a difficult thing to do at BAR. So poop on BAR as far as a Timmy Tour venue goes
Next we have the highly disputed "Pound For Pound Best Timmy Tour Venue To Date" - Sidebar
- Sidebar has good food, a great drink selection, and 2 potential locations where Tim might be setting up and playing. The front where the door is, and the back room where the bathrooms are. The front is good, because you can be outside and still feel the show. However, it is very cramped and tough to really get into the show. Also, there has never in TT history, been a show at a bar that has had fire juggling and a latenight set where Tim played well after the bar was closed.
Now we will come to the original Timmy Tour venue - 232 Wooster St.
This is arguably the best venue to some, and it will always hold a special place in my heart as 232 is where this all started and it was always on Wednesday nights. Thus creating Timmy Tour and leading way to the Black Thursday. The Wednesday nights at 232 are extremely special and there were many a great musical moment....
So with all that being said, I would have to say that RICHTERS is the all around best Timmy Tour venue going. (Yeah I have kind of changed my tune from Sidebar).
- First off, there by the grace of God, stands Trish the Dish.
Secondly Richters is the oldest bar in New Haven and has never had (and probably never will) host live music of any kind. When you go to a Timmy show at Richters you are part of New Haven history.
Also, Halfyards of beers.
And, the only TT location where you are 99% guaranteed to get a Freddiewah sighting
Another reason is that Richters shows are on Wednesday nights. The ONLY official night of Timmy Tour.
Yet another reason would be the fact that (and this is probably why I have to reneg and say Richters is the best), Tim only busts the Alesis synth out at Richters shows....
The other venues. Porters, Sullys, TKA do not meet the minimum shows required to qualify for consideration in my opinion.
