I\'m sure there is a group of nerds out there who have already done this, but I will propose this idea here anyway:

How cool would it be to instead of playing someone else at a video game (Halo, or whatever) you write a program that plays their program.

I think that the input of commands to the game could be simple enough - a GPIB card or something to send the electrical signals to the controller.

The hard part would be inputting the video game to the playing program.

My guess would be that either the raw data stream (pre-presentation) from the game\'s "engine" is routed directly to the playing clients, or the clients tap into the video ouput and "Watch" it.

Am I crazy, or does this sound like fun to anyone else?

HUH ?

Are you describing NO human interaction and just watching the game being played by someone else ? ie. a Bot ?

Or are you talking about being able to watch 2 or more people compete against one an another in game ?

Both have been done and are almost universal ideas in gaming depending on what type of game etc. (like WoW bots are a big deal, it is essentially the computer playing your character for you, you tell it what type of behaviors etc and off it goes. usually to offset the "grind" of fighting and collecting $$$)

The auditor or referee type view is fairly common in first person shooter type so fgames. Many people can log in to the game to watch the action. They just do not have any in game characters, they simply can manipulate the camera angles etc to watch what is going on and usually have voice chat as well.

Some codes are more boring than others. Usually its more of an exercise in frustration than boredom.

Yeah you\'re probably right. I guess I should have used the word tedious instead of boring.

Tecmo Super Bowl for NES has a "coach" mode where two humans just call the plays and then watch the computer play itself.  It is still the worst gameplay mode in the history of gaming.
