So I just joined Netflix and I am looking for some suggestions. I am always hearing "you have to see such-and-such" but I never seem to remember the titles.

So I would love to hear some suggestions from you guys.

I am not very into action movies or dumb comedy.

Thanks!

The Life Of David Gale (<--unknown and Phenomenal)

If you haven\'t seen any of these you must asap. If you\'ve seen them all, hoooraaay!
The crickets and the rust-beetles scuttled among the nettles of the sagethicket. "Vamanos amigos," he whispered, and threw the busted leather flintscraw over the loose weave of the saddlecock. And they rode on in the friscalating dusklight.  --Eli Cash

Wasn\'t a big fan of David Gale.

Black Snake Moan (if you don\'t mind seeing Cristina Ricci emaciated and half naked)  really good movie though, Sam L learned to play blues guitar for the role.

I have recently become a big fan of early Clint Eastwood movies.  Palehorse is really good, as is The Outlaw Josey Wales, it may be a guy thing though, he\'s just such a badass.  So is Fistful of Dollars (if you can get past the kinda weird audio dubbing) (this movie is where the term spaghetti western was originated the japanese would call italian westerns macaroni westerns to differentiate between italian and american westerns)  I have yet to see The Good the Bad and the Ugly, but it\'s the next must see on my list, it\'s supposed to be incredible.

I will return later with more suggestions, I\'m a bit of a movie buff.  I\'ll prob have a list for ya.

edit: it\'s Pale Rider, not Palehorse

Awesome, thanks!

And I think Christina Ricci is pretty attractive; I\'m fine with the nakedness.

Yeah so was I.  It\'s alittle weird to see her so skinny though.  I always kinda liked the fact that she was a full figured girl.  Don\'t get me wrong she\'s still hot.

ok I went through my DVD collection and made a list:

Dark City
Jesus\' Son*
The Boondock Saints
Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai*
Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
Donnie Darko*
25th Hour
Death to Smoochy*
The Salton Sea**
Big Fish
Spun
Bringing Out the Dead*
early Coen Bro. flicks: Barton Fink, The Hudsucker Proxy, The Man Who Wasn\'t There (not an early one but often over looked.)
Unforgiven (to add to my Eastwood list)

The ones with stars I\'d highly recomend.  I left out some that may be obvious (ie Fight Club, Lebowski, Fargo, 12 Monkeys ect)  But this is a small list of some of my favorite movies.  I\'m sure I could come up with more (and may) but this\'ll give ya something to work with.  (I linked them to imdb so you can check out plot synopsis if you want.)  What can I say I like getting people into good flicks.

Thanks so much. There are a bunch in your list that I haven\'t seen. I\'m excited about this Netflix business. I never really got into television or movies and I have a bit of catching up to do.

This is England - best movie I\'ve seen in decades.  it\'s a very talented writer/ director, telling a very personal story.  Fantastic raggae soundtrack.

check out a few clips:
